TOWN OF RIPON – A town of Ripon home is uninhabitable and one cat has perished after a fire Thursday morning.
A 911 call reported smoke inside a residence at W13819 Skyline Circle at around 10:24 a.m. June 19.
The caller stated black smoke was beginning to fill the home, a news release from Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's deputies and Ripon Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, emergency responders located the source of the smoke and contained the fire before it could spread.

The sheriff's office said a preliminary investigation suggests the fire started in a workshop in the basement. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature, stemming from a failure in a tool that was plugged in.
The property owners were not home during the incident. One cat inside the residence succumbed to smoke inhalation while other pets were safely rescued by emergency responders, the sheriff's office said.

Although the fire was confined to the basement, the rest of home suffered significant smoke and soot damage and is uninhabitable.
The sheriff's office said while the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature, it is still under investigation.

The height vehicle was used to extinguish the blaze as the firefighter could be seen spraying water into the flat while being elevated by the appliance while the whole apartment was engulfed in flames. The area, including Muirhouse View, was taped off by emergency services as several police cars could also be seen. It is understood residents were evacuated as a group of people could be seen standing behind a cordon watching on. The SFRS confirmed hero firefighters battled the blaze for three hours as they left at around 2am on Friday, June 20. A spokesperson said: "We received reports of a fire at a flat on Gunnet Court, at Muirhouse View, at 22.50 hours on Thursday, June 20. We mobilised five appliances and a height vehicle. "The fire on a third floor flat was extinguished and the last appliances left the scene at 2am. Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were also in attendance." It is currently not known if there were any casualties. The Scottish Ambulance Service was approached for comment. Rural Waupun town board chairman arrested on suspicion of mistreating an animal in dog's death

TOWN OF CHESTER – Chester Town Board Chairman Richard Van Buren has been arrested on suspicion of mistreating an animal. Dodge County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest in a news release June 19, noting the arrest stems from an incident in town of Chester in rural Waupun that resulted in the death of a golden retriever. The sheriff's office said it would release no further details about the incident. In its release, the sheriff's office said 'there was significant public outcry on this case. However, the sheriff would like the community to know that the sheriff's office does not make enforcement decisions based on outcry or pressure from the community, as that would be inappropriate and unethical.' The sheriff's office said it 'will take threats seriously and make arrests as appropriate if they are deemed to be in violation of the law. This includes threats which are made via social media.' The release also aimed to dispel 'grossly inaccurate and inflammatory' social media posts, stating no other people have been identified as being party to the crime of mistreating an animal in the case.
