from Sony Pictures Classics opened to a terrific $291k on 61 screens with Austen's star power undimmed, good reviews (87% Rotten Tomatoes Certified) and strong word of mouth. This homage is the latest of many screen outings for the beloved Regency author whose novels satirizing the British landed gentry of the late 18th and early 19th century. Her fandom is global and continues to draw audiences to numerous big and small screen adaptations of her novels — Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey — to modern day retellings from Clueless to Bridget Jones's Diary to biopic Becoming Jane to Austenland to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on the parody novel.

The film Stars Neal McDonough as a retired rodeo legend who risks it all to save his grandson. The film is at 73% with RT critics (26 reviews). Audiences love at a RT 94% certified.
And A24's comedy starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd is on a tear with an estimated $4.6 million for the three-day and $5.7 million for the four-day weekend in a national expansion to 1,055 screens (up from 60) in week 3. The film by Andrew DeYoung, financed and produced by Fifth Season, ranked no. 7 at the domestic box office with exit polls continuing to show excellent word-of-mouth across the country with fans of Robinson and his Netflix sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave turning out. The directorial debut of Andrew DeYoung follows a bromance gone bad between two suburban dads.
Daniel Robbins-directed comedy from Menemsha Films is looking at about $20K or thereabouts for its NYC debut holiday weekend at the Quad in NYC.
Noting the Rialto Pictures' remastered release of for the 40th anniversary of Akira Kurosawa's iconic film is estimated to gross $40k at 15 locations Friday through Sunday, including a three-day estimate of $11k at IFC Center in New York City.

Former Babyshambles guitarist Patrick Walden dead at 46
June 22 (UPI) -- Former Babyshambles guitarist Patrick Walden has died at the age of 46. "It is with deep regret and sadness that we share the news of Patrick Walden's death," the British rock band posted on Instagram Saturday. "We feel very fortunate to have known/loved and worked with him and we kindly ask for respect and privacy during these difficult times. Peter, Drew, Mik, Adam." Details regarding the cause and circumstances of his death were not specified. Variety noted that Walden was an original member of the band when singer Pete Doherty and Drew McConnell formed it in 2004. Walden co-wrote six songs on the group's debut album, Down in Albion, then quit the band in 2005 to deal with substance-abuse and legal issues. Walden -- who also performed with the bands Fluid and White Sport -- reunited with Babyshambles for numerous shows over the years, but never officially rejoined the group. The current lineup of Babyshambles includes Doherty, McConnell, Mick Whitnall and Adam Ficek. Their other albums include 2007's Shotter's Nation and 2013's Sequel to the Prequel. One of the movie producers, Jerry Bruckheimer, detailed the extensive scrutiny Hamilton provided and what he advocated for in the name of realism. "Lewis Hamilton saw a part of it and gave us a critique of how the drivers actually do various things," Bruckheimer said. "The level of specifics that he gave us, like in Silverstone in Turn 3 you're in second gear, and he could hear with his ear we [Pitt] were in third gear. "So it's that kind of thing that he's bringing to the movie. "And he said... when he finishes a race, especially like Singapore, where it's very hot, he can barely get out of the car, they lose 10 pounds... and it's not only him, it's all of them. "They're just completely exhausted [and] we're going to show what it takes to be an F1 driver." The filmmakers made several different decisions to enhance the realism, including using real racing cars, filming the movie at real tracks, and capturing real F1 teams for the background. All these elements further connect the movie to the real-life sport. While the film is better off with all the realism, the production costs went up as a result. "Everything that he has brought to this movie, I can't even express our thanks to him and all the folks from F1 who made this all possible," Bruckheimer added. "But the authenticity that he brings, we can't imagine what goes into what a driver does, and what the sport brings to an audience. "Sometimes we don't like to hear some of the things he says, because it costs us more money to fix things, but we're all in, we want to make it great, and he's certainly helping us." "F1" hits the big screen on June 27. Apple Films produced the movie, and Joseph Kosinski - of "Top Gun" fame - directed it.
