Why drafting Josh Allen too early in Fantasy Football 2025 could hurt overall value
Josh Allen's fantasy value demands a closer look (Image via: Getty Images) The 2025 NFL season is approaching fast, and fantasy football drafts are already underway. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is fresh off an MVP season and continues to be a hot name on draft boards. But while Allen's real-world talent is unquestioned, fantasy experts caution managers not to reach for him too early this year. Josh Allen is an elite QB but is he a must-draft in Round 2? There's no denying Josh Allen's value on the field. He's a dual-threat quarterback with elite arm strength, red-zone efficiency, and the ability to turn broken plays into big gains. In real football, he's a dream. But in fantasy football, numbers tell a different story and experts say it's time to hit the brakes. According to Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport, there's reason to pause before making Allen an early fantasy selection. Despite Allen's MVP campaign, he didn't even reach 4,000 passing yards in 2024—the first time since 2019. His fantasy value was salvaged by over 500 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, allowing him to finish fourth among quarterbacks in fantasy scoring. Currently, Allen is being drafted in the middle of Round 2 in many 2025 fantasy drafts. That's a critical zone typically dominated by elite running backs or wide receivers—positions that lack the depth found at quarterback. Using such high draft capital on a quarterback, even one as dynamic as Allen, often means missing out on game-changing talent at more scarce positions. Fantasy football success hinges on value and depth. While Allen is capable of putting up monster weeks, quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, or a fully healthy Joe Burrow offer similar upside at a significantly lower draft cost. Waiting for one of those options allows for a stronger overall roster and minimizes risk if a player underperforms or misses time. Josh Allen remains one of the NFL's most thrilling and consistent quarterbacks, but the fantasy game requires careful calculation. Drafting him too early could result in an unbalanced roster and missed chances at long-term success. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. Watch Episode 1 here

James Cook's Bills RB Room Given Top-10 Ranking
James Cook's Bills RB Room Given Top-10 Ranking originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Is the development of James Cook and the arrival of Ray Davis enough to make the Buffalo Bills' running back room one of the best in the league? Advertisement According to Pro Football Focus, the answer is a resounding yes. PFF's Dalton Wasserman placed Buffalo's running back unit eighth overall in his 2025 NFL running back unit rankings. "Buffalo has put together a solid group of running backs who fill a variety of roles," Wasserman said. "The workhorse is James Cook, who earned an outstanding 88.6 PFF rushing grade last season while leading the league in rushing touchdowns. "Rookie Ray Davis got 120 carries of his own and earned a solid 73.1 PFF rushing grade while breaking 30 tackles. Ty Johnson serves as a reliable pass catcher, ranking 10th among qualifiers in PFF receiving grade in 2024." Advertisement Plenty of teams around the league employ a "by-committee" approach to their running backs. Buffalo's ability to do so - while still somehow showcasing Cook - shows the organization's depth. Cook - under contract but involved in a contract dispute - is running as the lead back in 2025. He led the league in rushing touchdowns last season to go along with his second straight 1,000-yard season. Davis and Johnson are nowhere near as talented as Cook, but each adds a skill set that can bolster Buffalo's offense. The organization may not have a top player like Saquon Barkley or Christian McCaffrey, but their trio can be just as devastating to opposing defenses. Advertisement It's why PFF is so high on Buffalo's running back room. Bills' Josh Allen Reveals Humbling Take on MVP Meaning
Bills' Josh Allen Reveals Humbling Take on MVP Meaning originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For most quarterbacks, winning an MVP award can be the highlight of their career. It's an honor not to be taken lightly. Advertisement Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has a different idea on how to treat his reigning MVP award status. In an exclusive Sports Illustrated interview, Allen talked about the honor of winning the award … but how it meant little compared to his overall legacy and goals. "I still didn't win a Super Bowl. Didn't win a ring, and that is the only goal. It's the only focus that I've ever had going into this league," said Allen. "The one positive, I will say, about winning an MVP means that your team is in a good position. "You're making the playoffs, you're playing well, and you're doing whatever you can to help your team win football games." Advertisement Allen's response to his MVP trophy is pretty humble stuff. He's become one of the best quarterbacks in the sport, but he knows his legacy will be tied directly to whether he can get the Bills to the promised land. In order to do that, Allen will likely need to find a way to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite having regular-season success against their bitter rivals, Allen and the Bills have yet to defeat the Chiefs in the playoffs. Making matters worse, Kansas City has won three Super Bowls during that span. Allen's MVP season was impressive. Despite the added popularity the award can bring, the Bills' franchise signal-caller is expecting more from himself in 2025 - and more from his team. Bills Must Figure Out Running Back Contract Concerns
Bills Must Figure Out Running Back Contract Concerns originally appeared on Athlon Sports. James Cook's contract feud remains a significant issue for the Buffalo Bills. The league leader in rushing touchdowns last season has consistently pushed to be paid over $15 million annually. Buffalo doesn't have the necessary cap space to give him that kind of contract. Advertisement Or, better said, Buffalo doesn't want to make that sort of room. While Cook did arrive for mandatory minicamp last week, he is not guaranteed to attend training camp. That is why Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox believes that re-signing Cook must be Buffalo's top priority for the rest of the offseason. "The Buffalo Bills were only a few plays away from reaching the Super Bowl in January, so much of the offseason has been about maintaining continuity. Ascending running back James Cook should be considered a long-term piece of the puzzle," Knox wrote. "Cook is extension-eligible and has been vocal about his desire for a new deal, although that didn't keep him away from mandatory minicamp." Advertisement Besides MVP quarterback Josh Allen, Cook remains Buffalo's top weapon on offense. Without a clear answer for the team's No. 1 receiver, having a quality, skilled player who can make big plays is essential in any offense. That is what makes Cook such an essential part of Buffalo's offense. That's why he believes the Bills owe him an extension matching him being a top running back in the game, even if it means paying him along the same lines as a Christian McCaffrey or Saquon Barkley. Time will tell if Buffalo can find a way to make a deal happen … but the feud - if not solved - threatens to be a lingering issue. Bills Analyst Issues Major Prediction For Breakout Receiver
Bills Analyst Issues Major Prediction For Breakout Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills were so high on wide receiver Keon Coleman in last year's draft that they allowed one of their biggest rivals to nab a top player to get him. Advertisement Buffalo will always be tied to allowing Kansas City to trade up for Texas receiver Xavier Worthy. From now on, both Worthy and Coleman will be tied together to determine which team made the better pick in last year's draft. After the 2024 season, Worthy appeared to be the better player. That could be changing in 2025. Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox thinks the Bills need to get Coleman more involved in the offense in the 2025 season, allowing the second-year receiver to break out. "Head coach Sean McDermott and offensive coordinator Joe Brady, meanwhile, need to set up a plan for second-year receiver Keon Coleman," Knox wrote. "The 2024 second-round pick was expected to become Josh Allen's new go-to wideout, but his rookie numbers (556 yards, 4 TDs) left plenty to be desired. Advertisement "It's imperative that the Bills figure out how to highlight Coleman's strengths and create a rapport between him and Allen." Buffalo has a quality receiver in Khalil Shakir, who has earned Allen's trust. The problem is that Coleman is a high draft pick. If the Bills can't get quality production out of him, it will be seen as a poor allocation of resources. It's why a prediction of more is sound … and it's why the Bills are expecting big things from Coleman this season. … maybe big enough to counter the positive things Worthy is doing with the Chiefs..
