in England and Wales to choose to end their lives in a historic vote in Parliament that takes it a step nearer to becoming law.
Members of Parliament voted 314-291 to back the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill following an impassioned and respectful debate.
The bill now goes to the unelected
House of Lords
, which can amend or delay policy, though it can't overrule the lower chamber.

According to recently released 2023 testing figures, India has again been ranked first worldwide for the highest number of dope offenders. Out of 5606 urine and blood samples collected, 214 adverse analytical findings (AAFs) were reported, putting the country's positivity rate for prohibited substances at 3.8 per cent. These developments have led authorities to revive the 'National Anti-Doping Bill 2022' with an aim to stamp out the doping menace. An amended version of the bill is set to be introduced in an upcoming session of Parliament. Sources indicate that the sports ministry, after taking on board Wada's suggestions, is moving forward with crucial changes in the bill. Notably, the plan to create a statutory 'National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports' comprising a chairman and two members has been scrapped due to concerns it would have led to increased govt interference. Aside from India's 214 AAFs, other countries logged 105 (France), 99 (Russia), 66 (USA), 60 (China), and 57 (Germany) dope cases. Of the 204,809 tests conducted globally in 2023, 1,820 were positive for banned substances, with India accounting for over 11% of these – an unwanted record. Indian nationals come back from Iran (Image credits: ANI) NEW DELHI: Ministry of external affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Saturday that so far 517 Indian nationals have returned to India from Iran under the initiative 'Operation Sindhu. ' In a post on X, Jaiswal confirmed that a special flight from Turkmenistan's Ashgabat arrived in New Delhi early in the morning. "Operation Sindhu continues. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in New Delhi at 0300 hrs on 21st June, bringing Indians from Iran home. With this, so far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu," the post read. — MEAIndia (@MEAIndia) As tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate, more Indian citizens are being brought back home under Operation Sindhu, with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) coordinating efforts on the ground.
