None of his protegees have come remotely close to what the great Scot managed in his trophy-laden career.
Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley are the latest former Fergie apprentices to see their first permanent jobs in English management end with the axe.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, dangling by a thread at Leicester, is set to join them.
Carrick, 43, showed a lot of early promise — taking Boro to the play-offs in his first full season in 2022-23 after a fourth-placed finish — but lost to Coventry in the semi-finals.
He failed to make the end-of-term Championship lottery in the following two campaigns — and paid for it with Wednesday's sacking.
The Teessiders announced Carrick's exit in a brief 61-word statement.
It was in stark contrast to the relative love letter Watford released to tell the world they had binned Cleverley.
Carrick's former midfield partner, 35, finished his only season as a boss in 14th — not enough to convince the Hornets he deserved a second campaign.

Sporting director Gian Luca Nani wrote: 'It has been a privilege to work closely with Tom, to understand how he sees the game and his enthusiasm.
'He deserves to be recognised for this and I'm sure he will have a bright future in the game.'

Van Nistelrooy, 48, is still waiting to learn his fate but it would be a surprise at this point if he was not dismissed after taking Leicester down.
The Dutchman was one of the greatest goalscorers the Premier League has ever seen after crashing in 150 goals in 219 Red Devils games between 2001 and 2006.
So there was a huge irony when his Foxes side failed to net for EIGHT consecutive Prem matches — all of them defeats — between February and April.

Ex-West Bromwich Albion defender Martin Albrechtsen, who played for Frank at Brondby, insists pre-season training under his compatriot was a far cry from what he experienced during his time in the Premier League. He explained: "I've had a taste of both worlds, the totally crazy pre-season regimes and also managers that think differently. "With Thomas, his coaches and physios organise the sessions but he's mindful of the bigger picture, it's not just about running 20km, there was a clear plan and he knew how to schedule things. "He thought about recovery and that if we're training tomorrow, we don't want injuries. His mindset was not about short-term gain and smashing people to their absolute limit, it was more about improving our conditioning and sharpness." Former Denmark international Albrechtsen, who retired last summer, spent four years at The Hawthorns between 2004 and 2008 and his recollections of pre-season still haunt him to this very day. The 45-year-old continued: "Life under Gary Megson was a bit special. We had this coach that would make us run in this park in Sutton Coldfield, it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my career. I lost around 5kg, I wasn't very big back then anyway so it was a real culture shock. "I don't know any player that would enjoy running in a forest for two hours non-stop, they thought we were in good shape but we were not ready to play football because our bodies were so fatigued. Thomas likes to involve the ball a lot, there were still interval runs but you were getting a feel for the ball which goes a long way." Daniel Levy recently declared Frank's ability to develop young talent speaks for itself. But now, he'll also be dealing with big-name characters at Spurs and Albrechtsen recalls he was notably "soft" throughout his time at Brondby. He continued: "I think he was maybe just a bit too soft. We were a group of older players that were used to a harder, tougher mentality so we were missing that direct, rougher managerial approach at times. That said, it was around 10 years ago now and I'd expect he's changed given his success." Ange Postecoglou was unable to appease Levy despite ending Spurs' 17-year wait for silverware and if you thought the circumstances surrounding the Aussie's exit were bizarre, Frank can go one better. He resigned as Brondby boss in 2016 after it emerged the club's chairman, Jan Bech Andersen, had been scrutinising Frank via an anonymous profile on a fans' forum site. Albrechtsen revealed: "Yes, it's true. It was a tough few years with financial struggles and we were nearly relegated so we were used to noise and stories, in a way, it just felt like another day at the office! "Still, it was really strange but perhaps it was a good thing because we weren't performing well and if we carried on, Thomas may have been sacked."

Manchester United are determined to push through a number of high-profile sales this summer to bolster Ruben Amorim's spending power but the process is already proving complex for the Old Trafford hierarchy Jadon Sancho's salary is once again complicating his Manchester United exit. Italian champions Napoli and Juventus are both courting the 25-year-old winger but currently, would only be willing to pursue a loan that would enable them to share a percentage of his wages, worth £250,000 per week plus bonuses, with United. The Red Devils are adamant another loan is not feasible and are pushing for a sale after Chelsea paid a £5million penalty clause to send the England international back to Old Trafford. It's understood Sancho is open to a new experience in Serie A having previously held discussions with Juventus last summer before a deal collapsed over financials. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford faces being left in limbo as Barcelona are working to finalise the arrival of Athletic Club attacker Nico Williams. Rashford - valued at £40m - is willing to return to United training next month, if suitable offers for his services fail to materialise. It's been well documented that United must sell-to-buy following the £62.5m arrival of Matheus Cunha but to date, there has been little progress regarding departures.
