Demi Moore showcases age-defying figure after detailing how she 'tortured' her body at the height of her fame

Daily Mail24-04-2025

Demi Moore looked as youthful as ever when she was seen emerging in New York City on Wednesday.
The 62-year-old star of The Substance — who said it 'would be nice' to have another shot at an Oscar at the Time100 summit the same day — looked chic and vivacious in a gray sport coat and matching dress as she was mobbed by excited fans in Manhattan.
She was out with her adorable Chihuahua Pilaf just a day after People declared her its Most Beautiful Person with the cover of its annual issue.
In her cover story, Demi admitted that, when she was at the height of her fame and box-office profitability, she would 'torture' herself with extreme diet's and back-breaking workouts in hopes of maintaining her perfect, svelte figure.
Although she had outgrown much of that unhealthy obsession with her appearance, the ex-wife of Bruce Willis still looked stunning and vital.
She cut a chic figure in her monochrome ensemble, which featured a classic three-button design with the top button rolled under her lapel.
She wore the jacket over a long gray dress that reached down to her ankles but featured a high slit to showcase her fit legs.
She added a burst of color to the look with the lining of her skirt, which featured red, white and blue stripes, and she added a cool touch with red-tinted sunglasses.
Demi wore her long raven locks styled pin straight and parted down the middle, and she added a sweet touch with her minuscule dog Pilaf, who panted with his tiny tongue out while cradled like a baby in a black sling around the actress' torso.
She completed her ensemble with pointy-toed black pumps and an Apple Watch with a gray band to match her outfit.
At the Time100 summit, Demi had removed her jacket to reveal a striking sleeveless dress, as well as an unusual sash draped from one shoulder that featured the lapels and collar of a suit jacket for an intriguing touch.
While speaking to People for it's May 5 issue, Demi admitted that she did 'crazy things [with] diet and exercise' to maintain her slim frame when she was starring in films in the mid-1990s. She added that she would go 'biking from Malibu and going all the way to Paramount,' a ride that she recalled being 'about 26 miles' in total.
'All because I had placed so much value on what my outsides looked like,' she mused.
But today she has a healthier focus on her 'overall health and well-being,' rather than on superficial appearances.
'It's much more about longevity and quality of life. And I think I've evolved into greater gentility towards myself,' she said.
At the height of her career, Demi had to go through wild exercise and diet swings for her projects.
After having to show off her most chiseled look in 1996's Striptease, in which she played a fired FBI secretary who turns to stripping to make ends meet, she then had to reverse course and bulk up to play a woman undergoing special operations training in Ridley Scott's G.I. Jane.
Demi said the training regimen she went through for the latter film made her feel 'so harsh' and 'antagonistic' toward her body.
' I was really just punishing myself,' she admitted. 'And in this desire to dominate it versus now, I have a much more kind of intuitive, relaxed, trusting relationship with my body.'
After production ended on G.I. Jane, the actress had an epiphany.
Though she was 'bigger' and more 'muscular' than ever before after months of intense exercise, she didn't want to 'wear that' body any more, even though she had had an 'incredible experience' making the film.'
Instead, she realized, 'I wanted to just have that within me. And I think I was exhausted from putting [my body] through so much over such a long period of time.'
From then on she 'really let go,' and stopped obsession over what she ate.
Demi said she 'had a moment of surrender where I just let go and really understood what it meant to be in acceptance of my body as it is, even though it's not the body I wanted.'
The Disclosure actress wasn't even sure what her 'natural size' was at that point, as so much had changed with three rapid-fire pregnancies and her intense diets and workouts.
'So I just let go,' she said.

How to stream Sleeper Cell TV series that left viewers 'in state of suspense'

It's been 20 years since the release of the TV series Sleeper Cell, a thriller that lasted two seasons and was labelled 'unsettling'. Two decades later, the US Customs and Border Protection agency has claimed that the threat of sleeper cells in America has 'never been higher', after the US launched strikes on nuclear sites in Iran. Earlier this month, Israel launched strikes on nuclear and military sites in Iran, with Iran retaliating by sending missiles into Israel. Civilians have been killed and injured in both countries. The Telegraph reported that Iran sent a message to President Donald Trump threatening to activate sleeper cells in America if the country is attacked. A 'sleeper cell' is the name given to a spy or operative who is placed in a country and can be called to action at short notice. Back in 2005, 'provocative' thriller Sleeper Cell took viewers inside how the terrorist groups work, as well as exploring the representations of Islam. The thriller series followed American undercover FBI agent Darwyn Al-Sayeed (Michael Ealy), a proud Muslim man tasked to infiltrate a terrorist sleeper cell planning to attack Los Angeles. The cell is run by Arab extremist Faris al-Farik (Oded Fehr), who has disguised himself as a Jewish man. The second season, released in 2006, saw Dawryn attempt to take down a new cell after the events of the first season while also grappling with working with a new handler, Special Agent Warren Russell (Jay R. Ferguson). Sleeper Cell was nominated for an Emmy Award for outstanding miniseries, but did not run for more than two seasons. For those who didn't tune in the first time around, or just want to refresh their memories, log onto Amazon Prime Video, where you can rent and buy seasons one and two. Alternatively, you can also rent and buy both seasons of Sleeper Cell from Apple TV Plus. Season one currently holds a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: 'Sleeper Cell approaches its provocative high-concept with a respectful exploration of religious extremism, but the series works better as a gritty thrill-ride than the nuanced drama it aspires to be.' 'Despite the mostly awful dialogue, Sleeper Cell succeeds on the strength of its plot. You're kept in a constant state of suspense as you watch various aspects of the plan taking shape,' The New Yorker said in their review. Baltimore Sun said: 'If one is looking for a TV drama that earnestly tries to reflect and speak to our lives and times, it would be hard to do better than Sleeper Cell.' The Wall Street Journal added: 'Its strains and balancing efforts aside, it is soon obvious that there's much in this story about the day-to-day planning and training for a terror strike that should enthrall — and chill — audiences.' 'It's to the writers' credit that they set out to engage viewers' brains as well as their adrenal glands,' Empire summarised. After appearing on the show, Ealy went on to land roles in The Good Wife, Californication, and Westworld. He also landed big screen roles in Think Like a Man, The Intruder, and The Perfect Guy, among others. Speaking to Ebony Magazine in 2015, the actor, 51, opened up and POC representation on screen and how the world of TV is changing. More Trending 'I think we're right on track,' he said. 'I don't think we've arrived at the destination. But things are definitely getting better. 'There was a long time where the Asian character couldn't be anything but a doctor. That has changed. You still have to deal with Middle Eastern characters not being terrorists all the time. And we're trying to get away from that. 'So we're starting to see that open up with different shows. And that, to me, is going to make Hollywood and this TV world a much more diverse place.' EastEnders actress Laila Morse has famous film star brother

Also known as 'Big Mo', she has been portrayed by actress Laila Morse in the programme, as well as in the spin-offs Slaters in Detention and Pat and Mo. She was introduced in 2000 as the matriarch of the Slater family and appeared for 16 years before departing initially. It wasn't long before she returned, though, as she was reintroduced in 2018 before being written out again in 2021. However, after a stint of a few episodes in 2022, she was permanently brought back in 2024, alongside great-grandson Freddie (played by Bobby Brazier). With Mo having been a presence on EastEnders for so long, many fans might be aware her actress Laila Morse has a very famous film star for a brother. EastEnders actress Laila Morse has a very famous film star brother Laila's younger brother is Gary Oldman, who won the Oscar for Best Actor back in 2018 for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Gary was also recently knighted as part of the King's Birthday Honours. Some might not be aware that Laila's break into acting is in part thanks to Gary, as he cast her in his 1997 film Nil by Mouth. This was Laila's first foray into acting at the age of 51, and Gary's debut as a filmmaker. She featured alongside Ray Winstone, Kathy Burke and Charlie Creed-Miles. Laila's performance as the character of Janet won her the award of 'Most Promising Newcomer in any Category' at the British Independent Film Awards. Another interesting fact is the link between Gary and the stage name 'Laila Morse', as the actress's real name is Maureen Oldman. When Gary was in a relationship with Isabella Rossellini, she suggested to Maureen to use 'Laila Morse' as a stage name. It is an anagram of 'mia sorella', which translates from Italian as 'my sister'. EastEnders fans love that Laila Morse and Gary Oldman are related The unique bit of trivia surrounding Laila and Gary being siblings always provides a lot of interest to EastEnders fans. In a recent post on the EastEnders Reddit page, one person shared images of the two side-by-side saying: "Mo and Gary Oldman being siblings with [sic] never not be funny too me." One person joked in response: "One is the greatest actor of our generation who has inspired millions and is beloved by all. The other is Gary Oldman." Another shared: "I always forget. Some people have expressed hope that Gary might make a brief appearance in EastEnders one day due to the link. Another replied: "It would be so elite, honestly I would love him to appear just for one episode." A third concurred, writing: "It would be awesome if he turned up on the square as Mo's long lost brother."
