Karisma 'Fought' With Randhir Kapoor To Enter Bollywood? Actress Said 'My Father Checks...'

Last Updated: Karisma's entry into Bollywood was surrounded by controversy, particularly the widely circulated claim that Kapoor girls were not allowed to act in films. Karisma Kapoor, one of the leading stars of the 1990s, has always stood out in Bollywood for her powerful performances in films like Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Biwi No. 1, and Zubeidaa. Known for her versatility and charm, Karisma became one of the most sought-after actresses of her generation. But her entry into Bollywood was surrounded by controversy, particularly the widely circulated claim that Kapoor girls were not allowed to act in films. In a throwback interview on the WildFilmsIndia channel, Karisma addressed these longstanding rumours and shared what really happened behind the scenes when she entered the film industry. 'People just think this… this whole thing was propaganda that was made when I joined," she said. 'They said her family didn't want it, that she's the first Kapoor girl, and Kapoor girls weren't allowed to act. Which is not true at all." Karisma clarified that her aunts, Randhir Kapoor's sisters, chose not to join the film industry out of personal preference, not because of any family-imposed restrictions. 'Everybody asks me, why didn't your father's sisters become actresses? I think, out of choice. They were not interested," she explained. She also responded to those who pointed out that her mother, Babita, quit acting after marriage. 'They say, oh, your mother got married and didn't work after that. I think it was because she wanted to have a family and be at home. That's the only reason." Karisma revealed that, contrary to popular belief, her father Randhir Kapoor was supportive of her career. 'My dad loves the idea that I'm here. He checks my work and tells me what he likes or doesn't like." Most recently, Karisma was in the news following the death of her ex-husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur. He reportedly died of a heart attack in London, caused by an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match. First Published:

What Really Led To Karisma Kapoor And Sunjay Kapur's Explosive Divorce After 13 Years

Last Updated: Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur's marriage ended in a bitter public split with allegations of abuse and financial disputes. Karisma Kapoor, one of the most iconic actresses of the 1990s, was known for her powerhouse performances in films like Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Biwi No. 1, and Zubeidaa. Hailed as 'inimitable," Karisma was not just a top-paid actor of her era but also a formidable force in Bollywood. However, behind her professional success lay a turbulent personal life marked by a difficult marriage with businessman Sunjay Kapur. Born into the illustrious Kapoor clan, Karisma was raised by her mother Babita, along with sister Kareena Kapoor, following Babita's separation from Randhir Kapoor. Despite being born into cinema royalty, Karisma often spoke about not enjoying the so-called privileges of being a Kapoor daughter. In 2003, Karisma married Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. But their union quickly unraveled, eventually leading to a highly public and bitter divorce battle in 2014. While the couple initially filed for divorce through mutual consent, the case escalated into an ugly legal fight filled with serious allegations. In her divorce petition, Karisma accused Sunjay of physical and mental abuse. One of the most disturbing claims was that during their honeymoon, Sunjay allegedly forced her to sleep with his friends. Karisma also claimed that during her pregnancy, Sunjay allegedly asked his mother to slap her because she couldn't fit into a dress his mother-in-law wanted her to wear. Karisma's father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, had disapproved of the match from the start. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he once said, 'Sunjay is a third-class man… We don't need to run after anyone's money. Our talent is enough to support us for life." What started as a consensual divorce turned contentious when Karisma alleged that Sunjay was unwilling to provide adequate financial support for their children. This led her to file a domestic violence complaint against both Sunjay and his mother. The police subsequently launched an investigation into the matter. Eventually, the couple reached a legal settlement and were granted divorce in 2016. Reports indicated that Karisma received a house in Khar and Sunjay agreed to invest Rs 14 crore in bonds for their children, offering approximately Rs 10 lakh in monthly interest. Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, in London due to a heart attack, reportedly triggered by an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match. First Published:

Despite all the opposition, Zubeidaa Begum carved out space for her dreams and emotions. This unwavering determination was the most remarkable quality of her personality. The Raja did not want to take Zubeidaa along, but she was adamant. It is said that the king himself was very fond of flying planes. But the night before the accident, he could not sleep properly. The plane crash happened while going for an election campaign It was the ill-fated morning of 26 January, 1952. The plane in which Raja and Zubeidaa flew crashed in Godwar, Rajasthan.
