Ruben Amorim growing impatient and wants Man Utd transfers completed urgently

Man Utd's only signing of the summer so far is Matheus Cunha, with boss Ruben Amorim wanting new arrivals on board in time for the summer tour of the US in four weeks' time Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim wants his new signings on board for the club's pre-season tour of the USA in four weeks' time. United have been slow to recruit this summer, with £62.5million winger Matheus Cunha from Wolves their only signing so far, despite the need for a radical overhaul of Amorim's squad. Targets for United include Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike and Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, who played under Amorim there. ‌ Amorim is impatient for the new signings to be on the plane for United's three-game tour of the States, which sees them face West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier Leahue Summer Series. ‌ The United boss sees the tour as the ideal environment in which new signings can fully integrate with the squad, as well as enabling them to adapt to the team's system, so they can hit the ground running when the new season starts. Amorim also wants United to offload players he does not want as quickly as possible, chiefly Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. None feature in Amorim's future plans and must be sold to help raise funds to reinvest in new signings. But United are finding it difficult to attract buyers for their outcasts, primarily because of the high wage demands of the players concerned, as well as their poor form last season, which has left clubs unwilling to meet their market valuations. Rashford wants a move to Barcelona, but there has been little progress on that front, while Napoli have expressed interest in Sancho and Garnacho, but want to pay significantly less that United are demanding. The transfer window opened from June 1 to 10, to allow teams to recruit in time for the Club World Cup, and reopened on Monday, closing on September 1. ‌ Despite United enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign last season, finishing in 15 th place, Bruno Fernandes has been shortlisted for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award. Fernandes is up against Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Alexis MacAllister, as well as Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Chelsea forward Cole Palmer. United skipper Fernandes scored eight goals in 36 league appearances last season and 19 in all competitions. The award will be presented at a ceremony in Manchester on August 19. The last time a United player won the accolade was Wayne Rooney in 2010, with Manchester City and England forward Phil Foden the current holder.

Khairy excited to play alongside Man Utd legend

KUALA LUMPUR: Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov, and ex-Chelsea captain John Terry will feature in the Zurich Liga 7x7 All Stars festival at KLFA Stadium on July 19. The tournament will feature four teams: Team Wizards, Team Bangsa Bola, Team Harimau and Team Zurich. Former sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also the manager of Team Wizards, relishes the opportunity to play alongside Giggs, the captain of their side. "My team is well balanced. We've got Kogileswaran Raj, Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Tengku Fahad Mua'adzam Shah, Hairul Azreen, and of course, me," said Khairy, who is a Man Utd fan. "But the X-factor in our team is Giggs. I mean, Terry has never been the same ever since he slipped during the penalty kick (in 2008 Champions League final against Man Utd), so he's going to slip all over again." Khairy quipped Giggs had personally requested to join his team after the latter's recent trip to Malaysia to promote the Man Utd vs Asean All-Stars match last month. "When Giggs was here recently, he asked me if he could be part of my team. I said okay, no problem. We were supposed to have Paul Scholes, but he couldn't come, so we managed to get Giggs instead," he said. Khairy couldn't resist taking a jibe at Team Bangsa Bola who are captained by Terry and managed by banker Tan Sri Nazir Razak. "Well, it's Terry and then, you know, it's Nazir. I mean, a banker doesn't know much about football, right?" he said. "Tan Sri Tony Fernandes' team (Harimau) will be competitive because he's a competitive person, having Safee Sali as the captain. "There's also Team Zurich led by Junior Cho, featuring Berbatov." Meanwhile Safee, whose Team Harimau feature Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Khyril Muhymeen, K. Gurusamy, and Adam Sinclair, said playing with legends like Terry and Giggs is a proud moment for local football. "To be part of something alongside Terry and Giggs is not ordinary, it's a benchmark for the next generation," he said.

A club source said: 'Amorim is stamping his authority on the club. It was hard arriving mid-season but he now has the opportunity to shape the team in his image. And he's wasting no time. 'He only wants players who would die for the shirt and are on board with his ideas. 'He also wants a smaller squad to create an intimate team bond so that everyone gets enough game time to be at peak fitness when called upon. He doesn't want any bad apples or distractions.' The Serie A champions have also expressed an interest in Sancho, whose future is in limbo after Chelsea declined to sign the on-loan winger for £25m and opted to pay a £5m penalty to send him back to Old Trafford. Prem rivals Newcastle are said to be eyeing Rashford after Aston Villa did not follow up on his loan spell while Antony had a temporary spell in the second half of last season at Real Betis in Spain.

Jack Grealish is latest England star caught in football's Neverland as spiralling wages syndrome claims first victims

Led by Grealish is currently trying to plot a way out of Effectively shoved out of his pushchair by boss Pep Guardiola and told to find somewhere else to live. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL At present, one of England's most naturally gifted footballers is caught in Neverland. Italian champions To be fair, it doesn't take a genius to work out that Grealish is a decent player, just down on his luck and caught in a tricky situation with a boss who doesn't recognise his talents. Yet the problem is the approximate £270,000-per-week wages that he trousers as an accessory to the £100million he commanded when signing from Most read in Football 6 BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Back then the British record transfer fee looked to be the catalyst for one of the last great football mavericks to ascend new heights and become a superstar with the character to match. It's now all just fizzling out in a sad demise. Jack Grealish has gone from eye-catching showman and heartthrob to miserable bench warmer - and I know who's to blame Guardiola can claim how much he loves 'Jack' all he likes. But there is only one real love for top-level players — and that is to see their names on the team sheet each week. One minute off the bench in the last game of the season sums it up for the Brummie bad lad everyone adores. It's time to go. But with two years left on his contract, that's roughly £28m in his bin. We hear all that old guff about it's not about money, it's about football, but why should Grealish pay the price for the fact that Guardiola sold him a dream four years ago but couldn't make it come true? So now there is an impasse, and it's not the first time it's happened in the blue part of Manchester. City signed Wayne Bridge from Picking up around £60,000 a week back then was a decent whack for a player, though not in Grealish's league, even accounting for inflation. The move went t**s up and for the next four years full-back Bridge turned up for work, trained and did his bit but was sent on loan to He played barely 40 games for City overall but took his full pay cheque every month. It cost the club around £13m in pay — or just over £3m a game. Numbers associated with top footballers since then have gone fully cosmic. Winger Sterling was signed by Chelsea's new owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in 2022. Ironically, from Manchester City. He wasn't going to turn down the £300,000 a week being thrust in his hands by the naive Americans. 6 Raheem Sterling struggled on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea Credit: Shutterstock Editorial Sterling is now a lost soul. He spent last season sitting on the bench on loan at Arsenal. He is back now and as part of the infamous 'bomb squad' of Z-listers under coach But those wages will now just get in the way. For another two years. Good luck finding a Premier League club willing to shell out £15m a year for a forward who scored one goal last season. Ditto for striker Rashford, who will soon report back to And for his Red Devils club-mate Sancho — a Champions League finalist in 2024 who Chelsea paid £5m to get off their hands after a year on loan with them. If no compromises can be found, that's four full-blown England internationals stuck in Limboland come the start of the Premier League season on August 16. They'll be able to pay their mortgages — but what a waste for the game as a whole. LAK OF LOGIC Which doesn't really make sense. The Serbian told BBC Radio Solent that some of the baffling decisions that went against his team last winter robbed them of eight points. He said: 'I'm not saying we would stay in the league, but we would have had a much more competitive run and Russell would definitely still be leading the team.' But if the decisions by VAR were the issue, then it can't have been the fault of Martin. So why didn't Southampton's top man recognise that and stick by his coach? Saints have had four different full-time managers since 2022. Just saying . . . 6 Russell Martin was axed by Southampton but is Ranges' new boss Credit: PA EMPTY THREAT THE Club World Cup is at least trying new things. Introducing individual player walk-ons and scrubbing out-of-date traditions, such as crowds in stadiums, are notable innovations. But best of all is the 'most threatening player' caption which appeared in the corner of my TV screen during I assume it's meant in terms of attacking players putting pressure on the opposition goal. Of which there wasn't much in this poor excuse for a game. However, it did make me wonder what fun we could have had with such an analytic tool back in the days of Roy Keane and Duncan Ferguson. STICKIN' BOOT IN THE new Premier League fixtures are out, yet two of its biggest teams are still playing competitive games — at the Club World Cup. And when next season finishes we'll roll straight into a World Cup, having seen nine Prem teams compete in expanded European competitions throughout the winter. It's final, depressing proof that football is 24/7, 365 days a year and now the backdrop to everyday life, every day.
