Independent27-03-2025

An Arizona Yoga teacher disappeared after a blind date, and police later found his body in a commercial area of Phoenix.
Marcus Freiberger, 45, was found deceased at a rock quarry near 15th Avenue and Broadway Road on March 19. He'd been missing for nearly a month, according to The Arizona Republic.
He had last been seen at a city parking garage waiting for a blind date on February 21. It's unknown if he ever met up with the date. He drove a white 2021 GMC Sierra pickup to the meet-up. It's not known if the vehicle has been recovered by police.
Friends and family members became concerned when they discovered the man's dog alone in his apartment. A missing person 's report was filed on March 14. Five days later, authorities found his body.
According to the outlet, Freiberger taught at the Melrose Yoga studio in Phoenix and was a member of the LGBTQ+ community. He'd posted on Instagram about becoming a yoga therapist in December 2024.
He also owned a roofing company called Strong Roofing LLC, which provides services like roofing, re-roofing, metal roofing, tile roofing, roof repairs and roof inspections.
Freiberger had credited his success to his yoga journey.
'My life had been flip turned upside down over the last year and a half, without this journey I have no idea if I would be around anymore,' he wrote in the Instagram post. 'I don't say that lightly, I say that with all seriousness.'
Freiberger's sister, Tina Hall, confirmed his death on Facebook Tuesday.
'It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news that Marcus is no longer with us,' she wrote. 'Losing him feels like losing a part of ourselves and I know this will be just as difficult for you. We thank all of you for the love and support you have given Marcus and our family.'
Police do not suspect foul play played a part in Freiberger's disappearance but an investigation is ongoing.
Officials with the Phoenix Police Department are asking anyone with information about the man's disappearance to call CrimeStop at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness if they wish to remain anonymous at 480-WITNESS.

Cabin crew suspended after passenger makes shock discovery on flight

Michael Tjendara, from Australia, has accused flight staff from Garuda Indonesia of stealing his phone. It comes after he tracked the lost device and spotted that it had been dumped in a river A group of cabin crew staff have been suspended after a passenger made a shocking discovery following the flight. Michael Tjendara was heading from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Melbourne on Garuda Indonesia on June 6, when his phone was stolen. The passenger claimed that he had put the mobile in the backseat pocket before he swapped seats on flight GA716 on June 6. He later returned to his old seat and realised the phone had vanished. ‌ After the flight, he managed to track the tech via Find My iPhone and got on the trail of what had happened to his device. Mr Tjendera shared screenshots documenting the development on Instagram. The screenshots traced his phone to a destination close to the Southbank Promenade in Melbourne, Australia. ‌ He claimed that the phone had been dumped near the Mercure Hotel, where the entire cabin crew were thought to be staying. His phone's signal was last picked up between 3.50pm and 4.40pm before it seemed to move towards a bridge. Lastly, the device was tracked and appeared to have been dropped into the Yarra River. In response to his bizarre discovery, the passenger pleaded with local businesses to share their CCTV footage so he could find the culprit. His social media posts gained traction across Indonesia, reports Mail Online. On Instagram, he said: "This isn't just about a phone − it's about the safety of all passengers in the future. Please help tag and share this story so the right people see it." On June 9, Garuda Indonesia's Director of Commercial and Cargo, Ade R. Susardi, revealed that the crew are at the spotlight of the investigation. He confirmed that the crew who were on duty at the time have since been suspended following the tracking allegation. He told Indonesia Business Post: "We are in continuous communication with the concerned passenger and remain committed to supporting him throughout the follow-up process. We can confirm that upon receiving the report, all cabin crew had followed standard operating and safety procedures, including promptly coordinating with airport authorities to initiate a search."

First picture of 'peacemaker' who was stabbed to death outside of prayer centre

Dara Sayed Barham, left, was killed after he tried to break up a fight near a restaurant in Hanworth Road (Pic: Instagram and Metro / UKNIP) This is the first picture of a 'hero' restaurant manager who was stabbed to death after trying to break up a fight outside a west London Muslim centre. The victim, named locally as Dara Sayed Barham, had intervened as 'peacemaker' after two men fought near his eatery on Hanworth Road. His best friend Kavan Soleman described how Dara had not considered his own safety when he came between the battling men on Sunday. The road remained closed today as forensics officers trawled the scene for clues. Medical bags still lay strewn outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre. Kavan told Metro that his friend had come to London four years ago and had been a 'perfect citizen'. He said: 'He was my best friend he would help anyone and do anything for anyone. The fight was nothing to do with him. But he was a perfect citizen, a hero who tried to come between them without worrying about himself, he was a peacemaker. 'I'm devastated he was such a good, hardworking person. He is Kurdish like me. His family are there. I'm going to the hospital as I live in London. I can't believe he has gone.' The incident happened just yards from the Hounslow High Street (Picture: UKNIP) Farnhan Ali, who runs a mobile phone store near the restaurant where the victim worked, described him as 'just a wonderful guy' who had recently bought a phone from him to use to send home to his Kurdish family. Farhan told Metro: 'I'm in shock he was a wonderful guy, my best customer. He bought a phone he had been saving up for from me. He said he wanted to use the camera to send a picture home to his mother. He was such a peaceful guy he was the best person.' A statement from the Metropolitan Police, issued yesterday, said officers were called to busy west London street yesterday after receiving reports that a 22-year-old man has been stabbed. Dara was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where he later died. His next of kin has been informed. No arrests have been made. Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation and enquiries are ongoing. A crime scene remains in place. Detective chief inspector Wayne Jolley said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time. The road was blocked off yesterday as the police carry out their investigation (Credits: UKNIP) 'This incident happened in a busy part of Hounslow during the middle of the afternoon. It's vital we hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the attack, the moments leading up to it, or the aftermath. 'If you think you might have caught any dash cam or mobile phone footage, please contact the police as soon as possible. You may have vital information that could assist our investigation. 'The incident happened outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre. At this time, there is nothing to suggest a link to the venue.' Beauty and the Geek star forced to deny she is involved in grisly murder case

Beauty and the Geek star, Kiera Johnstone, has taken to social media, refuting allegations she is involved in a murder case, which was reported in Australia last week The winner of dating show, Beauty and the Geek, has vehemently denied her involvement in a grisly murder in New South Wales, Australia. Kiera Johnstone, 26, who appeared on the Australian version of the series in 2021, insisted she has nothing to do with the shocking case after reports surfaced on Friday that a woman who starred in the reality TV show had been charged with a murder in Port Lincoln. A man's body was discovered in a home in the coastal town in Australia after emergency services were called to a property at about 3:25pm local time on Thursday following reports of a small fire. When crews arrived, they found a man dead inside the residence. A 34-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder. A suppression order preventing the publication of any information that could identify the woman, the victim, or the specific details surrounding the man's death was issued. However, after the news broke, speculation surfaced online attempting to link Keira with allegations stemming from the police report. Telling her followers there were rumours she had been involved in the murder for "reasons beyond my understanding", the reality star took to her Instagram Stories today. Insisting she wanted to be "absolutely clear", Keira said: "Hi everyone. A former contestant from Beauty and the Geek has been charged with a very serious crime. "Although no names have been released, for reasons beyond my understanding, there has been speculation online suggesting that I am involved. "Let me be absolutely clear: I am not involved in any way. I have not been charged with a crime. I have literally never even had a parking fine. The allegations being discussed have nothing to with me, and the fact that I even need to says this is incredibly upsetting. "It's deeply disturbing to see people spreading false information, making assumptions and sharing screenshots. I understand the internet can be quick to judge, but this kind of speculation is damaging and invasive and is something I take very seriously." Asking anyone 'fuelling the gossip' to "please stop", she continued: "If you are part of the group fuelling this - sharing, gossiping or silently watching - I ask you to please stop. "This is not entertainment. This is a serious situation, that involves real victims. you're literally sick if you think this is at all funny. "As this has nothing to do with me, this will be the only time I speak on the matter. Thank you to those who reached out with kindness and common sense." It comes after The Courier Mail reported on Friday that the woman arrested for the alleged murder was once a contestant on reality show Beauty and the Geek. South Australia Police have confirmed the victim and the accused knew each other and had been in a relationship. The woman was refused police bail and remains in custody. Assistant Commissioner Parrott said a cause of death had not yet been established and no further details could be released, as the victim's family had not yet been notified. The woman did not apply for bail and has been detained under the Mental Health Act. She is expected to return to court in December. The suppression order regarding the accused's identity is set to be reviewed by the court next week.
