Pawan hopes AP will be ‘address for development'

Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Thursday released a comprehensive progress report marking one year since assuming his responsibilities, stating, 'Transparency and accountability must exist in politics and government. It is my moral responsibility to present the development and achievements accomplished by the departments under my purview over the past year.' Pawan, who holds portfolios including panchayat raj, rural development, rural water supply, environment, forest, and science and technology, completed one year in office on Thursday. Along with the report, he issued a letter addressed to the people of Andhra Pradesh, in which he thanked the people for 'liberating the state' from the shackles of servitude. Pawan asserted that from 2019 to 2024, the state suffered under a 'dictatorial rule,' hindering development, eroding law and order, casting shadows over the future of youth, and compromising women's safety. He noted that during this period, the state capital's construction remained stagnant, with 'not a single brick moved. To rescue the state and restore democratic governance, he said, the NDA alliance, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and N Chandrababu Naidu, and with the collective support of the people, achieved a historic victory, securing 164 Assembly seats with a 94 per cent strike rate. He added that the alliance government is diligently working day and night to fulfill promises made to the people and steer the state back towards development. In just one year, the government has achieved progress unseen in the last five years, instilling confidence not only among the public but also among investors. He said that the Central government is now providing full support, witnessing the ongoing development and good governance in the state. This cooperation, he said, is propelling Andhra Pradesh towards comprehensive development in all sectors, aiming to achieve 'Swarnandhra 2047'. He expressed hope that the public would closely examine the comprehensive report on development activities undertaken by the panchayat raj, rural development, rural water supply, environment, forest, and science and technology departments, recognising the NDA government's progress and its commitment to fulfilling the trust placed in them. Pawan Kalyan revealed that the government has successfully instilled confidence in investors considering setting up businesses in the state, adding that the central government is also strongly supporting development initiatives. He attributed the state's progress to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's 'experience and visionary leadership.' The Deputy Chief Minister expressed confidence that in the next four years, Andhra Pradesh will be transformed into an 'address for development.'

2 with Chinese link arrested for cheating woman of Rs 21 lakh: Delhi Police

Two men were arrested by the Delhi Police Thursday for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 21 lakh with promises of lucrative returns on investments. According to the police, the arrested men received help from Chinese nationals to commit the crime. The woman registered an online complaint with the police, alleging that the fraudsters would show her a fake investment application displaying her profits, losses, and investment details like any other app. The woman, convinced by the app's dashboard, deposited her money in three different bank accounts while they remained in touch with her through Telegram and WhatsApp, said the police. 'On further scrutiny, it was found that the digital footprints of the WhatsApp and Telegram accounts, as well as the access points for the alleged bank accounts, were linked to different foreign countries. Moreover, the bank account holders were not residing at the addresses mentioned in the banking records, making it difficult to trace them,' said Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West). 'Despite these challenges, digital footprints of the actual account operators were extracted using both open and restricted sources. With a mix of manual efforts and technical intelligence, the accused persons were identified as Pawan and Mankiraat Dhillon,' the DCP added. The police said they traced Pawan, 29, and Dhillon, 36, to a hideout in Mohali in Punjab. They allegedly confessed that Pawan was in touch with Chinese nationals through Telegram and helped them procure bank accounts. The police said Dhillon, who was facing financial strain, opened a bank account in his wife's name to receive the proceeds of the crimes the two committed. The two had also travelled to Nepal with the help of their Chinese counterparts, where they received their commission in a bank account registered there with the help of their foreign associates. The police recovered their flight tickets, hotel bill, debit card, cheque book, and bank passbook, along with a mobile phone and SIM card. The two have been booked under Section 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

2 with Chinese link held for duping woman in share scam

New Delhi: Two men were arrested for allegedly duping people by offering high returns on stock market investments. Police have found that the men, along with other gang members, were in contact with Chinese scammers and transferred money to them. A woman from Ashok Vihar filed a police complaint that she was duped of Rs 21 lakh by fraudsters who promised her lucrative returns through share market investments. The scammers showed her a fake application similar to a real brokerage platform. "The victim transferred the entire amount in three separate transactions to bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. They were in contact through social media," police said. A case under Section 318 (cheating) of BNS was registered. The social media and bank accounts were found linked to multiple foreign countries. There were also discrepancies in the addresses of the bank account holders. DCP (northwest) Bhisham Singh said Pawan (29) and Mankiraat Dhillon (36) were arrested from Punjab's Mohali. Pawan told police that he was in contact with Chinese nationals and supplied them with bank account details collected from people in his area. Dhillon opened a current account in his wife's name using a fake address. The duo travelled to Nepal, where they received proceeds of the crime in a bank account with the help of the Chinese. An air ticket, hotel bill, chequebook and passbook of the alleged bank account, along with the SIM card linked to the account and the handset, were recovered.

My sister has been living in London for 15 years and is staying there with her husband and three children," Pawan Patel, brother of Rupal Patel, told ANI. Pawan recalled helping Rupal with her luggage, hugging her and asking her to care for herself. "She was suffering from a medical condition. Procedural reforms, technology upgrade under way to strengthen election exercise, says EC official

The Election Commission of India (EC) is in the process of implementing several technology-level changes and on-the-ground procedural reforms aimed at strengthening election integrity, boosting elector participation and improving voter convenience, said its Deputy Director P. Pawan on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. While several improvements were targeted at electors, who were the building blocks of democracy, the EC has also initiated pan-India all-party meetings at the CEO/DEO/ERO level and interactions with the heads of national and State political parties, the deputy director at EC's media division said at an interaction with select media persons. 'This approach of proactively engaging with political parties is a paradigm shift,' Mr. Pawan said. On the technology front, an upgraded digitisation effort to build an ECINET platform is under way to facilitate rapid dissemination of VTR (voter turnout) figures, other electoral data and statistical reports. It will feature an integrated dashboard that can replace at least 40 different apps/websites and provide all election-related information at a single point. The platform is being beta tested and is likely to be launched before the Bihar elections, expected later this year, Mr. Pawan said. A new mechanism for unique Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) is also being put in place. This will largely eliminate duplication of EPIC numbers arising from increase in the proportion of voters that led to situations of different voters sharing identical alpha-numeric sequence. 'However, the instances of EPIC number duplication have been found to be minuscule,' Mr. Pawan said. Meanwhile, the EC is also exploring modalities of EPIC-Aadhaar linkage to avoid duplication or abuse. Technical consultations are in progress in this regard. According to Mr. Pawan, another measure was to break a nearly two-decade hiatus in conducting a special summary revision ahead of byelections scheduled in four places this month. 'While usually, these exercises are conducted annually, the law provides for undertaking a revision ahead of a byelection,' he said. The other changes, among the set of 23 new initiatives launched since Gyanesh Kumar took charge as Chief Election Commissioner earlier this year, were to introduce mobile phone deposit boxes at polling stations and reduce the number of electors per polling booth from 1,500 to 1,200 per booth to ease crowding, the EC official said. 'The phone deposit facility follows an assessment that barring the device was a likely factor dissuading people turning out to vote,' the official added. Another measure is to directly obtain particulars of death registration from the data base of the Registrar General to verify and update the electoral roll eliminating the need for the bereaved kin to submit Form 7 and to accentuate critical information in voter slips. The establishment of additional polling booths are envisaged in high-rises and residential colonies. Structured capacity building workshops under the auspices of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in Delhi have been initiated for booth-level agents of political parties with a priority on the States that would enter the election cycle next. Booth-level officers are being assigned a standard photo id card while engaging in door-to-door visits. Also, a legal defence team is being constituted to disseminate outcomes of various writ challenges relating to the electoral processes via media platforms, he said. P. Jawahar, Chief Electoral Officer, M. Adarsh, Deputy CEO and other Elections Department officials participated.
