Pakistan writing its own epitaph by offering sanctuary to terrorists: BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
NEW DELHI: BJP leader and former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Saturday that Pakistan is writing its own epitaph by offering a sanctuary to terrorists and asserted that it amounted to bleeding Islam.
Talking to reporters while celebrating Eid ul-Azha, Naqvi said Pakistan has given a licence to "barbarian beasts" to wound humanity and Islam and made terrorism and terrorists its "national industry and national assets", according to a statement.
Naqvi celebrated the festival by offering "gujiya", a sweet associated traditionally with Holi, to people.
All the festivals of the world are celebrated together in India with fervour and gaiety, and that is why it is called "Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat", the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, referring to the Narendra Modi government's emphasis on celebrating different facets of Indian culture together.

Akhilesh Yadav eyes women vote bank with safety pledge, financial aid
Almost two years ahead of the UP assembly polls, Samajwadi Party chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav has started eyeing the " women vote bank " in the politically crucial state. Targeting the BJP-headed UP government, Yadav said women have started distancing themselves from the ruling BJP as they are not safe under the current government. He claimed that injustice and oppression were at their peak. The state government's zero tolerance policy on law and order and atrocities against women has become a "zero". Yadav announced that if his party comes to power in Uttar Pradesh, a financial assistance of ₹3,000 would be provided to poor women. He criticised the state government for its alleged failure to ensure the safety and welfare of women and girls. "The situation has become unsafe for women under the BJP government . Every day, we hear cases of injustice to women... If the Samajwadi Party forms a government, ₹3,000 will be given to poor women in the state," Yadav said. He also highlighted his party's plan plans for enhancing women's safety if the SP returns to power. "We will strengthen women's security... If structural changes are needed in the police, our government will take big decisions in favour of women's welfare...," Yadav said. While focussing on the "women vote-bank", Yadav blamed the government for misusing the police force for its political gains. "Police will not do the right things, if they are used to win elections," Yadav told reporters. He added that if there is no proper policing, the law and order would not be good. Sources said Yadav wants his party's women wing to expand its base at the ground level.

Margao: BJP state president Damodar Naik on Sunday attributed his party's consecutive electoral defeats in the Fatorda constituency to demographic changes brought about by the 2012 delimitation exercise. He said that while the redrawing of boundaries severed the party's traditional strongholds, the minority-dominated areas that largely comprised the Fatorda constituency remained beyond BJP's electoral reach. Naik was elected MLA of Fatorda for two terms before losing to incumbent Vijai Sardesai since the 2012 assembly polls. Naik said that the delimitation process fundamentally altered Fatorda's electoral landscape. The constituency lost significant portions of Gogol and Comba — areas where BJP traditionally enjoyed strong support — which were redistributed to neighbouring Curtorim and Margao constituencies respectively. Naik drew parallels between Fatorda and other Catholic-dominated constituencies in South Goa where BJP has struggled to make inroads. The political rivalry between Naik and Sardesai recently intensified at Friday's BJP karyakarta melava. At the gathering, Naik challenged Sardesai to name a single signature project implemented during his 13-year tenure, even stating his readiness to quit politics if Sardesai could prove he brought any major development project to the constituency. Naik specifically highlighted his own achievements during his two-term tenure as the Fatorda MLA, citing the South Goa district hospital, South Goa collectorate complex, Ravindra Bhavan, and South Goa Planning and Development Authority's market complex as the flagship projects completed under his leadership. His challenge was supported by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, who publicly acknowledged that Fatorda witnessed infrastructure development during Naik's earlier stint as the constituency's MLA. Chandigarh: Union housing, urban affairs and power minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the office of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust built at PWD Rest House Vyaspur in Yamunanagar. During a meeting chaired by the Union power minister with the members of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, detailed discussion was held on initiating the construction of the Lohgarh Memorial. A monitoring committee and expert committee will monitor the construction process of the memorial, and the issue of organisation of cultural programmes related to Sikh heritage was also discussed. Former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was nominated as the chairman of the monitoring committee. The expert committee will be responsible for identifying key historical facts and significant events related to the monument, as well as contributing to its preservation and enhancement through in-depth research.
