Morata on Como shortlist despite ongoing Galatasaray commitment
Reports in Italy claim that Spain national team captain Alvaro Morata, who is still owned by Milan, could be an option for Como in the summer transfer window, despite the player's ongoing loan deal with Galatasaray. Morata joined Milan in the last summer transfer window, in 2024, after the Rossoneri agreed to pay the €13m release clause in the Spaniard's contract with Atletico Madrid. Advertisement The first half of the 2024-25 season did not get off to the smoothest of starts for Morata, or for the Rossoneri collectively. EPA-EFE/MATTEO BAZZI In the end, Morata joined Galatasaray on loan with a series of options to buy. Galatasaray paid a fee of €6m to bring Morata in on loan for 12 months, until January of 2026. They have an option to extend that loan deal until June 2026 for an additional €3m, and have options to buy in January 2026 for €8m and in June 2026 for €9m. (Photo by) However, according to reports from Morata is also on the shortlist for Como, who are reportedly targeting a spot in the European places in Serie A next season. Advertisement Gianluca Di Marzio adds that there has already been contact between the Spain international and compatriot Fabregas. Cesc Fabregas's side are backed by the wealthiest owners of any club in Serie A, and also have the benefit of a strong relationship between the coach and Morata, who played together at Chelsea and for the Spain national team. What The Return Of Max Allegri Means For AC Milan Transfer Strategy
Massimiliano Allegri celebrates with the Serie A Trophy (Photo by) Having endured a hugely disappointing season, AC Milan have wasted little time ringing the changes, announcing earlier this week that Max Allegri would return for a second stint at the club. The Rossoneri stumbled to an eighth-place finish in Serie A and lost the Coppa Italia Final to Bologna – a defeat analysed in this previous column – as coaches Paulo Fonseca and Sérgio Conceição both failed to make a positive impact. Fonseca was sacked in late December after winning just six of 17 Serie A fixtures with him at the helm. Conceição won the Italian Super Cup just days after being appointed, but was eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Feyenoord and ultimately failed to qualify for Europe. Ultimately that has led to sweeping changes. Former Lazio official Igli Tare has been named Sporting Director, with Allegri's appointment confirmed shortly afterwards in a statement on Milan's official website. 'AC Milan is pleased to announce that Massimiliano Allegri has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Men's First Team,' it read. 'Born in Livorno on 11 August 1967, Massimiliano Allegri played in Serie A for Pisa, Pescara, Cagliari, Perugia, and Napoli before beginning his coaching career in 2002. He managed Aglianese, SPAL, Grosseto, and Sassuolo before making his Serie A coaching debut with Cagliari in 2008. In 2010, he joined AC Milan, winning the Club's 18th Scudetto in his first season, followed by the Italian Super Cup in 2011. 'The Club extends a warm welcome and best wishes to Massimiliano and his staff.' According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Allegri has signed a two-year contract with an option to extend the agreement for a further 12 months. The Italian transfer expert also believes Milan will pay their new boss around €5.5 million ($6.24 million) per season for the duration of the deal. Having appointed the new Coach, Milan appear to be wasting little time making changes to the squad at Allegri's disposal. It seems much of the work Tare intends to do will be funded by the sale of Tijjani Reijnders, with Manchester City close to completing a move for the midfielder. According to multiple sources, an initial €60 million ($68.09 million) bid was rejected, with the Premier League club – keen to get the transfer finalised ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup – immediately upped the fee to €70 million ($79.43 million). Reijnders weighed in with 15 goals and four assists in all competitions for Milan last season, and it seems Allegri has identified some of his former players as potential replacements. Nicolò Rovella and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia both featured under the tactician during his time at Juventus, with the duo now identified as Milan targets. It is particularly notable that the Coach is pushing for a reunion with Rovella, with Allegri widely believed to have opposed Juve's decision to send the youngster to Lazio in 2023, but unable to prevent the €17 million ($19.29 million) move being completed. Another high profile name heading for the exit is Theo Hernandez, with his agent finding the club in no mood to negotiate earlier this week. Manuel Quilon reportedly held a meeting with Igli Tare, the new sporting director immediately rejecting the €7 million ($8.51 million) annual salary demanded by the player's representative. Hernandez's current contract with Milan expires in June 2026, with Milan having made it clear they will not allow the full-back to run down his deal and leave for free. As discussed in this previous column, the 27-year-old was a constant source of problems for the club this season, and he has been told to find a new club. So while Max Allegri's return means there will be a familiar face on the bench in 2025/26, the departure of those high profile players means AC Milan will look very different next season.

Paulo Fonseca's touchline ban to be upheld
A press release from Olympique Lyonnais suggests that Paulo Fonseca's nine-month touchline ban will be upheld by the authorities, despite an appeal. Fonseca was handed a nine-month ban for confronting referee Benoît Millot in the dying moments of Olympique Lyonnais' 2-1 victory over Stade Brestois in March. The suspension handed down by the LFP means that the Lyon manager is banned from the touchline until November 30. The Portuguese manager is even banned from entering the dressing room before, during and after the game, until September 15th. Advertisement Lyon were critical of the LFP's ban for Fonseca, appointed at the end of January and stated that they would appeal. OL had been set to make their appeal through the LFP. However, it was instead made through the Comité National Olympique du Sport Français (CNOSF) in order to find a mediation. However, during the appeal, which took place towards the end of the Ligue 1 campaign, Fonseca was not given the chance to defend himself, something he is frustrated about. As a result, he was not confident that the ban would be overturned. OL have now denounced the procedure, stating that the authorities 'refused to engage in discussion'. The communiqué, therefore, suggests that they have been made aware of the failure of the appeal. Sergio Conceicao leaves AC Milan after just 6 months, Allegri tipped to return to club
AC Milan have parted ways with manager Sergio Conceicao after just six months in charge. Advertisement The Portuguese coach took over from Paulo Fonseca in December and lifted the Italian Super Cup in just his second game with the club, beating rivals Inter in Saudi Arabia. But the chance of more silverware disappeared with defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final and an eighth-place finish in Serie A left them without European football next season. A brief statement read: 'AC Milan and Sergio Conceicao will not continue their journey together next season. 'The club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication shown during their time leading the first team over the past few months. The AC Milan family parts with the coach who won the 50th trophy in the club's history, wishing him the best for the future.' Advertisement Reports in Italy suggest Massimiliano Allegri could be in line to return to the San Siro, having previously led the Rossoneri between 2010 and 2014.

Milan part ways with Conceicao after disappointing season
May 29 (Reuters) - AC Milan have sacked coach Sergio Conceicao, the Serie A side announced on Thursday, following a disappointing season in which they finished ninth in the league and missed out on European competition for the first time since 2019. "The Club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication shown during their time leading the team over the past few months," Milan said in a statement. Conceicao was appointed in December as a replacement for Paulo Fonseca and got off to an impressive start as he led Milan to victory in the Italian Super Cup in his second match in charge. However, results in the league did not improve under the Portuguese and they were also eliminated from the Champions League in a playoff loss to Dutch side Feyenoord in February. Milan's last hope of salvaging the season ended earlier in May with a bitter 1–0 loss to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final. Conceicao was not on the touchline for the season's final match against Monza at San Siro, having received a one-match ban after being sent off in the defeat by AS Roma last weekend — a result that ended Milan's last hope of securing a European spot.
