The actress feels lucky to be alive, but she wants to feel more youthful because she loathes her looks. In an interview with the i newspaper, she explained: "I feel like I'm having a bit of a crisis about it. "People say that we should feel lucky to still be here and of course that is true. "But I also want to be selfish and say, 'I hate my face, I would love to go out without a bra on, I want my 25-year-old body back." Despite her wish to look more youthful with age, Sian is happy with her life in North Wales with her husband Ian and their 12-year-old daughter Gracie. She said: "I'm just happy with the way things are. Article continues below "I absolutely love my job, but real life is hard. I've got real people problems - they're the things to worry about. "I go to work to have a laugh." Sian is starring in BBC One's The Power of Parker - a sitcom that tells the story of businessman Martin Parker (Conleth Hill), whose world shatters when his wife Diane (Rosie Cavaliero) discovers he had a fling with her sister Kath (Sian), and that dangerous men, whom Martin borrowed cash from, come demanding at his door. The second series of the 1990s-based show - which is co-written by Sian and Paul Coleman - is set in 1992, and Kath and Martin have become content in their relationship, while Diane is running his electronics shop in a male-dominated environment. Sexism was referenced because that is how life was back then. Sian explained: "We didn't write it with any agenda. We didn't include it to make any sort of point. That's just what it was like then. "I worked in a golf club, so I've seen that type of man and I wasn't offended. "I'd be offended if my daughter worked somewhere and a man spoke to her like that now." Kath and Diane do not regard themselves as "strong women", but they try to be confident when they are "struggling" to be taken seriously. "It's the men we're mocking, not the women."

Peter Kay's Car Share co-star Sian Gibson feared she'd 'ruined' his career
Sian Gibson had given up on showbusiness and was was living happily in Mold, north Wales with her family, when an email from the actress' old friend Peter Kay changed everything Sian Gibson had worked with Peter Kay more than once before winning the role of Kayleigh in Car Share, appearing in That Peter Kay Thing and three episodes of Phoenix Nights. But when she first saw a script for the much-loved BBC series, she had almost completely given up on acting. 'I was working in a call centre in Chester when Peter sent me a script, asking what I thought of it,' she told the Radio Times. Sian, who pops up on Sunday Brunch this weekend, has stayed busy since the success of Car Share. She's appeared in Death in Paradise, Taskmaster and most recently with Timothy Spall in the BBC's Death Valley. But she didn't think Car Share would restart her acting career – in fact she thought her performance might have wrecked Peter Kay's career as well: 'When I first saw it, I thought I was dreadful – I was worried that I had just ruined Peter Kay's career.' Sian's fears proved to be unfounded and Car Share went on to be one of the most-watched shows on iPlayer, winning multiple awards including Best Comedy at the 2016, 2018 and 2019 National Television Awards. Sian has known Peter for many years. They had bonded over a shared sense of humour while they were studying performing arts at the University of Salford. She says she was sure that he was the student from her year that was most likely to succeed. Peter would painstakingly edit together his home-made sketches into short films, Sian recalls, and had a perfectionist streak that viewers would soon see in Car Share. Songs on the show's fictitious Forever FM radio station often blossom into wildly imaginative 'pop video' fantasy sequences. Sian's path to fame was a little rockier than Peter's, she revealed. 'Things were great at the beginning of my career. Because I'm short, I always played younger parts. I was in my 20s and always played teenagers. Then I hit 30 and that doesn't work anymore. It all just dried up.' She recalled one disastrous audition that, for a while, looked like it would be the last one: "I remember going to the final audition of my acting career,' she recalled. Sian explained that the audition was for a small role in Emmerdale: "All I had to say was, 'You alright?' I sat in the waiting room getting nervous and I was that desperate for the job I couldn't even deliver the line – I was too hyper because I wanted it so much. That's when I realised it was over.' She married her husband Ian, a gas fitter, and in 2013 they had a daughter together. She wasn't too keen on her job in a banking call centre but it was steady work and she ended up staying there for several years: "Because the people were nice and it was next door to a lovely garden centre that did the best toasties,' she told the Independent. 'I'm still not entirely sure what they did.' When Peter sent her the Car Share script, she asked him why he hadn't chosen 'one of those really good actresses' such as Suranne Jones or Sheridan Smith, but he explained to her that what was most important to him was their easy chemistry, which came from a 20-year friendship.

Gaelic group announce highly-anticipated second album
GAELIC vocal group Sian have announced their highly-anticipated second album, araon. Originally brought together by the Blas festival in 2016, to celebrate the work of female bards, Sian comprises three of today's most exquisitely gifted Gaelic singers – Ceitlin Lilidh, Eilidh Cormack and Ellen MacDonald – accompanied by in-demand multi-instrumentalist Innes White. With direct connections among the singers to Lewis, Skye and North Uist, their arrangements match deep feeling for tradition with stunning, boldly imaginative harmony work, which has seen them likened to The Staves and even Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The first single from the album, Seo a' Bhliadhna, was released on Friday – a traditional lament with connections to the Isle of Skye and Raasay, and particularly the MacLean family. The album is produced by Sian's Innes White and Innes Strachan (Niteworks, LUSA), and was recorded and mixed by Iain Hutchison at GloWorm Recording. The release date for the full album is yet to be announced. Cormack said: 'Seo a' Bhliadhna is a beautiful lament, closely connected to the Isle of Skye and Raasay song tradition. 'The composer tells of love and loss in a terrible year – grieving not only her brother and sister, but the man she loves, the golden-haired hunter. 'We wanted to approach the song with respect and care, and I hope listeners can feel that in the arrangement.' MacDonald added: 'The reason I love Sian so much is that you can do so much with just voices. 'You can come up with really cool sounds with just voices.' Ahead of the album release, Sian will tour Scotland throughout this month, performing new material live for the first time. The tour begins tomorrow night in Arisaig's Astley Hall.
