ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have located an 80-year-old man, believed to be suffering from Alzheimer's disease, who was seen riding a motorcycle against traffic without wearing a helmet. Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the man was spotted along KM24 of the Second Link Expressway at around 10.30am on Tuesday (June 17). 'He rode against the flow of traffic for approximately 700m in a dangerous manner and without wearing a helmet. 'He was later brought to the Iskandar Puteri district traffic investigation and enforcement division,' he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 18). ACP Kumarasan added that the man's family had been contacted, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He said the authorities were waiting for a medical report to confirm the man's condition before deciding on further action. He also urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Iskandar Puteri police hotline at 07-5101322. Earlier, a 12-second video clip of the incident went viral, showing the man riding against traffic.

The June 10 incident took place at 3.20pm along a road near a school in the bustling Gelang Patah town. An 11-second video of the incident went viral on social media. Iskandar Puteri district police chief M. Kumarasan said the 69-year-old driver had unloaded a soil consignment nearby but forgot to lower the truck's rear bed. 'The truck hit an electric cable along Jalan Johor Bahru-Gelang Patah-Pendas, causing three nearby concrete lamp posts to collapse,' the Assistant Commissioner said in a statement on June 11. Luckily, the road was not busy, and no injuries were reported. Asst Comm Kumarasan said the driver lodged a police report after the incident. ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 14-year-old girl and her 70-year-old grandmother, both Chinese nationals, were injured after an intruder broke into their home in Gelang Patah and demanded valuables. Police said the incident happened on Sunday. The alleged intruder was apprehended within three hours of the incident. The suspect allegedly choked the teenager when the victims resisted. A struggle followed, and the intruder fled the scene without taking anything. District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said both victims sustained injuries and received medical treatment. Police conducted a raid on a house in Tanjung Kupang and arrested a 33-year-old suspect at 2.30pm the same day. "Checks revealed the suspect has a criminal record with two previous offences. A urine test returned negative for drugs," he said in a statement yesterday. The suspect is currently under a seven-day remand until June 8 to assist with investigations for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery. If convicted, the suspect faces up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine, or whipping. Kumarasan also urged anyone with information on criminal activity to report it to the nearest police station or contact the Iskandar Puteri District Control Centre at 07-511 3622 or the hotline at 07-511 4486.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police arrested a 33-year-old man just three hours after he allegedly attempted to rob a teenage girl and her grandmother at a house in Gelang Patah here on Sunday. Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M. Kumarasan said in the 11.30am incident, the victims, a 14-year-old Chinese national and her grandmother, in her 70s, were at home when they were confronted by an unknown man. "The suspect ordered the victims to hand over their valuables before choking one of them, resulting in a struggle between the suspect and both victims. "The suspect then fled the scene after failing to obtain the valuables. Both victims sustained injuries and were referred to the hospital for treatment," he said in a statement yesterday. Acting on information received, a team from the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division together with officers from the Tanjung Kupang police station arrested the suspect at 2.30pm on the same day. A background check revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records, while the initial urine screening test came back negative for drugs. "Police also seized a T-shirt and a pair of shorts believed to have been worn during the incident. The suspect has been remanded for seven days from June 2 to June 8 to assist in the investigations," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery. The offence is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment and may also include a fine or whipping, if convicted. M. Kumarasan also expressed his appreciation to members of the public for providing information that led to the swift arrest of the suspect. – BERNAMA
