Yatnal lashes out at BJP leadership in Karnataka

Vijayapura, June 23 (UNI) In a blistering attack on the BJP's state leadership, suspended BJP leader and senior MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Monday hinted at launching or joining a new political outfit, citing deepening disillusionment with the party's direction and alleged dynastic politics. Addressing reporters, Yatnal declared, "I am fighting this battle alone. One day, this isolation will become my strength — and I will become the Chief Minister of Karnataka. That could happen with BJP's support or even through a new party." Strongly opposing the elevation of BY Vijayendra, son of veteran leader BS Yediyurappa, Yatnal warned that pushing forward one family would spell doom for the BJP in Karnataka. "If Vijayendra continues to be projected, I will seriously reconsider my position. We will not follow a party that runs on dynasty," he said. Referring to Bihar politics, he said, "Nitish Kumar has just 30 MLAs and BJP has 80 — yet he's CM. I may have only 14, but with the right situation, I too can become CM." In a scathing critique of the Congress leadership, Yatnal alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar's caste census politics was hollow and divisive. "Their claim of caste justice is a lie. Real social justice is about giving benefits to poor Hindus, Dalits — not vote-bank appeasement like 15% reservation for Muslims," he said. He also rejected any speculation of warming up to Congress, saying his ideology was firmly rooted in Hindutva. "Our politics must be Hindu-centric. Karnataka needs a system built on Hindutva values — not appeasement, not fake caste narratives," he said. Yatnal further alleged massive corruption among Karnataka's political elite. "Leaders are building assets in Dubai, Muscat, and Singapore while farmers and their children suffer. Go see the 4-star hotels in Shivamogga — who owns them? The people know," he remarked, in a veiled swipe at the Yediyurappa family. He also revealed that several senior leaders from both the BJP and Congress had reached out to him, suggesting the formation of a new party. "People say, forget BJP, forget Congress — let's start something new. But I won't take such a bold decision rashly," he clarified. Reiterating his loyalty to the BJP at the national level, Yatnal said he wants Narendra Modi to return as Prime Minister and Yogi Adityanath to succeed him. However, he asserted that "if Vijayendra remains the face of BJP in Karnataka, we will not be part of it." On not attending Vijayendra's wedding, he said, "I did not attend. That is my principle. I have no contact with them." He warned: "If this continues, BJP's future in Karnataka will be in jeopardy. We will then chart our own course — with a new party, a new vision, and a Hindutva foundation." UNI BDN PRS

Maoist threat triggers US alert: Northern Telangana, rural Andhra Pradesh marked ‘high-risk'; advisory cites Operation Kagar

HYDERABAD: The United States department of state has issued a security alert cautioning American citizens against travelling to northern Telangana and rural parts of Andhra Pradesh, citing heightened Maoist extremist activity. The warning is part of a broader advisory reissued, urging travellers to "exercise increased caution" across India, while flagging specific high-risk regions. While India remains at level 2 (exercise increased caution) overall, the advisory highlighted areas with active Maoist insurgent groups - referred to as 'Naxalites'. These include parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar as well as rural parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. "Maoist extremist groups are active across a large region from eastern Maharashtra and northern Telangana through western West Bengal," the advisory stated. The warning gains relevance amid intensified anti-Maoist operations like Operation Kagar, conducted along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, which has witnessed recent skirmishes between Maoists and Indian security forces. "Attacks against Indian govt officers continue sporadically in rural belts bordering Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha," it warned. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Confidence packed. Beyond Maoist-related concerns, the advisory flagged broader issues of violent crime and terrorism in India. It urged visitors to remain vigilant at public places, tourist spots, markets, transportation hubs, and govt buildings. "Violent crimes, including sexual assault, have occurred at tourist locations. Terrorist groups may attack with little or no warning," the alert read. The US department of state reiterated that rape is among the fastest-growing crimes in India, highlighting personal safety risks even outside Maoist-hit areas.

Malappuram, June 23 (UNI) Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Shoukath was leading with a margin of 11,035 votes against CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate M Swaraj in Nilambur Assembly by-election at the end of the 15th round of counting held at Chungathara Marthoma HSS, on Monday. The UDF secured 66,071 votes, LDF 55,036 votes, Independent and former Nilambur MLA PV Anvar- 16,965 votes and BJP-led NDA candidate Mohan George 6,957 votes each. The UDF had scored a clean sweep in all the local bodies. UDF workers carried out a victory procession at Chungathara near Nilambur early in the day. Aryadan shoukath is the son of late veteran Congress leader Aryadan Mohammed, who won for the eighth time from Nilambur constituency until 2011. That was Shoukath's maiden fight for the Assembly elections. "This is the people's mandate against the LDF government's neglect of the Nilambur people," Shoukath told media. The Nilambur by-election was necessitated following the resignation of LDF-backed Independent MLA PV Anvar in January 2024. He defected from LDF and joined All India Trinamool Congress and became the state convenor of the party. LDF-backed Independent MLA Anvar represented Nilambur assembly constituency for 8.5 years (2016- 2024) . UNI AK PRS
