Johor police seek NRD's help to trace teacher Lo Kwan Fong's next-of-kin
JOHOR BARU, June 18 — Police are seeking the assistance of the National Registration Department (NRD) to locate the next-of-kin of teacher Lo Kwan Fong, whose decomposed body was discovered at her home in Skudai last Thursday. Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said efforts are underway to identify and contact any of Lo's known family members to expedite the process of claiming her remains, currently held at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA). 'So far, the victim's remains are still at HSA, and no family members have come forward to claim them. 'There was a school that approached the authorities to claim the remains, but we did not release them. Priority is given to the next-of-kin first,' he told reporters when contacted today. Updating the media, Kumarasan said Lo was found dead in her Bandar Selesa Jaya home after being reported missing for about a month by her colleagues. Preliminary investigations revealed that Lo, who lived alone, rarely interacted with her neighbours. 'The condition of the victim's house indicated that she spent much of her time at home and seldom ventured out. 'Our investigations did not uncover any signs of foul play, and there were no criminal elements related to her death,' he said. The discovery followed reports of a foul smell emanating from her house, prompting a neighbour to alert the police. A post-mortem conducted by forensic experts at HSA determined that the cause of death was unascertainable due to the advanced state of decomposition. Lo, described as an only child, was believed to have been deceased for about a month. Both her parents had passed away several years ago.

Teacher found dead in home uncontactable since Sept, says exco
Lo Kwan Fong's decomposed body was found in her home last Thursday. PETALING JAYA : Lo Kwan Fong, the 39-year-old teacher whose decomposed body was found in her home in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, last Thursday, had been uncontactable since September, said state executive councillor Aznan Tamin. The state education and information committee chairman said the last time Lo had contacted her school was on Sept 26, 2024. 'The teacher could not be contacted via phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger or Telegram. 'The school principal also issued show-cause letters for her absence from duty on Nov 21 and Dec 19 last year. 'The teacher's phone number continued to be unreachable on March 12, causing the school to resort to various other ways to track her,' Bernama quoted him as saying. Yesterday, Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan said Lo, a teacher at a school in Taman Tunku Aminah, was found dead after her neighbours alerted police to a foul smell coming from the house in Bandar Selesa Jaya last Thursday. He said Lo was believed to have died a month ago, and that the post-mortem could not determine the cause of death due to the advanced state of decomposition. Aznan said the school attempted to track Lo via letters of inquiry to government agencies such as the road transport department, prisons department, immigration department and national registration department. On Dec 29, her neighbour told the school the teacher had not returned home for a long time, going by the many letters and mail stuffed into the windows and door of her house, while her car was parked on the roadside nearby. 'The deceased was an only child and lived alone after her parents died,' he said, adding that the teacher was believed to have grappled with personal problems like depression. Aznan said her body was still at Sultanah Aminah Hospital here as no next of kin had come forward to claim it.

Johor teacher's absence traced back to September as authorities uncover tragic details
JOHOR BARU, June 17 — The school authorities were mystified after chasing up various avenues to locate a female teacher who was reportedly absent from classroom duty since last September (2024), before the devastating news emerged of a decomposed body found at her home last Thursday. Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said the last time teacher Lo Kwan Fong, 39, contacted her school (in Johor Bahru) was on Sept 26, 2024 to inform it of her absence before she went elusive and became untraceable with futile attempts to contact her from Nov 10 of the same year. 'The teacher could not be contacted via phone calls, WhatsApp, short messaging service (SMS) and Messenger and Telegram apps. The school principal also issued a show-cause letter for the deceased's absence from duty on Nov 21 and Dec 19 last year. 'The teacher's phone number continued to be unreachable on March 12, 2025, causing the school to resort to various other ways to track her,' he said in a statement here today. Aznan said among the methods used were through letters of inquiry sent to government agencies like the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Prisons Department, the Immigration Department and a letter requesting her address from the National Registration Department. In addition, on Dec 29, 2024, the deceased's neighbour informed that the teacher had not returned home for a long time, going by the many letters and mail stuffed into the windows and door of her house, while her car was parked on the roadside nearby. 'The deceased was an only child and lived alone after her parents died,' he said, adding that the teacher was believed to have grappled with personal problems like depression. Aznan stated that as of the night of June 13, the body of the deceased was still at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here as no next of kin has come forward to claim it. Yesterday, police confirmed the discovery of the decomposed body of a teacher at a house in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Iskandar Puteri near here, and believed that the deceased had died about a month ago. — Bernama

Teacher found dead in Johor—Malaysian authorities seek her aunt in Singapore to be notified
SINGAPORE: The colleagues of a 39-year-old teacher who was recently found dead in Johor are hoping to find her elderly relative to notify her, an aunt who is said to be living in Singapore. Lo Kwan Fong had worked as a teacher and vice-principal at SJKC Woon Hua, a primary school in Kulai, Johor, according to recent Facebook posts. The last time anyone saw her was in February, when a colleague visited her. Her neighbours also said that they had not seen the teacher for some time now. On Thursday (Jun 12), her remains were found in her home at Bandar Selesa Jaya, Johor. After one of her neighbours noticed an unpleasant smell, they called the police. A report in Lianhe Zaobao says that Ms Lo may have passed away a month before the discovery. 'A gentle and humble role model, she wholeheartedly embraced her mission as an educator. She cared deeply for her students and was loved by one and all: students, parents, and colleagues alike. She worked hard and made school a better place for her students. As a mentor, Kwan Fong was a pillar and beacon,' reads a post in the Death Kopitiam Singapore Facebook page on Monday (Jun 16). Her remains are currently at a government hospital in Johor while the search for her next-of-kin is ongoing. Ms Lo was the only child of her parents, who passed away in 2010. Her mother was known by the name 江莱好 , and their family had lived in Bandar Selesa Jaya. However, there is ample reason to believe that Ms Lo has an aunt who lives in Singapore. She is believed to be aged 75, around the same age as Ms Lo's parents would have been today. There is also a possibility that she has other relatives who live in Taiping, Perak. Any person who has information on Ms Lo's relatives is asked to reach out to the police in Skudai, Johor, at (+60) 07-511-2622. District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan was quoted in the New Straits Times as saying that after a post-mortem examination was conducted, the cause of death of Ms Lo could not be determined as the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. 'The teacher is believed to have died about one month prior. Investigations found that she had not reported for work since Sept 24 last year,' he said, adding 'The case has been classified as a sudden death report. No criminal elements were detected.' /TISG Read also: Indian migrant worker fell to his death from HDB flat; MOM assists his family
