YOUR interior design choices might be making your guests cringe when they walk through the door, an interior designer has warned.
Alessandra from The Virtual Edit is urging Brits to ditch several homeware trends if they want to avoid turning their homes into graveyards of cliches and forgotten fads.

It's important to avoid having a dated home because outdated design choices can make your space feel uninspired, uncomfortable or less welcoming
As your tastes and lifestyle evolve, interior experts agree that so should your home; a dated space can hold you back from fully expressing yourself.
Interior designer Alessandra, who co-runs The Virtual Edit studio, shared her expert advice on what to ditch in a now-viral TikTok video…
Millennial Grey

Once adored by many in the 2010s, coating your walls and furniture in endless shades of grey has become a tired cliche, signalling a lack of creativity to many interior enthusiasts.
Alessandra explained: 'It was grey everything – grey sofas, grey curtains, grey walls. Stainless steel accents, grey artwork.
'Mirrors everywhere and layers upon layers of grey textures – faux fur, velvet, crushed velvet. It was a lot.'

The idea is to create a cohesive and uniform look in a room - but Alessandra believes these sets have the opposite effect and instead date your home.
She said: 'We wanted everything to be so cohesive. Everything had the same hardware, exactly that same wood, in all exactly the same colours.
'Everything was built to be easy and work in harmony with one another.'
Slogan-heavy artwork
Slogan artwork combines impactful text with graphic elements to convey a message or idea, often with a bold or artistic flair.
It's typically used in posters, prints or advertisements to make a statement. But as far as Alessandra's concerned, most of it makes a very dated statement.
She cited barn signs, posters with the 'house rules' and labels in each room as the main offenders making your home unfashionable.
The recognisable 'Live Laugh Love' slogan was the one to kick this trend off in the Noughties, she added.
Using the 'Big Light'
In most British homes, we have a series of lamps and then a main overhead lighting system, dubbed the 'big light'.
Having that 'big light' on is a surefire way to date your interiors, Alessandra warned.
She said: 'This is a hill that I will die on and one of my worst interior trends.
'One of the worst is spot lights in places that should be ambient lighting, such as living rooms, bedrooms.
'The only places spot lights should be are bathrooms and kitchens.
'Let the fire do the talking, let the alcove lighting do the talking.'

Pop star Dua Lipa returned to London with her Radical Optimism tour, kicking off the first night at Wembley Stadium with a surprise appearance from Jamiroquai lead singer Jay Kay. Amidst a flurry of dance routines, costume changes and confetti canons, the singer made her way through her latest album, Radical Optimism, on Friday night before bringing out the 90s funk band frontman. After taking photos with the front row fans, Lipa returned to the stage to perform These Walls before introducing the song that "started everything". She said: "I want to take it back to the beginning a little bit. This song really kind of changed my life. "This is the song that got me signed and it's the song that started everything and I feel like with weather like this, there is only one song that I could do. This is Hotter Than Hell." The singer again expressed how grateful she was to be performing at Wembley, before introducing someone who really "inspired" her. She said: "Someone who has really been a trailblazer for British music and has really paved the way, I feel so lucky to share the stage with the one and only Jamiroquai!" The frontman of the 90s funk band, Kay, emerged onto the stage, joining Lipa to sing the group's hit song Virtual Insanity. Towards the end of the concert, Lipa returned to the hit songs that prompted her rise to fame, including 2016's Be The One, and her 2017 break-up anthem New Rules. Lipa has several Brit Awards to her name, along with three Grammys and was one of the headline acts at Glastonbury Festival last year. Lipa recently confirmed her engagement to Masters Of The Air actor Callum Turner.

Britpop legend reveals band's unreleased new song is a ‘banger' ahead of first album in 12 years
OCEAN Colour Scene are working on new music which could become the band's first album in 12 years, The Sun can exclusively reveal. The popular British band has five top 10 albums to its name but hasn't put out a full length release since 2013's Painting. In an exclusive interview with The Sun ahead of their performance at Godiva Festival, Cradock, 55, said: "Simon sent me three tunes, that's what I've heard. I've demoed them up to a point where they sound f**king smart. There's one banger, and there's one interesting one. "I mean, we haven't done a record in like 11 years or something, we've been waiting for Simon to write for a long, long time. "The Beatles wrote together for eight years. That sort of puts it into some kind of funk. From where I sit at the moment, it would be fun for us all to do it, I think." Advertisement READ MORE ON BRITPOP The group's back catalogue includes singles The Day We Caught The Train and The Riverboat Song, both of which are currently getting play time during festival season. Having released 10 albums to date, Cradock is content playing Ocean Colour Scene's hits, of which there are many - 17 top 40 singles to be precise. "I don't think it would make a difference to gigs, if I'm honest," he says of a new record. "Because we've kind of got what we are through all the albums that we did back in the day. And when we play festivals, we play the main singles that people know, obviously. "I don't see the point in being self-absorbed when you're doing festivals. You've just got to play the songs that people hopefully will know. And leave it at that. Advertisement Most read in Music Latest "It's different for your own gigs. There's many tunes that we can unearth. I think that those sort of fans would find it interesting." While he wouldn't be drawn on a timescale for a new album, Cradock says the creative process could be very quick if material is right. Paul Weller - Wildwood "If the songs are there, it wouldn't take me long at all to produce it and to get it out." Away from Ocean Colour Scene, Cradock plays guitar for Advertisement Last year's 66 featured in numerous best of 2024 lists and will be followed this July by the Modfather's covers album, Finding El Dorado, featuring the likes of Robert Plant and Noel Gallagher. "It's beautiful, because you can see what a creative force Paul Weller is," he says. "That's just what he does, and he's a force of nature, and he's a force of melody. When you're in the studio, you see things happen just like that, in the instant, the second. And then, by the end of the day, something's happened. "There's not many days that I've seen where people got that disappointed. To be around that creative process is great." Led Zeppelin frontman Plant turned up ready and willing to work like a regular session musician. Advertisement "He was prepared for it, like a working musician, not a rock god," says Cradock. "He was humbling and he played some beautiful harp. Then we asked if he would sing and he sang and it was just like, 'wow'." Mod fan Cradock rejoiced in hearing Plant's tales from his days before superstardom, particularly how he played a role in a notorious battle between two subcultures on the south coast. "He told me he left the Black Country in '64 on his hand-painted Lambretta, went down to Hastings and got involved in the mods and rockers fight and then drove back on his Lambretta. Advertisement "It blew my mind the fact that you've got this sort of rock icon who was originally a mod fighting the rockers. "He was a gentleman and he's a great singer and he's really tuned in to what's happening in that moment you know, a true professional, a G. He's a f***ing G."
