Zayed Khan refutes rumours of affair with Esha Deol; says Aishwarya Rai knows how to play with co-stars: ‘She is so beautiful, it's like porcelain'

Zayed Khan and Esha Deol have starred in several films together, including Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne, Dus, Cash, and others. Given their frequent collaborations, rumours once swirled that the two were dating. However, in a recent interaction, Zayed rubbished all such claims, clarifying that he was in a long-term relationship with his now-wife Malaika Parekh during the time he worked with Esha. He also referred to Esha as his 'buddy for life.' Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Zayed said, 'No, I was never in a relationship with Esha Deol. We have done a lot of films together. I was always with my wife Malaika, and Esha and Malaika have always been good friends. Esha is a sweetheart, and I don't want to say anything because she got married and all. She has been a buddy for life.' Zayed also reflected on his experience of working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film Shabd. Calling the film ahead of its time, he said, 'Shabd was the film that showed a married woman falling in love with a young man. Strangely, all the films that I had chosen were ahead of their time. Shabd had a good story. It was a slice of life told at a time when people weren't ready for it.' Zayed further admitted to being awestruck by Aishwarya's beauty and noted how she had a strong presence around her co-stars. He explained, 'I was a fan of Aishwarya when she became Miss World. I used to have her picture in the locker room. When I heard the script of the film and learned that Aishwarya is in the film, I quickly asked where do I sign on. I had a wonderful experience working with her.' He added, 'She really knows how to play with you. There are actors who take time to come on set and there is drama and actual work is suffering, that's the worst situation to be in. But with Aishwarya, I thought it would be tough to break my fan moment, but she so naturally just said 'hi' and asked me if I want to do rehearsals first. She is so beautiful, it's like porcelain, it's not possible. Today people do filters and all, but she had a natural filter.' Zayed's career in the film industry was relatively short-lived. Despite starring in various high-profile projects, his career took a downturn after the failure of the 2009 film Blue. He was last seen on the big screen in 2015's Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene.

Zayed Khan on being there for sister Sussanne during divorce with Hrithik Roshan, her relationship with Arsalan: ‘He is younger than me, but…'

Once a familiar face in early 2000s Bollywood, Zayed Khan stepped away from the spotlight without much explanation. Now, in a candid and emotional conversation with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, the actor has finally opened up about his career hiatus, personal struggles, and the strong family bonds that have grounded him throughout. Zayed spoke with honesty about the emotional and financial challenges his family faced, as well as the close relationship he shares with his sisters, Sussanne Khan, ex-wife of actor Hrithik Roshan, and Farah Khan Ali, former wife of DJ Aqeel. When asked if he supported his siblings through their respective separations, Zayed responded: 'It's pretty evident. I've always been there for them. But we are an extremely conservative family with an extremely modern viewpoint of how things can be. Everything does not have to be black and white, number one. What is the most important thing? You want to see the person happy. Why be in anything if you're going to be unhappy about it? What's it going to take for everybody to be happy? You want to give it a shot? Give it a shot. Doesn't work out? Okay. Is this where you want to go? We are with you. My parents have always been the kind, they just look in your eyes and say, 'This is what you want? You know the realities, this is what you want?' If you have it in your eyes, sincerely, 'Yes, this is what I want'. Done. We are with you. Your happiness is most important.' On whether they consult each other while making major decisions, Zayed emphasized the deep emotional intuition shared within the family: 'See, we are a pack, we're like a clan. I don't even have to know something is wrong with my sister to call her up and say, 'What happened? Something is not right.' I just know. I have that kind of connection with my sisters. You know what? That's what a modern family is all about, man, right now. Look at where you're living. You're not living in Dalhousie, for heaven's sake. You're living in Mumbai. Look at the people that you're interacting with, the kind of jobs that you're doing—this and that. I mean, there are so many variables at play right now. So many variables. So when there's something emotional, which is the highest point, yes, there are sounding boards. We all are each others sounding boards. We love to say what other people can't. Simple as that. Your best friend also won't be able to say it. Your brother, your sister will say it. Your father, your mother will say it. And it's the ugly truth. And hear it. Okay, man, now you know. Now you're making a known decision. You're making an informed decision.' Also Read | Zayed Khan says he felt his flop Blue was 'Fast & Furious ka baap' while reading script: 'We spent Rs 100 cr on it, Kylie Minogue sang' That honesty, he says, can sometimes be difficult to hear. Recalling a tough moment, he shared: 'They said to me that I haven't even given 20% to my career,' he admitted, adding how he responded, 'That y'all have too many opinions. I mean, I have to say, when we're at the dining table, everybody has a very strong personality. So, you know, to get across, 'I'm right, I'm the best, I know it all', it's a tough battle between everybody.' Zayed also spoke about how both Sussanne and Farah have maintained amicable relationships with their ex-partners, Hrithik Roshan and DJ Aqeel, respectively. According to him, it all comes down to shared values and emotional maturity: 'If you take everything else out of the equation, what's the most important thing that you have with your partner? Trust. Understanding. And compatibility, in some sort of way. If you haven't taken that and put it on a higher pedestal than everything else, then there's something just blatantly wrong. I mean, did you get married for fame? Did you get married for money? If you got married for all of these things, then you're bound to have massive, massive problems, especially at the time of a divorce. But if you met your soulmate, right? You married your soulmate. Okay. And things went on. Water went under the bridge. Your soulmate is still there.' He continued: 'I don't know about everybody else. But for us, we are highly evolved in understanding such situations. And quite honestly, I don't care what anybody else thinks. We are. We are happy that everybody is happy. We were a good family. We have children to look forward to. We've got so many better things to look forward to than all this' When asked about Sussanne's current partner, Arsalan, Zayed had only positive things to say: 'He's a cool kid, man. I think he's a sweetheart guy. He's full of life and energy. He's always smiling and happy, and he wants to do fun things. Yeah, man. He's good. Of course, he's younger to me, but he's good.' Zayed has previously revealed that his next film, TFTNW (The Film That Never Was) will be coming soon on Jio Cinema and has special cameos from various stars.

Zayed Khan says he felt his flop Blue was ‘Fast & Furious ka baap' while reading script: ‘We spent Rs 100 cr on it, Kylie Minogue sang'

Unlike his cousin Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan is still waiting for a comeback on screen. Both the actors were part of some memorable films back in the 2000s before their careers began deteriorating. Fardeen has made a comeback now with Heeramandi and Khel Khel Mein last year, and the hit Housefull 5 this year. But Zayed's last stint was the TV show Haasil in 2018. Zayed feels he did films which were way ahead of their time, which explains why they didn't work at the box office back then. He specifically named Leena Yadav's 2005 psychological drama Shabd, his home production and Sahil Sangha's 2011 romantic comedy Love Breakups Zindagi, and Anthony D'Souza's 2009 action adventure dud Blue as films ahead of their time. 'If you'd read the script of Blue, you'd have felt ye Fast & Furious ka baap hai (this is superior to Fast & Furious). It was fantastically done, and I felt Blue is really going to break all barriers. With that cast — Akshay, Sanju, Lara, and Katrina — I felt it's going to go in the direction of a franchise,' said Zayed on Siddharth Kanan's podcast. Produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, Blue starred Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, and Zayed, with Katrina Kaif in a cameo. With large portions shot underwater, the film bombed at the box office. 'The failure surprised me because I don't think we caught the script like how it was written. I had told Anthony. You can shoot amazing things and feel like a badshah (king), but when you don't stitch the narrative correctly with thehrao (poise)… the action scenes can be done well without even a fist being raised, it can all be in the screenplay. There was a difference between cup and lip, of how that should've translated on screen,' argued Zayed. Blue was indeed intended to be a franchise as D'Souza had even revealed his plans to make a sequel titled Aasman in 2012. However, Zayed hinted that there were creative differences between the cast, particularly Kumar, and the makers on the sets of Blue. He said, 'I wouldn't want to say because there were some creative differences between people on set, but doesn't that happen all the time?' Zayed also revealed that the makers left no stones unturned while making the film. 'We'd spent Rs 100 crore then, it was unheard of. And I have to say they did a fantastic job at the production, with the best of action directors from Hollywood and Kylie Minogue coming in,' recalled Zayed. The popular Australian singer crooned the dance song 'Chiggy Wiggy' alongside Sonu Nigam in Blue, and also featured in the song alongside Kumar. Later, he clarified he was joking about the same.

In 1989, a fire on The Sword of Tipu Sultan set left Sanjay Khan with over 65% burns and 74 surgeries. His son, Zayed Khan, recalls the trauma and his father's resilience. Sanjay completed the film and rebuilt his life, inspiring Zayed, who now prepares for his OTT comeback. Actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan's life changed forever in 1989 when a massive fire broke out on the sets of The Sword of Tipu Sultan at Premier Studios in Mysore. The tragic incident, sparked by faulty firefighting systems and neglected safety protocols, claimed 52 lives and left Sanjay Khan with over 65% third-degree burns. The veteran star endured a harrowing recovery, undergoing 74 surgeries over the following years. In a heartfelt interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sanjay's son, actor Zayed Khan , opened up about witnessing the trauma as a child and the resilience his father displayed in its aftermath. 'I didn't recognise him at first' 'It was very tough because I was only 11 years old,' Zayed recalled. 'I remember when he was finally brought to the hospital after a month—I was dying to see him. My mother said, 'Go say hi.' There were two beds in the ICU, both with burn victims. I passed the first bed thinking he was in the second, and suddenly, from behind, a hand raised and called out, 'Zayed.'' What followed was a moment etched in Zayed's memory forever. 'At first, I didn't recognize him. His head was swollen like a football, his skin literally melting into the sheets. He hadn't even seen himself in the mirror yet. He held my hand and asked, 'Zayed, are you scared?' I couldn't say a word. Then he said something impossible in that moment—'Before you know it, I'll build a better hospital than this so that people like me don't have to come here… and you don't have to see me like this. I'll make Tipu Sultan again, and we'll have a great time together, my son.'' Zayed said that while the doctors had given up hope, his father's inner strength defied all odds. 'He was made of steel—his soul and heart were something else entirely.' A triumphant return after 74 surgeries Two years later, Sanjay Khan proved the doubters wrong. 'He got back on a horse after undergoing 74 surgeries,' Zayed revealed. 'He completed Tipu Sultan, and then took me to Bangalore. He bought land there, handed me the first brick—the foundation brick—and asked me to name it. I named it Golden Palms. And later, he built a hotel there.' On the work front, Zayed Khan is currently gearing up for a comeback with the OTT film The Film That Never Was.
