Scrap bar exam: Advocates, students
Bengaluru: About 8,000 advocates and students in the state have called for the abolition of the All India Bar Examination (AIBE), which they deemed unscientific. Citing the instance of an LLM graduate who could not clear the Bar Council of India's AIBE, All India Lawyers Union's Bengaluru district president TR Venkatesh Gowda said the exam is unscientific and there is no transparency. "We have given a memorandum to scrap it," he said. "When MBBS and engineering (graduates) do not have an exam to become professionals, why do advocates have it?" he said. The union's state secretary Srinivas Kumar also called AIBE unscientific. He said the courts of assistant commissioners and deputy commissioners have a lot of corruption, and cases are not cleared in the stipulated time. It is better to shift the cases to civil courts, he said. Harindra, state president said a signature campaign was held on June 13 to present the demands to the state govt through district officials. Lawyers are ready to lay siege to the Vidhana Soudha if their demands are not met in a month, he said.

Bengaluru stampede: Siddaramaiah says he got invite hours before event; blames RCB, KSCA
Footwears lie on the ground outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium following a stampede after a large number of fans gathered for the felicitation of IPL 2025 winning RCB, in Bengaluru, Karnataka. (PTI Photo) NEW DELHI: In an attempt to distance his government from the Bengaluru stampede, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday reiterated that the RCB team felicitation event held in front of Vidhana Soudha on June 4 was not organised by the state government. He said the programme on the steps of Vidhana Soudha was arranged by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). "On June 4, the Karnataka State Cricket Association and RCB organised a felicitation programme for players. I was invited at 11.29 am that day and I accepted it. The chief secretary also called me. I had said 'go ahead.' The governor also attended the event. There are media reports that the governor had come to the event on his own. It is not correct," Siddaramaiah said. Newspapers and TV channels have reported that no one had invited the governor and he had come on his own, so I'm giving this clarification," he added. When asked whether an official invitation had been sent to the governor before the call, Siddaramaiah said, "I don't know who invited or not. I called him as I was attending the event." The stampede that occurred during celebrations outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations claimed 11 lives. Following the Bengaluru stampede, the Karnataka Government on June 5 suspended top police officials at the Cubbon Park Police Station and formed a one-man commission under a retired High Court Judge to probe the incident. When asked about increasing compensation for the stampede victims, Siddaramaiah said that Rs 25 lakh has been given to the families of each person who died. "We will discuss it in the cabinet," he added. Replying to a question about the opposition BJP's protest demanding his resignation over the stampede, he said the opposition is doing politics. "They will do politics. The BJP lies and misleads the people and then demands resignation. During Kumbh Mela 40-50 people were killed due to stampede. Did they demand resignation then? A bridge collapsed on the inauguration day, people were killed. Did they demand the PM's resignation? How many were killed in the Godhra incident. Who was the CM then in Gujarat? During Covid without oxygen supply people died. Did Basavaraj Bommai (former Karnataka CM from BJP) resign then?" he said.

‘Was Consulted': Siddaramaiah Changes Stance On RCB Event Week After Bengaluru Stampede
Last Updated: Siddaramaiah said: "Govindraj called up the governor and handed me the phone...I told the governor that since I was attending the Vidhana Soudha event, he should too..." After distancing himself from the June 4 RCB felicitation event for days, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has now changed his stance — he said he was consulted for the Vidhan Soudha function. The Karnataka government went ahead with a felicitation ceremony for IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Vidhana Soudha on June 4, despite a clear warning from the police about potential security risks. Later that evening, a massive crowd of fans gathered outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for celebration of RCB's maiden trophy win in 18 years, resulting in a stampede that left 11 people dead. Siddaramaiah had earlier said his government the state administration had no role in organising the felicitation event at the stadium and that he was merely invited to the Vidhan Soudha function. 'On the 4th of this month, the KSCA and RCB representatives held a felicitation programme for the players. At around 11:29 am, I was invited. They requested to hold the programme, and I agreed. The Chief Secretary also called me about this, and I said yes." 'The governor also attended the felicitation. The media is played it out in such a way, saying that the governor came of his own volition. That's not correct." 'My political secretary Govindraj called up the governor and handed me the phone, telling that the governor too was coming. I told the governor that since I was attending, he should attend as well. He attended, and the felicitation ended in 20 minutes due to the rains. He left from there, and I headed back to my residence," said the CM. In a letter dated June 4, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) MN Karibasvanna had warned of security concerns and flagged these to the DPAR. In a letter addressed to DPAR head G Satyavathi, Vidhana Soudha security division officials flagged serious concerns about inadequate personnel to manage security arrangements for the high-profile event.
