Abdelatty, Mbae discuss Horn of Africa, Red Sea developments

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Comorian counterpart, Mohamed Mbae, held a telephone call on Saturday, discussing bilateral relations and regional issues, Egypt's foreign ministry said.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates, Minister Abdelatty stressed Egypt's firm commitment to supporting Comoros, highlighting the deep historical relations between the two countries.
He expressed Egypt's readiness to provide technical expertise and training across various sectors, linking this to Egypt's focus on supporting development efforts in fellow African nations.
Abdelatty emphasised the importance of exploring ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as education, health, and capacity building. He noted the need to continue joint work to activate existing cooperation mechanisms and expand collaboration into new fields serving mutual interests.
The call also covered several regional issues of common concern, primarily recent developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. Coordination within the African Union and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on various files of shared interest was also discussed.
For his part, Comoros' Foreign Minister Mbae expressed his country's appreciation for what he described as Egypt's pivotal role in supporting continental issues. He affirmed Comoros' aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations with Egypt at all levels and to benefit from Egyptian expertise in supporting national development programmes in Comoros, the statement added.

Minister of Public Enterprises heads to Angola for US–Africa Business Summit

Mohamed El-Shimy, Egypt's Minister of Public Enterprises Sector, has arrived in Luanda, Angola, to participate in the 17th edition of the US–Africa Business Summit, taking place from June 22 to 25. Egypt's participation in the high-level summit underscores its commitment to advancing economic partnerships across the African continent and with the United States. The event is attended by several African heads of state and government, ministers, senior US government officials, and top business executives from both regions. During his visit, Minister El-Shimy is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with key government officials and representatives of leading international companies and institutions. These meetings aim to explore avenues for deeper economic cooperation and to promote investment opportunities in Egypt's public enterprise sector. Organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, the US–Africa Business Summit is one of the most prominent annual forums focused on strengthening US–Africa economic ties. Held alternately in Africa and the United States, the summit brings together CEOs, investors, and policymakers to foster dialogue and business development. Egypt FM urges ceasefire in talks with Arab counterparts - Foreign Affairs

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty stressed in phone calls with some of his counterparts on Sunday the importance of securing a ceasefire and halting Israel-Iran military escalation. According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty held separate phone calls with Jordanian FM Ayman Safadi, Saudi FM Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, and Bahraini FM Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The phone discussions touched on the rapid regional developments, particularly the Israel-Iran military escalation and the grave threat and serious repercussions it poses to regional peace and security. During the calls, the Egyptian FM affirmed that political and diplomatic solutions are the only way to avoid expanding the conflict in ways that threaten regional peace and security. Abdelatty and Safadi emphasized the importance of de-escalation, restraint, and prioritising dialogue, warning of the danger of the region slipping into more chaos and tensions. The Egyptian, Saudi, and Bahraini ministers also stressed the need to prioritise political and diplomatic solutions as the only way out of the current crisis and to preserve regional security and stability. The Arab top diplomats further reaffirmed the need to respect state sovereignty, international law, and the principles of the United Nations Charter. Earlier Sunday, the US launched airstrikes targeting three major Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and the Isfahan complex, a move which many observers viewed as supporting Israel's ongoing war against Iran, which began on 13 June.
