Savannah hip hop artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Antwan Patton, one half of the hip hop duo Outkast, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made April 27th by the Rock Hall. Patton, professionally known as 'Big Boi,' and André Benjamin, professionally knows as André 3000, join fellow inductees Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden and The White Stripes.
Patton was born in Savannah and spent the first half of his childhood there. He attended Herschel V. Jenkins High School before moving to Atlanta, where he met Benjamin. They formed Outkast in 1992 and signed with the regionally based record label LaFace Records. Outkast released six studio albums and won six Grammy Awards.
To be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, artists' first albums must have been released 25 years earlier and they must be considered musical influences on other artists. The length and depth of their career and their body of work is taken into consideration. And they must have a musical style that's considered innovative with a superior style and technique.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website describes Outkast as a musical act that 'redefined hip-hop with their genre-blending sound and relentless innovation, proving the 'Dirty South' could compete with rap music's long-standing East and West Coast scenes. Outkast's distinctive sound – a blend of funk, soul, and jazz with introspective storytelling – helped them become one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful hip-hop groups of all-time. With massive tracks like 'Hey Ya!,' Outkast challenged every norm, defied every genre, and pushed every boundary.'
The Rock Hall goes on to say, 'The legacy of Outkast is vividly apparent in all pockets of contemporary hitmakers – the introspection of Kendrick Lamar, the afro-futurism of Janelle Monáe, the individuality of Tyler, the Creator – and an entire generation of ATL protégés including T.I., Ludacris, Future, and Migos.'
The 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set for Saturday, November 8 in Los Angeles. It will air live on Disney+.

Legendary musician boycotting Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction
Legendary bassist Carol Kaye will not attend her own induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The 90-year-old musician, who was part of a group of session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew, said Wednesday she will not be attending this year's ceremony. 'People have been asking: NO I won't be there,' Kaye wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post. 'I am declining the RRHOF awards show (and Denny Tedesco process)... because it wasn't something that reflects the work that Studio Musicians do and did in the golden era of the 1960s Recording Hits.' According to Rolling Stone, Kaye was featured in Tedesco's 2008 documentary, 'The Wrecking Crew,' about the collective that recorded songs with The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, The Monkees and more in the 1960s and '70s. However, she objected to the Wrecking Crew name, which came from drummer Hal Blaine. Kaye said she started as a jazz guitarist who 'got into recording good music' in the '50s with artists like Sam Cooke. She once replaced a bassist who failed to show for a studio session and soon found it 'easy... to invent good bass lines' — but still gave credit to the group of collaborators. 'You are always part of a TEAM, not a solo artist at all….there were always 350-400 Studio Musicians (AFM Local 47 Hollywood) working in the busy 1960s, and called that ONLY ….since 1930s, I was never a 'wrecker' at all….that's a terrible insulting name,' she wrote. 'I refuse to be part of a process that is something else rather than what I believe in, for others' benefit and not reflecting on the truth – we all enjoyed working with EACH OTHER.' The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes constitute this year's honorees in the 'performer' category, while Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will also be inducted and recognized with the 'Musical Influence Award.' The ceremony will stream live on Disney+ and be available on Hulu the next day. Beyoncé honoured Paul McCartney at final London show in a custom 'Blackbird' bodysuit
Beyoncé has said goodbye to London in true British fashion. On Monday evening, the Grammy-winning artist completed her six-day Cowboy Carter tour run at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The record-breaking London takeover, with six consecutive sold-out nights and over 275,000 tickets sold, saw the star in an assortment of flashy and unforgettable Western-themed looks. For the final night, Beyoncé paid homage to British icons—performing her cover of Blackbird (written by musical legend Paul McCartney and recorded by the Beatles) in a custom outfit inspired by the song's title and created by none other than McCartney's fashion designer daughter, Stella. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Stella McCartney (@stellamccartney) The custom Stella McCartney look consisted of a white tee-style bodysuit with two beaded blackbirds on the chest. Bey tucked her scoop-neck suit into a pair of belted, hand-crafted crystal fringe chaps that allowed her to sparkle all throughout her opening set. Then, she accessorised the look with complementing crystal necklaces and dangling diamond earrings. Following the final show, Beyoncé shared a heart-warming post about her Blackbird look on Instagram, where she discussed her 'unforgettable' experience in London.'Thank you, Sir Paul McCartney, for writing one of the best songs ever made. Every time I sing it I feel so honoured,' Beyoncé gushed. 'And it is a full circle moment to wear your beautiful daughter's design. Thank you, London, for creating unforgettable memories for me and my family.'The singer also hinted that fans might be in store for another tour following Cowboy Carter. 'Holla at 'ya when I come on tour again,' she ended the caption, leading fans to rejoice in the comments.
