'He's the best player in the league and a no. 1 priority': Oilers GM puts Connor McDavid at center of future plans

Oilers GM Stan Bowman calls Connor McDavid the team's top priority (Image via: Getty Images) Connor McDavid's contract situation is the hottest topic in Edmonton and the Oilers aren't leaving any room for doubt: re-signing their superstar captain is the franchise's top priority. With McDavid entering the final season of his eight-year, $100 million deal, the Oilers are gearing up to do whatever it takes to keep the face of the franchise in Edmonton long-term. Oilers GM Stan Bowman : 'Connor is our leader and no. 1 priority' There's no understating the impact Connor McDavid has had on the Edmonton Oilers—and the NHL as a whole. As he enters the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract, general manager Stan Bowman wasted no time addressing the elephant in the room. 'Connor's the best player in the League, the most important player in the League, he's our captain, he's our leader, and certainly he's a No. 1 priority,' Bowman said. 'He's earned the right for us to be respectful of his time.' McDavid, 28, will be eligible to sign an extension on July 1. If he doesn't, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in 2026—a scenario that would send shockwaves through the hockey world. But the Oilers aren't panicking. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 34歳以上の男性が今年最高のPCゲームと絶賛!今すぐ無料でダウンロード BuzzDaily Winners ゲームをプレイ Undo Instead, they're focused on building a winning culture that aligns with what McDavid values most: a Stanley Cup. The three-time Hart Trophy winner and five-time Art Ross Trophy recipient delivered another phenomenal season, putting up 100 points in 67 games and leading all players with 33 points in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Yet again, he proved he's not just elite—he's in a class of his own. Despite back-to-back Stanley Cup Final losses to the Florida Panthers, McDavid hasn't lost focus. According to Bowman, winning—not money or accolades—is his driving force. The Oilers already extended Leon Draisaitl on an eight-year, $112 million deal, and McDavid's next contract is expected to become the richest in NHL history. But for Edmonton, this goes beyond numbers. It's about legacy, loyalty, and finally bringing the Stanley Cup back to Oil Country. Iran-Israel conflict: Hyderabadis in Tehran on edge as tensions flare, Indian embassy warns citizens to leave immediately

As tensions between Iran and Israel escalate, Hyderabadis in Iran are growing increasingly anxious. While some have fled Tehran for nearby cities like Qom, about 150 km away, in their own cars, many others remain, awaiting further developments. The panic followed an advisory issued by the Indian embassy on Tuesday, urging Indians in Iran with access to transportation to leave immediately. Over the years, many from Hyderabad have migrated to Iran for work in sectors such as dry fruits, pharma, mining, and petrochemicals. Mannan Raza, a resident of Hyderabad's Banjara Hills who owns a construction company in Tehran's Punak area, drove to Qom on Tuesday along with his wife to stay at his brother's house. 'The situation is very bad. Unlike before, people are genuinely worried now because the war is intensifying every day. Air attacks are frequent, like firecrackers,' he told TOI after reaching around evening. Raza added that Qom is currently overcrowded due to a large influx of people fleeing Tehran. 'People prefer coming to Qom than Karaj, which is just 40 km from Tehran, because they believe it is safer. Hotels are not only costly but also full. My wife and I were lucky to stay with my brother, but many are struggling to find shelter,' Raza said. Indian authorities began evacuating students on Tuesday, with over 100 reportedly transported via Armenia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 34歳以上の男性が今年最高のPCゲームと絶賛!今すぐ無料でダウンロード BuzzDaily Winners ゲームをプレイ Undo 'So far, only students are being evacuated, not other residents,' Raza said. Many Indians, particularly Shias from Hyderabad, also travel to Iran for religious pilgrimages. Meanwhile, some have opted to stay in Tehran. Kulsum Fatima Hussain, also from Banjara Hills, has lived in Tehran's Yosef Abad for over a decade since her marriage. 'A week-long holiday has been declared. People are still visiting shops and supermarkets, but schools will remain shut until September,' she said. Back in Hyderabad, families are growing increasingly anxious. 'We are unable to contact my cousin's son, who studies medicine in Tehran. We're hoping authorities will evacuate them,' said a relative, requesting anonymity.

Ground-level ozone at 5-yr high; south, northwest Delhi worst hit

New Delhi: The city experienced its highest ozone levels in five years this summer, according to a study by the Centre for Science and Environment. The eight-hour rolling average of the gas exceeded safe standards for 14.2 hours daily, increasing from 12 hours in previous summers. The analysis revealed that south and northwest Delhi were most affected, showing the broadest geographical spread of ozone exceedance since 2018. The study indicated that ground-level ozone surpassed national safety standards throughout the 92-day summer period from March 1 to May 31, with breaches occurring on 83 days. The established eight-hour standard for O3 is 100 micrograms per cubic metre. "Ground-level ozone pollution remained consistently high across the region, with the maximum concentration exceeding 100 microgram per cubic metre on each of the 92 days between March 1 and May 31, highlighting the persistent and widespread nature of the problem," the study said. "The worst day in terms of spatial spread was April 28, when 32 out of 58 monitoring stations across the region reported ozone levels above the safe limit. The highest regional intensity was recorded on April 13, with the Delhi-NCR average reaching 135." Ozone forms through chemical reactions involving nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide, which are released by vehicles, power plants and factories. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 34歳以上の男性が今年最高のPCゲームと絶賛!今すぐ無料でダウンロード BuzzDaily Winners ゲームをプレイ Undo These substances react in sunlight to create ground-level ozone. This highly reactive gas poses serious health risks. It can inflame and damage the airways, increase susceptibility to infections and worsen respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. CSE analysed summer trends from 2021 to 2025 (until May 31) using CPCB's official online portal, Central Control Room for Air Quality Management. The findings showed Nehru Nagar breached the safe level on all 92 days, followed by Najafgarh (82 days) and Okhla Phase-II (81 days). Only six locations, Anand Vihar, IHBAS, ITO, Shadipur, Narela and Knowledge Park in Greater Noida, maintained levels below the standard. On several days this summer, therefore, ozone was the lead pollutant instead of particulate matter in the daily air quality index. "Out of 18 days between May 25 and June 11, ozone was the lead pollutant on 12," said Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, CSE. The study also said there was no system to address the ozone problem under the Graded Response Action Plan. "While the policy attention is nearly fully focused on particulate pollution, co-control of toxic gases from vehicles, industry and combustion sources that contribute to ozone formation in the air is neglected," Roychowdhury pointed out, calling for measures to curb ozone.

How one major mistake in 'The Last of Us' season 2 sets up trouble for season 3

There's been a lot of discussion around the casting of Ellie in HBO's The Last of Us. Some viewers feel it's hard to see Bella Ramsey in the role for Season 2 because she still looks very young and small. In the video game, Ellie is older and tougher by this point in the story. But on the show, Ramsey still appears much the same as she did in Season 1. (Spoilers ahead.) While some may doubt Bella Ramsey's casting, her acting proves otherwise. In Season 2, she delivered the emotional depth needed—whether reacting to Joel's death or in softer moments like the museum flashback. Even in Season 1, her portrayal of Ellie closely matched the video game version and was consistently strong. Season 2's portrayal of Ellie falls short not because of the acting, but due to the writing. The creators seem to have softened her character to make the story less dark, which ended up weakening her arc. As a result, the show missed a key goal—getting viewers to both question Ellie's choices and still hope she succeeds. Instead of showing Ellie's descent into a darker, more vengeful version of herself, the show watered down her arc. She came across as immature and reckless, rather than driven and conflicted. Her lack of real commitment to her mission made it hard to root for her, and even before Joel's death, she felt more like a moody teen than the hardened survivor she was meant to be. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 中年以降であれば、このゲームは必須です。 BuzzDaily Winners ゲームをプレイ Undo In Season 2, the show leans too heavily on comic relief, turning Ellie into a wisecracking teen and sidelining her intelligence and skills. She seems less capable than she was in Season 1, often relying on others like Dina and Jessie to guide or save her. Dina pushes her forward, reminds her of practical needs, while Jessie steps in to keep her out of danger. Ellie rarely takes control or makes tough decisions on her own, and this version of her feels far from the hardened, competent survivor fans expected. Even Ellie's violent moments feel toned down. Key scenes from the game—like stabbing Mel or using her knife on enemies—are replaced with softer alternatives, such as shooting by mistake or using a chokehold. She doesn't kill a dog, likely to avoid alienating viewers. Most of her kills leave her shaken instead of fueling her revenge. Aside from Nora, Ellie's violence lacks conviction, and her motivation seems to come and go depending on the scene. This inconsistency makes her character arc feel confusing and emotionally disconnected. When Dina reveals her pregnancy, Ellie responds with a light joke instead of showing frustration or concern, making her seem emotionally detached. Unlike in the game, where Dina supports Ellie after learning about Joel's past, the show version pulls away—likely because Ellie lacks the conviction or urgency to justify a revenge mission in the first place. Season 2 should have shown Ellie's evolution from a spirited survivor to a driven, ruthless avenger, using emotional flashbacks to highlight her lost innocence. Instead, it portrays her as unsure and ineffective, lacking both the grit and agency needed for her revenge arc—relying too much on others to guide and protect her. Season 2 should have centered on Ellie's descent into darkness—her 'breaking bad' moment. Like Walter White in Breaking Bad, she needed to become a cold, calculating figure we rooted for despite her actions. Instead of that complex transformation, we got a version of Ellie that lacked direction and edge. With stronger writing and a few more episodes, the show could have delivered the powerful, morally gray arc her character deserved. With Season 2 behind us, Season 3 will focus on Abby's story. Unfortunately, it's too late to fix the missed opportunity with Ellie's arc, which is disappointing. The show also weakened Abby's storyline by revealing her motivations too early. Abby's journey should serve as the opposite of Ellie's—while Ellie's path is one of falling into darkness, Abby's should be about redemption, showing the person behind the monster and reflecting Ellie's story in reverse. With Ellie's story so confused, it's hard to see how Season 3 can deliver the needed emotional impact. Without these two characters' stories mirroring each other and converging, Season 4 may struggle to reach the powerful climax fans expect. This is even before considering the decision to move the game's final scene up to Season 2, Episode 6, which further complicates the narrative.
