Police searching for driver who hit woman, left her to die near Bethel

Delaware State Police are searching for a driver who hit a 78-year-old Seaford woman and drove off, leaving the woman to die on the side of the road.
Police have also released an image of a vehicle style they believe might have been involved in the incident: an unknown color 2010-2013 Buick Lacrosse with damage to the passenger's side front and windshield.
The crash happened a little before 9 p.m. on June 15 in the 8000 block of Bethel Rd. near Bethel. The woman, Cheryl Hiett of Seaford, wasn't found for almost 12 hours, state police said.
Troopers were called to the road about 6:15 a.m. on June 16. There, they found Hiett dead.
Detectives learned that the night before, an "unknown vehicle" was driving east on Bethel Road, west of Oneals Road.

That's when Hiett walked into the east lane and "into the vehicle's path of travel," police said. The car hit her, then fled, police said.

Delaware State Police identified David Edwards, 64, as the victim of a fatal June 17 motorcycle crash in Camden. Edwards, a Camden-Wyoming resident, was traveling east on Westville Road, approaching Big Ditch Road, police said. According to police, Edwards crashed attempting to navigate a curve in the road, driving off the south edge into a ditch. He was then ejected from the motorcycle. A 46-year-old motorcyclist was killed on June 16 after his motorcycle collided with a car near Magnolia, Delaware State Police said. Police have not named the Felton-area motorist. The incident occurred about 8 p.m. as the motorcyclist was northbound on Walnut Shade Road approaching Douglas Fir Road. This is not a four-way stop. That's when the motorcyclist's Kawasaki hit the front of the Toyota. The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota driver, a 30-year-old Felton man, was not injured, police said.
