Man who rode motorcycle against traffic in Johor is believed to have Alzheimer's
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have located an 80-year-old man, believed to be suffering from Alzheimer's disease, who was seen riding a motorcycle against traffic without wearing a helmet.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the man was spotted along KM24 of the Second Link Expressway at around 10.30am on Tuesday (June 17).
'He rode against the flow of traffic for approximately 700m in a dangerous manner and without wearing a helmet.
'He was later brought to the Iskandar Puteri district traffic investigation and enforcement division,' he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 18).
ACP Kumarasan added that the man's family had been contacted, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He said the authorities were waiting for a medical report to confirm the man's condition before deciding on further action.
He also urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Iskandar Puteri police hotline at 07-5101322.
Earlier, a 12-second video clip of the incident went viral, showing the man riding against traffic.

JOHOR BARU: A 14-year-old motorcycle pillion rider was killed in an accident with a lorry at Ulu Tiram here. ACP Mohd Sohaimi added that the motorcyclist sustained leg injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail for medical treatment. He said the 35-year-old lorry driver was detained to assist in investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He also urged the public to obey traffic laws and exercise caution, especially during peak hours and nighttime driving, to prevent similar tragedies. 'Op Mabuk' nets intoxicated driver and 25 traffic summonses
BATU PAHAT: A 20-year-old man was arrested for drink-driving during a traffic enforcement operation targeting intoxicated motorists across the district, yesterday. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the operation, codenamed 'Op Mabuk', kicked off at 11pm yesterday until 5am the following morning, covering various areas and included a roadblock at KM3 Jalan Kluang–Batu Pahat. "The suspect was detained under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 after a breathalyser test showed he had exceeded the legal alcohol limit," he said. The man was held overnight and is expected to be released on bail today pending further investigation, while his vehicle was seized. He may face charges for driving under the influence of alcohol, Shahrulanuar told the New Straits Times when contacted today. He warned motorists against drink-driving, adding that offenders face stiff penalties including a maximum fine of RM30,000, a two-year prison term, and a mandatory two-year licence suspension. "Driving under the influence endangers not only yourself but everyone else on the road. Don't take that risk," he said. A total of 25 summonses were issued during the six-hour operation for various traffic offences. These included three motorists for running red lights, misuse of high beams (4), ignoring traffic signals (2), and registration plate violations (6). Three motorcyclists were issued with summonses for missing side mirrors, two for expired road tax and one was riding without a valid licence. He added that four 4x4 drivers were slapped with summonses for driving with an expired road tax, had number plate violations and had no driving licence.

Police nab man who drove off with special needs girl in Penaga
KEPALA BATAS: Police have arrested a man who fled in a vehicle with a 12-year-old special needs girl in Penaga on Friday (June 20). Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred around 5.30pm when the girl's mother had gone to her husband's workshop to deliver engine oil, leaving her daughter in the car with the engine still running. "However, when the woman, who is in her 40s, returned to the vehicle, she discovered that both the car and her daughter were missing. She then used a location tracking app to locate her phone, which was with her daughter, and found it was in the Bagan Lalang area of Butterworth," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). He added that based on this information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters, together with personnel from the Butterworth police station, managed to arrest a suspect and recover both the victim and the vehicle. He said checks revealed that the suspect, who is in his 60s, has a criminal record with seven cases and 11 drug-related cases. "The victim is in good condition and did not sustain any injuries. She was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for a medical examination," he added. Anuar said that further investigations are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Sections 379A and 363 of the Penal Code.
