Pilot who died in Ahmedabad plane crash was actor Vikrant Massey's family friend: 'Pains even more now'

Time of India13-06-2025

Actor
Vikrant Massey
recently took to social media to clarify a widespread misconception following the devastating Air India plane crash on Thursday. The actor clarified that the late
Clive Kunder
, one of the victims of the crash, was not his cousin but rather a close family acquaintance. He urged the public and the media to give the grieving Kunder family the space and privacy they need to mourn their profound loss without added speculation or misinformation.
'Dear friends in the media and elsewhere, the unfortunately deceased Mr. Clive Kunder was not my cousin. The Kunders are our family friends. Request no more speculations and let the family and loved ones grieve in peace,' clarified the '12th Fail' star on his Instagram Stories.
The confusion originated from one of Vikrant's earlier Instagram posts. In that post, he mentioned that Clive Kunder, the son of Clifford Kunder—whom he referred to as his uncle—had lost his life in the tragic aviation disaster. Due to the wording, many believed Clive was Vikrant's direct cousin. However, later that evening, Vikrant issued a follow-up statement online, clarifying that Clive was not a blood relative but the child of a family friend. He expressed sorrow over the incident and firmly requested that people stop spreading incorrect information and allow the family to grieve in peace.

Earlier that same day, Vikrant had responded to the crash by sharing a heartfelt note on Instagram, expressing his sadness and shock. In that note, he initially identified Clive as the son of his uncle, which led to widespread confusion regarding their relationship. It was only later that Vikrant corrected the misinterpretation, explaining that the Kunder family has long been close to his own, but they are not related by blood.
The tragic crash took place shortly after an Air India flight departed from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, headed toward London. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 individuals, including 12 members of the flight crew. The catastrophe occurred just seconds after Captain Sumeet Sabharwal issued a Mayday distress signal. According to reports, only one passenger made it out alive, making this one of the deadliest incidents in recent aviation history.
In response to the disaster, the
Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau
(AAIB) has launched an official probe. The inquiry will follow international guidelines as laid out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed this development through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, Vikrant Massey is preparing for the release of his upcoming romantic film
Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan
, where he stars opposite debutante Shanaya Kapoor. Directed by Santosh Singh, the film is inspired by Ruskin Bond's short story The Eyes Have It and promises to be an emotional and visual treat for audiences.
