Three Lashkar militants killed in Shopian behind recent terror activities: Army

Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) A day after three militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and its shadow outfit "The Resistance Front" were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir's Shopian district, the Army said the trio were actively involved in recent terror activities in the region.
The militants — Shahid Kuttay, Adnan Shafi Dar, and Ehsan ul Haq Sheikh — all residents of Shopian, were killed during an encounter in the upper reaches of Keller on Tuesday. Officials identified Kuttay as the operational commander of LeT in South Kashmir.
According to the Army, the operation was launched based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants in the Keller forest. A joint team of the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF was involved in the operation, which culminated in the elimination of the three 'hardcore terrorists,' including the LeT/TRF commander.
'The three were actively involved in recent terror activities in the region. Recoveries from the operation include AK series rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, grenades and other war-like stores,' the Army said in a statement.
It added that the operation was a result of excellent coordination between security forces and intelligence agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Army stated: 'We remain unwavering in our mission to eliminate terrorism. Every attempt to disturb peace will be met with decisive and unrelenting force.'
Defence officials said that in the wake of the Pahalgam massacre, security forces have significantly intensified operations against LeT and other terror outfits. Vulnerable routes and areas in South Kashmir have been re-dominated and put under heightened surveillance.
'For the past several days, we had continuous inputs about terrorist movement in Shopian. On the night of May 12, their presence was confirmed in the upper reaches of Keller,' a defence official said.
A joint operation was swiftly initiated, and on the morning of May 13, around 9 AM, troops spotted movement of three armed militants.
'When challenged, they opened indiscriminate fire. Our troops retaliated effectively, resulting in the neutralisation of all three,' the official said, adding the trio were responsible for multiple terrorist incidents in the region.

Pakistan to hold National Security Committee meeting after US strikes on Iran

The Pakistan government will hold an emergency meeting of its top security body on Monday to discuss the regional situation after the US airstrikes on Iran's three nuclear facilities. The National Security Committee (NSC) is the highest forum for security deliberations in the country, and its meeting is chaired by the Prime Minister. The country's top civil and military leadership, including Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, are part of the committee. Sources in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) told the Dawn newspaper that the NSC meeting will be held on Monday evening. Munir, who recently returned from a trip to the US, will brief the committee on the details of his meeting with US President Donald Trump. The US strikes on Iran's three nuclear sites – Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz – came a day after Pakistan's announcement to recommend Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Pakistan condemned the US strikes in Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Iran and expressed condolences on the loss of lives.

US law enforcement warns of terrorist attacks risk after strikes on Iran

Washington, June 23 (UNI) The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warned of increased risks of terrorist attacks in the next two months related to the US Air Force strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. "The likelihood of violent extremists in the Homeland independently mobilizing to violence in response to the conflict would likely increase if Iranian leadership issued a religious ruling calling for retaliatory violence against targets in the Homeland," the department said in a bulletin. It noted that, according to US law enforcement, many terrorist attacks in the United States were motivated by anti-Semitism. "The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict could contribute to US-based individuals plotting additional attacks," the document says. The DHS also warned of growing risks of cyber threats. "The ongoing Iran conflict is causing a heightened threat environment in the United States. Low-level cyber attacks against US networks by pro-Iranian hacktivists are likely, and cyber actors affiliated with the Iranian government may conduct attacks against US networks," the bulletin says. The alert is in effect for two months, until September 22, it says. UNI SPUTNIK ARN

Egyptian FM postpones his two-day India visit, amid escalating tensions in Middle East

New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has postponed his planned two-day visit to India, which was to begin on Monday, amid the rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East. This is the second time this year that the Egyptian foreign minister is postponing his India visit. In February, Egyptian FM Abdelatty had postponed his visit to India. Badr Abelatty was expected to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during his latest New Delhi visit. FM Badr Adbelatty was in Turkey on Saturday to attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting and held talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi there, to discuss the diplomatic efforts being undertaken to de-escalate the current conflict and achieve a ceasefire. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said he had 'obliterated' Iran's main nuclear sites in strikes overnight, joining an Israeli assault in a major new escalation of conflict in the Middle East, even as Tehran vowed to defend itself. Iran called the US attack a grave violation of international law that would have 'everlasting consequences'. 'Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest and people,' wrote Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a social media post, noting that the Israeli and US attacks on Iran came despite ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran.
