TOWN OF RIPON – A town of Ripon home is uninhabitable and one cat has perished after a fire Thursday morning. A 911 call reported smoke inside a residence at W13819 Skyline Circle at around 10:24 a.m. June 19. The caller stated black smoke was beginning to fill the home, a news release from Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies and Ripon Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, emergency responders located the source of the smoke and contained the fire before it could spread. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature, stemming from a failure in a tool that was plugged in. The property owners were not home during the incident. One cat inside the residence succumbed to smoke inhalation while other pets were safely rescued by emergency responders, the sheriff's office said. Although the fire was confined to the basement, the rest of home suffered significant smoke and soot damage and is uninhabitable. The sheriff's office said while the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature, it is still under investigation. An easyJet flight was forced to make an emergency landing after passengers reported a smell of smoke in the cabin. The plane was travelling from Cyprus to Bristol Airport but diverted to Izmir on Sunday (15 June), landing just an hour and 20 minutes after take-off. The Airbus A320 had taken off from Paphos and was cruising at around 36,000ft when the alarm was raised about smoke on board. According to information from AirLive, the plane 'suddenly turned around to the west of Turkey and started its descent'. The pilot made the emergency decision to divert and land in Turkey. An easyJet spokesperson confirmed the flight from Paphos to Bristol was diverted to Izmir due to a technical issue that led to a smell of smoke on board. They said the aircraft landed safely and was met by emergency services as a precaution. Passengers disembarked normally and were given hotel accommodation and meals, the spokesperson added. A replacement aircraft will complete the journey to Bristol later today, the said. A statement from easyJet said: 'We can confirm that flight EZY2902 from Paphos to Bristol diverted to Izmir due to a technical issue which resulted in a smoke smell onboard. "The aircraft landed safely in Izmir and was met by emergency services as a routine and precautionary measure only. All passengers disembarked as normal into the terminal and were provided with hotel accommodation and meals where required. Passengers will continue to Bristol on a replacement aircraft later today. "The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers' guidelines. 'We would like to thank customers for their understanding and apologise for the inconvenience caused.'

An aircraft carrying pilgrims from Saudi had smoke coming from its wheels as it landed in India's Lucknow airport on Sunday, June 15. The Saudi Airlines aircraft landed at Lucknow airport from Jeddah, when smoke was detected from the wheels of the plane. The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team was immediately dispatched and rushed to the spot. Along with the Saudi team, the ARFF was able to contain the smoke and damage to the aircraft was averted. The passengers were deboarded safely and there was no impact on airport operations, airport officials told ANI in a statement. The aircraft is still currently present at Lucknow airport after the incident.
