What Really Led To Karisma Kapoor And Sunjay Kapur's Explosive Divorce After 13 Years
Last Updated:
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur's marriage ended in a bitter public split with allegations of abuse and financial disputes.
Karisma Kapoor, one of the most iconic actresses of the 1990s, was known for her powerhouse performances in films like Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Biwi No. 1, and Zubeidaa. Hailed as 'inimitable," Karisma was not just a top-paid actor of her era but also a formidable force in Bollywood. However, behind her professional success lay a turbulent personal life marked by a difficult marriage with businessman Sunjay Kapur.
Born into the illustrious Kapoor clan, Karisma was raised by her mother Babita, along with sister Kareena Kapoor, following Babita's separation from Randhir Kapoor. Despite being born into cinema royalty, Karisma often spoke about not enjoying the so-called privileges of being a Kapoor daughter.
In 2003, Karisma married Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. But their union quickly unraveled, eventually leading to a highly public and bitter divorce battle in 2014. While the couple initially filed for divorce through mutual consent, the case escalated into an ugly legal fight filled with serious allegations.
In her divorce petition, Karisma accused Sunjay of physical and mental abuse. One of the most disturbing claims was that during their honeymoon, Sunjay allegedly forced her to sleep with his friends. Karisma also claimed that during her pregnancy, Sunjay allegedly asked his mother to slap her because she couldn't fit into a dress his mother-in-law wanted her to wear.
Karisma's father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, had disapproved of the match from the start. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he once said, 'Sunjay is a third-class man… We don't need to run after anyone's money. Our talent is enough to support us for life."
What started as a consensual divorce turned contentious when Karisma alleged that Sunjay was unwilling to provide adequate financial support for their children. This led her to file a domestic violence complaint against both Sunjay and his mother. The police subsequently launched an investigation into the matter.
Eventually, the couple reached a legal settlement and were granted divorce in 2016. Reports indicated that Karisma received a house in Khar and Sunjay agreed to invest Rs 14 crore in bonds for their children, offering approximately Rs 10 lakh in monthly interest.
Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, in London due to a heart attack, reportedly triggered by an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match.

Sitaare Zameen Par BOC Day 1: Aamir Khan's movie witnesses slow start, earns only Rs...
After a lot of anticipation, Aamir Khan's film Sitaare Zameen Par has finally hit the box office on June 20. Featuring Aamir Khan and neurodivergent children as the leads of the film, Sitaare Zameen Par has received rave reviews. Netizens say that the movie is a joyful ride of emotions and will give you the feeling of a warm hug. After receiving positive reviews from both critics and audiences, the film has made a promising start at the box office. Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection Day 1 As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par has an estimated collection of around Rs. 8.77 crore India net on its first day in all languages. Sitaare Zameen Par, which is being called the spiritual sequel of Aamir Khan's 2007 hit film Taare Zameen Par, witnessed a theatre occupancy of 17.73% in Hindi in the morning of the release day. On the other hand, the Aamir Khan starrer had its highest occupancy in the Jaipur region at 29.33%. While the opening of the film was expected to earn more, it fell short and did not even cross the numbers of Aamir's last release Laal Singh Chaddha. The 2022 release had earned Rs. 11.7 crore on its opening day. In comparison, the Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar opened with a significantly higher figure of Rs. 26 crore. Helmed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par features 10 real-life inspirations including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. The movie also stars Genelia D'Souza. Sitaare Zameen Par Review review of Sitaare Zameen Par states, 'Overall, Sitaare Zameen Par is a true example of how one should deal with sensitive topics such as Down syndrome. While some try to make a mockery of such subjects, this film does not just keep its focus on the characters but also gives a life lesson. This film is a typical Aamir Khan-style film that perfectly balances humour and emotions and does not feel like a forced sequel at all; instead, it raises the bar high for its remarkable legacy.'

Kuberaa Box Office Day 1: Dhanush's Film Opens Lower Than Raayan, Earns Rs 13 Crore
Last Updated: Kuberaa Box Office Day 1: Kuberaa collected Rs 12.98 cr on day 1, falling short of Dhanush's previous theatrical release Raayan, which had an opening day collection of Rs 15.7 cr. Kuberaa Box Office Collection Day 1: Dhanush-starrer Kuberaa hit theatres on Friday and marked one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Directed by Sekhar Kammula and co-starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, the film opened to largely positive reviews. Despite that, the film's box office opening has been modest compared to expectations. As per early estimates by Kuberaa collected Rs 12.98 crore on day one, falling short of Dhanush's previous theatrical release Raayan, which had an opening day collection of Rs 15.7 crore. The Telugu version of Kuberaa recorded an overall occupancy of 50.19% on Friday, with morning shows at 38.94%, afternoon shows at 54.58%, and evening shows peaking at 57.04%. Despite the slightly underwhelming opening, the film is expected to gain momentum over the weekend owing to strong word of mouth. In the Hindi belt, however, it faces competition from Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par. Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under Amigos Creations, Kuberaa showcases Dhanush in the role of a beggar, a performance that has earned him critical praise for its depth and transformation. On Friday, Dhanush was spotted attending the first day, first show of the film with his son Linga at Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai. The actor was visibly emotional as fans cheered loudly, scaled theatre walls, and tried to catch a glimpse of him. Videos of him acknowledging the crowd with folded hands and emotional expressions have gone viral. His security team had to intervene to manage the crowd and ensure his safe exit. Interestingly, Kuberaa was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA certificate, but only after 19 scenes were trimmed. The total duration was reduced by 13 minutes and 41 seconds from the original cut. As Kuberaa heads into the weekend, all eyes are on its Saturday and Sunday performance to determine whether it can maintain its hold and close the gap with Dhanush's previous box office records.
