Legendary BBC series hailed as ‘guilty pleasure' streaming for free in UK
A cult TV series has been added to a streaming service in its entirety for the first time ever, giving audiences a rare opportunity to watch it the whole way through.
Eldorado, the short-lived BBC One soap from EastEnders creators Tony Holland and Julia Smith, is available to watch on UKTV Play.
The iconic soap, which ran for just 156 episodes, followed the lives of British and European expatriates who resided in the fictional town of Los Barcos in Spain.
It hit screens first in 1992, with BBC bosses hopeful of replicating the success of Australian imports such as Neighbours or Home and Away.
The show didn't exactly pan out as the station hoped, though it did undergo huge changes towards the end of its run, which received positive reviews from audiences and an uptick in ratings.
Despite the improvements, however, Eldorado was ultimately cancelled in 1993.
Viewers who missed the BBC serial first time around have had few opportunities in the subsequent decades to give it a go, with the soap having been re-run on TV a number of times.
UK Gold screened it in the late 90s and early noughties and a selection of episodes were made available on the UK's BritBox a few years ago.

U&Drama re-ran the cult soap in its entirety earlier this year, with episodes added to streaming service UKTV Play for a short time after broadcast.
However, the service has now re-added the earlier episodes, meaning that – for the first time ever – fans can essentially stream the whole Los Barcos saga.
Though Eldorado was critiqued during its initial run, fan opinion has softened over the years. One viewer wrote on Reddit that they were enjoying the latest round of re-runs, branding the serial a 'guilty pleasure.'
Another called the show 'brilliant' and 'comedy gold'.
Just two weeks into the re-runs, fans were quick to share their delight at being able to revisit the sunny soap.

Another added: 'Enjoying the repeats of Eldorado. I mean I can't hear it half the time but at least I can blame those Spanish acoustics and not my age.'
'Thoroughly enjoyed the first episodes of #Eldorado being repeated yesterday' said one.
When the repeats concluded, fan James wrote on X: 'Los Barcos, I'm gonna miss you,' referring to the overhauled era of the show as 'f***ing fantastic television'.

Moment terrified Brits watch from their Cyprus hotel balconies as Iranian missiles rain down on Israel 250 miles across the Mediterranean
This is the surreal moment British revellers were left stunned as they spotted ballistic missiles flying over the sky while they partied in Ayia Napa amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. Bizarre footage taken by British tourists from a balcony in the Cypriot party spot shows the long-range missiles soaring over the sky, leaving the holidaymakers stunned. One man is heard saying: 'That is not a firework', while a female asks 'are we going to die?' as music plays in the background. The clip has racked over two million views on TikTok. Another video shared by a Brit in Cyprus showed a barrage of projectiles illuminating the night sky as they headed for Israel. The caption read: 'You're having a nice drink in Cyprus and then you see Iranian missiles heading towards Israel.' When asked by a viewer if she was in danger, the tourist said: 'No need to worry, you just see it from afar'. In Cyprus, locals and tourists have been left stunned at the spectacle of missiles jetting over the island this week, with several reportedly flocking to rooftops and beachfront bars to watch. Speaking to Cypriot newsoutlet Ynet, a Finnish tourist said: 'It's crazy—we can see everything from here. 'People just stand on balconies and the boardwalk and watch the missiles and intercepts. BBC statement about Gaza: Doctors Under Attack
BBC News is determined to report all aspects of the conflict in the Middle East impartially and fairly. Over a year ago we commissioned Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, a documentary about the plight of medics in Gaza, from an independent production company, Basement Films. We paused production of this film in April, having made a decision that we could not broadcast the film while a review into a separate Gaza documentary was ongoing. With both films coming from independent production companies, and both about Gaza, it was right to wait for any relevant findings – and put them into action – before broadcasting the film. However, we wanted the doctors' voices to be heard. Our aim was to find a way to air some of the material in our news programmes, in line with our impartiality standards, before the review was published. For some weeks, the BBC has been working with Basement Films to find a way to tell the stories of these doctors on our platforms. Yesterday it became apparent that we have reached the end of the road with these discussions. We have come to the conclusion that broadcasting this material risked creating a perception of partiality that would not meet the high standards that the public rightly expect of the BBC. Impartiality is a core principle of BBC News. It is one of the reasons that we are the world's most trusted broadcaster. Therefore, we are transferring ownership of the film material to Basement Films. Contrary to some reports, since we paused production of Gaza: Doctors Under Attack in April, it has not undergone the BBC's final pre-broadcast sign-off processes. Any film broadcast will not be a BBC film. The BBC has produced powerful coverage of this conflict. Alongside breaking news and ongoing analysis, we have produced award winning documentaries such as Life and Death in Gaza, and Gaza 101. We have also investigated allegations of abuse of Palestinian prisoners and Israel's attacks on Gaza's hospitals. Just today we are running a powerful piece of longform journalism that captures the final two weeks inside a Gaza hospital before it was forced to close.
