To promote communal harmony and unity in diversity, former Union minister and senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) served his guests a classic Holi sweet, gujiya. It was served with aam-panna, prepared with mangoes grown in Naqvi's orchard in Rampur. With the same idea of harmony, Naqvi on Holi this year had offered his guests aloo chaat and kimami sewai, a popular dessert relished in the holy month of Ramzan. Behind Closed Doors Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, a lawyer by profession, has been vocal about judicial reforms ever since he assumed office in 2022. In recent months, he has also called for greater accountability and publicly batted for transparency. The Vice President is learnt to have held a series of closed-door meetings with members of the legal fraternity. While the precise agenda remains under wraps, he is said to have met members of the Bar in Chandigarh, Shimla and Bengaluru, and held private discussions with former Chief Justices T S Thakur and M N Venkatachaliah, respectively. Norway Solidarity DURING HIS visit to France for the UN Ocean Conference, Union Minister Jitendra Singh held several meetings with Norwegian delegates on-board a naval vessel at Monaco. He met the Crown Prince of Norway HE Haakon and their Minister of International Development Åsmund Grøver Aukrust. While topics such as marine planning and Arctic research were discussed, the Norwegian minister expressed the country's solidarity with India following the terror attack on tourists in J&K's Pahalgam. Singh was informed that the Norwegian people support India and want PM Narendra Modi to visit their country. Both ministers were seen giving thumbs up to the camera.

Pakistan writing its own epitaph by offering sanctuary to terrorists: BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
NEW DELHI: BJP leader and former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Saturday that Pakistan is writing its own epitaph by offering a sanctuary to terrorists and asserted that it amounted to bleeding Islam. Talking to reporters while celebrating Eid ul-Azha, Naqvi said Pakistan has given a licence to "barbarian beasts" to wound humanity and Islam and made terrorism and terrorists its "national industry and national assets", according to a statement. Naqvi celebrated the festival by offering "gujiya", a sweet associated traditionally with Holi, to people. All the festivals of the world are celebrated together in India with fervour and gaiety, and that is why it is called "Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat", the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, referring to the Narendra Modi government's emphasis on celebrating different facets of Indian culture together.

Pakistan will have to sacrifice executioners of oppression who are threat not only to humanity but also to Islam: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi after Eid al-Adha prayer
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, while extending Eid-al-Adha greetings and urging citizens to uphold harmony and follow government guidelines, also remarked on the completion of one month of Operation Sindoor, stating that Pakistan, a 'territory of terrorism', must eliminate the executioners of oppression and crime who, he said, are a threat to both humanity and Islam. Speaking to reporters after offering Namaz at Imamia Hall, Shia Jama Masjid, Naqvi said that everyone should respect the government's guidelines and ensure that the spirit of unity and brotherhood is maintained across the country. 'Everyone should respect the government guidelines and we should all take care that the thread of harmony and brotherhood does not weaken from anywhere. Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Eid al Adha...' Naqvi said. Speaking on Operation Sindoor, which has completed one month, the BJP leader said, 'Pakistan, which is the territory of terrorism, will have to sacrifice the executioners of oppression and crime. It will have to be completely wiped out because these people are a threat not only to humanity but also to Islam. The country will never accept those who are playing the role of stooges of Pakistan...' Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended Eid greetings to the people. In his X post, PM Modi said, 'Best wishes on Eid ul-Adha. May this occasion inspire harmony and strengthen the fabric of peace in our society. Wishing everyone good health and prosperity.' Union Minister Kiren Rijiju conveyed his wishes, posting his greeting in Urdu. 'Happy Eid al-Adha! Heartfelt congratulations to all Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of Eid al-Adha,' he wrote. As people across the country celebrate Eid, multiple dargahs and mosques were filled with people offering prayers early in the morning. In Mumbai, people offered Namaz at the Jama Masjid Mahim Dargah, while in Delhi, at the first light of dawn, people turned to the Jama masjid to offer their prayers. (ANI)

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi interview: ‘Waqf change an administrative reform, not religious… Only those who enjoyed a legal licence to loot are scared'
The Waqf (Amendment) Act has been challenged in the Supreme Court by several individuals and organisations. In an interview with The Indian Express, former Union minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi backs the law, saying India is a country of reforms and that the Waqf system needed reform, and that the amendments brought by the government rectify problems administratively without encroaching on matters of faith. Excerpts: The amendment is an administrative reform and not a religious one. Only those who thought they had a legal licence to loot are scared of this correction. The law does not pertain to any community but is the law of the land, whose beneficiaries will include Waqf stakeholders, including Muslims. Some people are trying to communalise it (the Act) by creating an imaginary legal confusion and want communal conflict by creating fear. Everyone must understand that India is a nation of reform, and has seen many kinds of reforms – be it social, economic, administrative, electoral, educational, agricultural or health – before and after Independence. We are not a closed country with a touch-me-not approach to legislation. They tried to make the entire system of Waqf a touch-me-not one. This approach is neither in national interest nor in the interest of society. The idea (of the Act) is to bring the system within the Constitutional hierarchy to benefit stakeholders. People must understand that when they talk about (land going back to) 1913, baat niklegi to door talaq jaayegi (a lot of other things will come up). The Judicial Committee of the British Privy Council held in 1894-95 that this is a system of the worst kind. Countries under British rule then reformed their Waqf systems. I was Union Minority Affairs minister for a long time and studied this issue in depth. In India, the Muslim League went for communal polarisation. They politically exploited the issue. In 1910, (Muhammad Ali) Jinnah became a member of the Imperial Legislative Council from Bombay in connivance with the British. The 1913 Act was a product of Jinnah's connivance with the British… Even in Pakistan, the Waqf system has been reformed in 1959, 1960, etc. They claim Hindus have been included in the Waqf Council and Waqf boards, but we need to understand that after Partition, Muslims went to Pakistan in large numbers while Hindus and Sikhs came to India in large numbers. The Muslims who chose to leave India left their properties behind, while those Hindus and Sikhs who chose India left theirs in Pakistan. The Muslims (in Pakistan) were allowed to occupy the vacant properties, and today own them. But Hindus who chose India are neither owners nor tenants of those properties that the Muslims left behind. A sword constantly dangles over their heads. Hence, non-Muslims are also stakeholders in the Waqf system. (Religious) conversions are dangerous, particularly if they are forced, taken up by fraudulent means or are funded. When one speaks about tribals, they should ask for whom the Waqf system exists? It is for Muslims and only those practising Islam can do Waqf. As I said earlier, non-Muslims are also stakeholders in the Waqf system as they left everything they owned in Pakistan. Their stakes need to be respected. People in many states say things like… 'We got this shop in 1949 when our family came to India from Pakistan, but I still get notices and have to pay hafta to retain them'. So, legal correction is the need of the hour. Please remember that people have been claiming half the country's property as Waqf. They say Parliament, roads, fields, trees and rivers are Waqf properties. This kind of criminal anarchy needed to be remedied by bringing it within the bounds of the Constitution. Faith is protected under the law but administrative problems need to be addressed.
