Did Doctor Odyssey Just Air Its Series Finale? Grade It!

Yahoo16-05-2025

Doctor Odyssey concluded its freshman run on Thursday, but with its fate still TBD, we can't help but wonder whether Episode 18 will also double as the series finale.
Thursday's episode picks up after last week's cliffhanger, with Max still stranded on land. Avery sets out on a mission to find the doctor, which doesn't turn out to be all that hard or even take all that long. She finds Max unharmed and unbothered by the earthquake, and they all head back to the ship together.

Elsewhere, The Odyssey's corporate office tells Captain Massey he is temporarily relieved of his duties after breaching protocol by going to shore in the aftermath of an earthquake to rescue those stranded passengers.
But that problem is also quickly resolved: The entire crew bands together to fight the powers that be on their boss' behalf, so Massey remains captain of this ship.
Just as the captain finds his happy ending this week, so does our central throuple. In a callback to Episode 1, Max and Avery dance to 'Despacito' in the sand at the beach, where they vow to take on life together as a couple. And the men call an official truce, with Tristan even admitting that Avery and Max make a cute pair. (The perfect bookend to a fever dream if you ask me!)
But with all those loose ends tied up, it feels like Doctor Odyssey is putting itself out to pasture. Should the series continue — and we hope it does! — we'd love to see it revitalized with elements of TVLine's Fever Dream Theory. Until then, it looks like this ship may have sailed.
After you grade the episode, and Season 1 overall, in our polls below, hit the comments with your take: Did the finale feel like the series' end? Or are you holding out hope for Season 2?

Dave Nemetz Reviews Countdown: Amazon's High-Octane Action Thriller Is Peak Dad TV, For Better or Worse

It's a shame Prime Video's new action thriller Countdown didn't premiere earlier this month, because it would've made a perfect Father's Day gift. Strong-jawed and action-packed, Countdown (debuting this Wednesday; I've seen the first three episodes) is a throwback to testosterone-heavy '80s TV dramas like The A-Team and Miami Vice, with lots of explosions, gunfights and car chases. In other words, it's pure Dad TV, so it should fit in nicely alongside Reacher, Bosch and The Terminal List in the Prime Video library. The story is nothing groundbreaking, and we can see the screenwriting seams at times — but the action hits so hard that it hardly matters. More from TVLine Here's How Prime Video Puts You in Charge of All Your Streaming Subscriptions Countdown EP Derek Haas Welcomes '24 Meets Graceland' Comparison, Teases One Surprise He Has Planned We Were Liars Author Explains What That Chilling Finale Ending Means for Potential Season 2 Supernatural veteran Jensen Ackles stars as Mark Meachum, an undercover LAPD detective who is recruited to join a top-secret task force after a federal agent is murdered in shocking fashion. (That murder, and the actors involved, let us know right away that this show means business.) Eric Dane plays the stone-faced head of the task force who assembles a dream team of agents to solve the murder… but the trail of clues soon leads them to a much larger danger that threatens pretty much everyone in Los Angeles. Hailing from #OneChicago showrunner Derek Haas, Countdown feels like a CBS crime drama with a supercharged production budget, unafraid to drop big bucks on eye-popping stunts and large-scale action sequences. With film production fleeing Hollywood in droves these days, it's also a nice reminder of the benefits of shooting in Los Angeles, with sun-soaked chase scenes through palm tree-lined streets. Therock soundtrack is like another character on the show, too, with the action scenes scored to screeching guitar riffs and pounding drums that match the show's propulsive energy. (Dads everywhere will be happily head-banging along and playing air guitar.) When the action stops, though, Countdown loses nearly all of its momentum. (It's almost a signal for Dad to go grab another beer.) The threat of citywide annihilation is certainly a compelling starting point for a thriller, but the investigation scenes and flashbacks are a little snoozy. Ackles' character throws out a few wise-ass remarks, but the witty banter is not really all that witty. The team's path is implausibly easy, too, as they elicit convenient confessions and stumble upon a terrorist's master plans. Plus, the scripts try to yank on our heartstrings with some maudlin moments that don't quite land, including a grim twist for one main character that feels tacked on just to add some emotional stakes. With his gravelly voice and unflappable demeanor, Ackles makes a more than capable action hero. As DEA agent Amber Oliveras, The Flash alum Jessica Camacho is impressively badass, shining above and beyond what's on the page. Dane, meanwhile, is so deadly serious here as team leader Nathan Blythe, it's like he's contractually forbidden from cracking a smile. He looks the part of the no-nonsense boss, though, and Countdown looks the part of a satisfying, if forgettable, action thriller. It doesn't always hit on all cylinders, but it delivers the fireworks we're looking for from a show like this. It's like a battering ram slamming through a screen door: not very subtle, but undeniably effective. THE TVLINE BOTTOM LINE: Prime Video's is a testosterone-heavy thriller that delivers big action, even when the story doesn't hold up. Your dad will love it.

How to watch the documentary 'Enigma' online from anywhere

"Enigma" gets to the big questions at the heart of current debates about transgender identity and rights. It does this through the prism of iconic pioneers April Ashley, Amanda Lear and others and their point of contact at Le Carrousel, an underground Parisian nightclub where trans women enjoyed a safe space to express themselves in the 1950s, before bringing the story up-to-date today. Here's how you can watch "Enigma" online around the world and from anywhere with a VPN. "Enigma" premieres on Tuesday, June 24 at 9 p.m. ET/ PT on HBO and will also be available to stream at the same time on Max.• U.S. — HBO/Max/Max on Prime Video• CAN — Crave• AUS — Max• Watch anywhere — try NordVPN risk-free With archival TV interviews and footage, plus home movies, the lives and experiences of Ashley (Vogue model who went through very public divorce from minor member of aristocracy in the late 1960s) and Lear (the so-called 'White queen of Disco' in the 70s and early 80s) - in the main - are used as an avatar to show how far transgender politics has come. Not without much personal pain and suffering, Ashley emerged as a 21st century advocate for the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and was honored as a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2012. Ashley died in 2021 but Lear continues to inspire as a performer and, as the publicity for the film puts it, "Define her own legacy." The two women had a strong relationship when they first met at La Carrousel but later fell out. There stories remain intertwined however. Arthur Corbett (later 3rd Baron Rowallan), heir of Lord Rowallan, in 1963 but the marriage soon deteriorated. A messy legal battle after Ashley had an affair saw her lawyers demanding maintenance payments in 1966 and Corbett responding a year later by filing suit to have the marriage annulled on the grounds that Ashley was male. It was granted in 1970 even though he had known about her history when they married. No, not right now. Those looking to watch "Enigma" will have to go Max (US & Aus) or Crave (Can). We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Watch: Bertha, George clash over Gladys in 'Gilded Age' weeks ahead

June 23 (UPI) -- Max is previewing the upcoming episodes of The Gilded Age Season 3. In a "weeks ahead" trailer released Sunday after the Season 3 premiere, viewers see Bertha and George Russell, portrayed by Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector, clashing over their daughter, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga). "We were a love match, and we've been happy," George says in the teaser. "Why couldn't Gladys have had the same?" "I'm building a position that will make her the envy of every woman living," Bertha responds. Bertha and George have come into new money and Bertha, a social climber, wants her daughter to be financially secure. Gladys ultimately disappears, and George blames Bertha. Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) created the period drama. The ensemble cast also includes Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Denee Benton, Louisa Jacobson, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Ben Ahlers, Ashlie Atkinson, Dylan Baker, Kate Baldwin, Victoria Clark, John Ellison Conlee, Michael Cumpsty, Kelley Curran, Jordan Donica, Jessica Frances Dukes, Claybourne Elder, Amy Forsyth, Jack Gilpin, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Ward Horton, Simon Jones, Celia Kennan-Bolger, Ben Lamb and Nathan Lane.
