K-P utilises Rs120b ADP budget for current fiscal
K-P Chief Minister's Advisor on Finance and Interprovincial Coordination Muzzammil Aslam told the K-P Assembly that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government not only successfully completed the Annual Development Program (ADP) worth Rs120 billion for the ongoing fiscal but also incurred development expenditures exceeding Rs150 billion.
Responding to questions during the provincial assembly's budget session, the CM's aide said the current government, prioritizing public welfare, introduced financial reforms, curtailed expenditures, increased revenues, and succeeded in presenting a surplus budget — a first in the province's history. He further noted that the government had secured Rs150 billion in a debt fund to gradually pay off the province's debts.
The finance advisor emphasized the need for the federal government to fulfill the province's financial rights, adding that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had forcefully and effectively advocated for the protection of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's constitutional and financial rights in relation to the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
As a result of these efforts, positive outcomes are emerging, and the federal government is now preparing to announce the 11th NFC Award, said Aslam.
Drawing attention to the challenges in the education sector, he highlighted that although the out-of-school children situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was better than in other provinces, 30% of children in the province were still out of school — a concerning reality. In light of this, the government is declaring an "education emergency" to ensure that every child has access to education, the K-P CM advisor said.

Australian shares hit 2-week low as miners, gold stocks fall; Fed holds rate The financials sub-index slipped 0.3%, with the 'Big Four' banks declining between 0.1% and 0.3%. Energy stocks traded largely flat as investors assessed the potential impact of Middle East tensions on global oil supply. Despite the subdued session, the sector has advanced 5.3% so far this week and is on track for its fourth straight weekly gain. Woodside Energy rose 0.7% while smaller rival Santos added 0.4%. 90% allocated to rural Sindh: MQM-P
The fourth day of general debate on provincial budget continued in the Sindh Assembly with Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed in the chair on Thursday. The attendance of government and opposition members in the House was extremely low, indicating a general lack of interest in the budget debate. Rehan Akram of MQM-P stated that in its seventeenth budget, the Sindh government once again allocated 90 per cent of the schemes to rural Sindh. He alleged that the Anti-Corruption Department has become a department of corruption. He claimed that the Sindh government has effectively turned corruption into an industry. He also highlighted the water crisis and sewerage problems in his constituency. Environment Adviser Dost Muhammad Rahimoon said, planting more trees is need of the hour for environmental improvement. MQM-P's Muhammad Daniyal said, our proposals were not included in the budget in the pre-budget session of the Sindh Assembly. There is no drinking water in the city and the mayor claims to wash the streets with 'rose water'. Provincial Minister for Labour Shahid Thaheem drew attention of the house towards severe load shedding in the province where the power utilities increase outage times by two hours if complaints are lodged. He mentioned that although gas has been discovered near Shahdadpur, gas is not supplyied to the area. He demanded an increase in hospital funding. Mahesh Kumar of MQM-P said the budget lacks schemes that would allow the minority community to play a role. He demanded interest-free loans for minorities to help them start businesses. Dr Fauzia Hameed called the budget a budget of destruction. She said it may benefit a few families, but offers nothing for the public. She emphasised that Sindh's resources should be spent on its people. She questioned why the CM holds so many ministries, asking whether there are no other capable individuals. Jameel Soomro of PPP said, opposition always terms the budget anti-people, even though many taxes have been abolished in the current budget. Provincial Minister for Women's Development Shaheena Sher Ali said small loans will be given to women for small businesses. PPP's Ismail Rahoo pointed out water shortages and other public issues in his constituency. PTI's Rehan Bandukda mentioned water crisis in his constituency and said that Karachi has become the world's fourth worst city to live in. Najam Mirza of MQM-P said that discussion must be focused on the budget instead of praising the leadership. He described the budget as salt on the wounds of the people. Special Assistant for Public Health Engineering Saleem Baloch said, water scarcity is a critical issue. Last year, 29 schemes were completed, and 34 new ones have been added this year. PTI's Rehan Rajput said in his speech that the Sindh government proudly presented a budget with a Rs38 billion deficit. He claimed that 80 per cent of the budget is spent on just a few departments, which is wrong. PPP's Mumtaz Jakhrani said that a large number of teachers have been recruited in Sindh, and that NICVD centres are present at every divisional headquarters. He said Rescue 1122 now operates from Karachi to Kashmore and that no one serves the people like PPP. Senior minister Sharjeel Memon told the Deputy Speaker that a few words spoken during the debate on Thursday should not have been said on the floor. He requested that remarks about chief minister should be removed. MQM's Muhammad Rashid Khilji praised Sharjeel Memon's work against drug trafficking and questioned why the Excise Ministry was taken from him. The Sindh Assembly session was adjourned until 10am on Friday.

Punjab sports-related initiatives highlighted
LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the Punjab government aims to engage youth in positive activities through sports and sports-related initiatives and youth empowerment plans included in Punjab's Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025–26. Speaking at a news conference here Thursday, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar stated that a budget of Rs7.6 billion has been allocated for the Sports and Youth Affairs Department this year. He emphasized that the Punjab government's top priority is to provide opportunities to the youth and ensure the development of modern sports infrastructure. He informed the media that under last year's 'Khelta Punjab' programme, more than 120,000 athletes participated. This year, the initiative is being expanded further with talent hunt events being organized across districts, and significant work is already underway to rehabilitate and improve existing sports infrastructure. The Provincial Minister also shared that the first phase of the Chief Minister's Internship Programme has been successfully completed, benefiting 6,000 youth with a monthly stipend of Rs25,000. In Phase Two, the number of interns will be increased to 10,000, and the stipend will be raised to Rs60,000 per month. He further revealed that for the first time in the province's history, a Sports Endowment Fund has been established, under which athletes are being supported with funds of Rs30,000, Rs50,000, and Rs70,000. A Self-Sustaining System is also being introduced to address salary-related issues of sports department employees on a permanent basis, he added. He also highlighted that under the up-gradation of Punjab Stadium, Nishtar Park, Lahore, increasing seating capacity from 6,000 to 10,000. Scheme of Construction of a 102-room hotel/hostel at Nishtar Park Sports Complex at a cost of Rs800 million also approved. He also briefed about schemes of development of an Indoor Sports Arena for table tennis, snooker, board games, indoor rowing, revival of the International Boxing Arena, construction of a baseball ground in Lahore, rehabilitation and construction of Velodrome, Swimming Pool, Indoor Volleyball Complex, construction of Padel Tennis Courts in Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot while multipurpose Sports Facilities will be established along Rahim Yar Khan, Muridke, and Narowal Road. The Minister emphasized that the Punjab Government is working to revive traditional sports like Kabaddi, reconnecting the youth with cultural roots. He said that more projects will be included in the upcoming fiscal year and equal sports opportunities will be provided in every district of the province. Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar concluded by stating, 'Our goal is not just to build infrastructure but to ensure its sustainable and autonomous management.'
