Actress and disability campaigner, Liz Carr, is probably best known for her role as forensic examiner, Clarissa Mullery, in the TV crime drama, Silent Witness. She's also done comedy, theatre and even written a musical, about what she calls 'assisted suicide'. Last year she fronted the award-winning BBC TV documentary, Better Off Dead, making the case against assisted dying. Born and raised in Merseyside, Liz Carr became seriously ill when she was seven and has used a wheelchair since she was eleven. Whilst studying law at Nottingham University, she got involved in politics, disabled rights and activism. As her public profile grew she became a powerful voice in the debates over assisted dying. As the assisted dying bill returns to the Commons this week, with MPs debating and voting on a series of contentious amendments, Mark Coles speaks to Liz's friends and colleagues about her acting, comedy and campaigning. While new shows are set to air this week, Soccer Aid also makes comeback to ITV with a multitude of familiar faces - from Tyson Fury to Jill Scott - taking part in the challenge. A 20-year-old man who was a star two-sport athlete in high school was killed in a shooting at a Phoenix apartment, according to police. Officers responded to an apartment complex near 32nd and Glendale avenues at around 5:10 p.m. on June 7 after receiving reports of gunshots. They found Kendre Pride with at least one gunshot wound, according to department spokesperson Sgt. Rob Scherer. Pride did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the apartment, Scherer said. Homicide detectives took over the investigation, Scherer said. It was not known if police had identified any suspects. He encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish to provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case, Scherer said. Pride was a top junior two-sport athlete in the state who attended Carl Hayden Community High School in Phoenix in 2022 and played as a running back in football and as a guard in basketball. Pride was supposed to move to Basha High School in Chandler but ended up not doing so. He was listed as having played as a defensive back at Feather River College in Quincy, California, in fall 2024, according to the school's website. A nighttime collision between a marked patrol vehicle and a man on an electric skateboard has left the rider critically injured, the Flagstaff Police Department said. The incident occurred about 11:50 p.m. on June 3 in the 600 block of South Milton Road in Flagstaff, near the intersection of westbound Route 66. The off-duty officer was driving the vehicle northbound "in a patrol capacity," the department said, when the rider of the self-balancing, single-wheel electric skateboard entered the roadway, resulting in the collision. The rider sustained serious injuries in the crash. The officer immediately rendered aid at the scene, and the injured man was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center by emergency personnel. Flagstaff police were investigating the collision.
