Egypt, Comoros pledge stronger economic ties, call for unified African voice on global issues
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi welcomed Comorian President Ghazali Othman on Sunday at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo, in an official visit marked by a ceremonial reception, bilateral talks, cooperation agreements, and a joint press conference. According to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shinawy, the discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations between Cairo and Moroni, with both leaders pledging to strengthen cooperation across a range of key sectors—including economy, investment, education, healthcare, energy, tourism, fisheries, and infrastructure. During the press conference, President Al-Sisi underscored the deep historical and fraternal bonds between Egypt and Comoros, rooted in shared Arab, African, and Islamic identities. He reaffirmed Egypt's support for the 'Emerging Comoros Plan 2030,' offering Egyptian expertise in development and infrastructure to help advance strategic projects across the archipelago. Al-Sisi also stressed the importance of boosting trade and investment within the framework of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), to which both countries belong. He noted Egypt's readiness—through both government and private sector initiatives—to contribute to Comoros' development goals. The two presidents also discussed pressing regional and international issues, including the conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, developments in the Horn of Africa, maritime security in the Red Sea, and efforts to combat terrorism. They jointly emphasized the need to revitalize the role of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in promoting peace and cooperation in these areas. Broader topics such as poverty reduction, debt relief, and climate change were also on the agenda. Both leaders called for unified African positions in international forums to ensure fair representation for the continent and to better reflect the aspirations of its peoples for stability and sustainable development.

Sisi, Comorian President Discuss Deepening Bilateral Co-op

Sisi welcomed his Comorian counterpart to his second home, Egypt, expressing his deep appreciation for the historic relations between the two countries and the strong bonds that serve as a solid foundation for future cooperation. During a joint press conference held at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace, Sisi stated that he had conducted fruitful talks with President Ghazali, during which they reviewed the frameworks of existing cooperation and agreed on the importance of enhancing collaboration across various sectors, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, and investment. Sisi affirmed the Egyptian government's and Egyptian companies' readiness to support the development plans of the Comoros, and reiterated Egypt's full willingness to cooperate with the Comorian side in fields such as healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, and strengthening bilateral trade exchange. Egypt and Comoros reach deal to facilitate entry for medical travelers: President Assoumani
FILE - Comorian President Azali Assoumani CAIRO – 4 May 2025: Egypt and Comoros have reached an agreement to facilitate entry for citizens of either country seeking medical treatment, Comorian President Azali Assoumani stated on Sunday. Speaking in a press conference with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at Cairo's Al-Ittihadiya Palace on Sunday, Assoumani pointed out to various agreements and MoUs signed between Egypt and Comoros today, aimed at enhancing their cooperation. He emphasized the shared commitment between the two countries to developing and strengthening bilateral relations. Both leaders have emphasized joint action to enhance the two countries' economic and commercial relations and boost investments. Sisi underlined the keenness to leverage Egyptian expertise in implementing development projects in African countries across various economic sectors. 'I affirmed the Egyptian government's and companies' willingness to support development plans in Comoros, particularly the Emerging Comoros Plan for 2030,' Sisi said. Sisi expressed Egypt's full readiness to cooperate with Comoros in various fields, particularly health, education, tourism, fisheries, energy, and infrastructure. Sisi said they discussed issues related to the African Union as well as the situations in Gaza and Sudan and counterterrorism efforts. He highlighted the significant number of Comorian students at Al-Azhar University, stating that Al-Azhar was instrumental in training the former Grand mufti of Comoros, whom he considered a spiritual father. He affirmed Comoros' continued political support for Egypt in various international forums, particularly on major issues of global concern. With his country celebrating the 50th independence anniversary, Assoumani expressed gratitude to Egypt for its support in all matters related to their sovereignty. He emphasized the two countries' shared commitment to developing and strengthening bilateral relations. He affirmed Comoros' ambition to become an emerging nation by 2030, noting that Egypt possesses the expertise and capabilities to support them in all fields. The Comorian president commended Egypt's leading efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing his rejection of the genocide against the Palestinian people and all plans aimed at displacing Palestinians from their land.

Abdelatty, Mbae discuss Horn of Africa, Red Sea developments
Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Comorian counterpart, Mohamed Mbae, held a telephone call on Saturday, discussing bilateral relations and regional issues, Egypt's foreign ministry said. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates, Minister Abdelatty stressed Egypt's firm commitment to supporting Comoros, highlighting the deep historical relations between the two countries. He expressed Egypt's readiness to provide technical expertise and training across various sectors, linking this to Egypt's focus on supporting development efforts in fellow African nations. Abdelatty emphasised the importance of exploring ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as education, health, and capacity building. He noted the need to continue joint work to activate existing cooperation mechanisms and expand collaboration into new fields serving mutual interests. The call also covered several regional issues of common concern, primarily recent developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. Coordination within the African Union and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on various files of shared interest was also discussed. For his part, Comoros' Foreign Minister Mbae expressed his country's appreciation for what he described as Egypt's pivotal role in supporting continental issues. He affirmed Comoros' aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations with Egypt at all levels and to benefit from Egyptian expertise in supporting national development programmes in Comoros, the statement added.
