ALEA launches investigation into officer-involved shooting
BULLOCK COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that took place on Tuesday, May 6.
ALEA says at approximately 12:01 p.m. on May 6, an ALEA trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Infinity G37 on Alabama Highway 51 in Bullock County. The driver of the Infinity, later identified as Jemmie Earl Hicks Jr., 33, refused to stop and a chase ensued.
Hicks eventually came to a stop on Bullock County 106 near Flower Garden Road where he then exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. Police say the foot pursuit led into a deadly force encounter between Hicks and the ALEA Trooper.
Over the course of the incident, Hicks was injured by gunfire and the trooper rendered first aid. However, Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene.
ALEA says additional details are not available at this time, while the investigation is ongoing. The findings will be turned over to the Bullock County District Attorney's office.

State Rep. Steven Xiarhos, R-West Barnstable, was involved in a hit-and-run on Route 3 north near Exit 40 in Braintree on June 18, according to the state police. Xiarhos was not seriously injured, although his car had significant damage, according to his statement posted on Facebook. Around 10 a.m., a 31-year-old man from Quincy driving a black Infinity G37 crashed into the rear of Xiarhos' car, according to statements from police and the office for Xiarhos. The driver then left the scene. State police were able to locate the car, with damages consistent to the crash, later that day on Willard Street in Quincy, according to the state police. The driver was allegedly showing signs of impairment and was arrested by state police. The man faces charges of leaving the scene of property damage, driving under the influence (drugs), negligent operation and driving with a suspended license. Young mother thrown from boat leaves behind grieving husband, 4 children after tragedy in Alabama bayou
A young family in Alabama is grieving after a devastating boat accident led to the death of 27-year-old Brittney Sherman. Sherman, of Wilmer, Alabama, was boating in Bayou Sara near Saraland in Mobile County on June 15 along with her husband, 30-year-old Cody Sherman, and the couple's four children. Despite the swift arrival of emergency crews, search efforts were hampered by the bayou's murky waters, making it difficult to locate Sherman in the aftermath of the crash.
