The 32-year-old rapper doesn't hold back in the scathing lyrics, which seemingly reference her new relationship with NFL star and call out Offset's alleged failure to step up as a father and co-parent. "Do you how you do me, bet you we won't speak again," Cardi raps on the track, before delivering the bar that's lighting up the internet, "Favorite player from your favorite team, he in my DM." The line appears to allude to Diggs, who recently joined the New England Patriots and has reportedly gone Instagram-official with the "WAP" artist. Later in the song, she gets even more specific. "Heard them Patriots got them n-ggas, let me in the locker room," she spits, with what many believe is a flirty nod to her rumored new flame. Diggs is a veteran wide receiver entering his 11th season in the NFL. He spent his first five years with the Minnesota Vikings, followed by a successful stint with the Buffalo Bills, and was most recently with the Houston Texans before signing with the New England Patriots. The song's release comes on the heels of ongoing tension between Cardi and Offset, who share three children: Kulture, 6, Wave, 3, and Blossom, 8 months. Cardi filed for divorce in July 2024, citing irreconcilable differences, and is seeking full custody of their children. But according to Cardi, Offset hasn't been holding up his end of the parenting bargain. In a fiery social media rant, the Grammy winner accused her estranged husband of contributing "not one cent" toward their kids' expenses since the split. She broke down the staggering costs, a personal driver on retainer for $10,000 a month, private school tuition totaling $80,000 annually, and tutors and music classes that run into the thousands per week. In one moment captured on video, Diggs is seen opening a container filled with a pink substance, cautioning the women, "Don't take it all," before encouraging them to "go have fun and come back." Later, he's shown handing one of them a plastic bag containing another unidentified item. Diggs has yet to speak out on the incident. I wasn't familiar with the song 'WAP', although the word 'song' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. The lyrics are best described as 'adult themed'. Not a sure fire hit for the family singing at Hogmanay, perhaps, but there it was, being blasted out on the Number 7 by a pair of 12-year-olds. For some, earbud phobia goes hand-in-hand with the terror of holding the phone apparatus to the actual ear. Perhaps, in a Howard Huges sort of a way, they dread possible infection from bacteria. These victims are forced to hold their phones at arms length and shout at the screen, usually during a long conversation with someone very far away. The absence of headphones means that the volume must be maintained at ear-splitting volume. We were patient. To a point. And then we told them. We were direct, but kind. Sometimes. So now I say, kindly, come on, people, be courageous. Brave the horror of the waxy bud. Plug in and tune in. Save us all earwigging your conversations and dodgy tunes.

Though she hasn't confirmed the diss, the message in the lyrics is hard to miss. The cover art for her single, which Cardi teased on Instagram, features a vivid scene of a classic NYC summer day — a burst fire hydrant, red Solo cups, lipstick, dominoes, and blunt wrappers scattered across a sidewalk with a caption that said, 'We OUTSIDE this Friday'. In addition to debuting Outside, Cardi lit up the Cannes stage with a high-energy set featuring hits like Bodak Yellow, Money, I Like It, Up, and Bongos, her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. She closed the show with the fan-favourite WAP, marking her first performance in Cannes as nothing short of unforgettable.
