PennDOT: Lane restriction next week on I-78 at I-81 split in Union Twp.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced a lane restriction is scheduled for next Tuesday, June 24, on eastbound Interstate 78 at the Interstate 81 split in Union Township.
Weather permitting, officials said, work will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. A right lane restriction will be in place on eastbound I-78 during work hours.
"A PennDOT maintenance crew from Lebanon County will provide traffic control," officials said in a release. "Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone."
PennDOT said the restriction will be in place so a contractor can replace a weather information sensor on the roadway.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting 511PA.com. The free 24-hour service provides residents with traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts and traffic speed information.

New Pennsylvania license plates featuring Liberty Bell, "Let Freedom Ring" slogan available for order
New Pennsylvania license plate featuring the Liberty Bell is available for order New Pennsylvania license plate featuring the Liberty Bell is available for order New Pennsylvania license plate featuring the Liberty Bell is available for order The Pennsylvania "Let Freedom Ring" license plate unveiled last year is now available across the Commonwealth, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced Tuesday. The design features Philadelphia's iconic Liberty Bell and red, white and blue coloring. It's a nod to the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States in 2026, when the state is set to host several major events, including the NCAA March Madness men's basketball tournament, multiple FIFA World Cup games, the MLB All-Star Game and the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. About 12,000 drivers who filled out an early interest form have already had their orders filled. PennDOT Shapiro announced the new design was available to everyone in a social media video featuring sports mascots from around the state, from Pittsburgh's Pirate Parrot and Steely McBeam to Gritty and the Phillie Phanatic, opening their personalized plates in the new design. Instructions to order a license plate in the new design are available from PennDOT online. You can also request a personalized plate in the new design. Some partners, such as car dealerships and "online messengers," may still have an inventory of license plates with the old design, and will use up that supply before transitioning to the Liberty Bell version. It'll cost you $13 to make the switch, which is purely your decision, not mandatory. Specialty plates for military and special organizations will be updated with the Liberty Bell design in the coming months. Pennsylvania also added new welcome signs around the state border featuring the Let Freedom Ring design, as part of the "Great American Getaway" marketing campaign for the commonwealth.

Driver license, photo centers to be closed for Juneteenth holiday
PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — All driver license and photo centers will be closed in Pennsylvania for an extra day next week to mark the Juneteenth holiday. On Thursday, June 19, all Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) centers, including the full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers reached Galveston, Texas – the furthest point in the South – with news of the end of the Civil War. Juneteenth is a day that commemorates emancipation and the steps taken toward freedom. PennDOT noted that despite the closures, customers will still be able to obtain a variety of products and services through their website. All forms, publications, and manuals are accessible online. A complete listing of PennDOT driver and photo license center closings for this year is available online. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
