"28 Years Later" is the long-gestating sequel to Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later."
Aaron Taylor-Johnson leads the film alongside newcomer Alfie Williams.
Here's where you might recognize the rest of the cast from.
"28 Years Later" brings the terrifying Rage virus back to the big screen as director Danny Boyle returns to examine postapocalyptic Britain once more.
It's the third film in the franchise following 2007's "28 Weeks Later" and is released on June 20. It picks up decades after the initial outbreak turned the British population into bloodthirsty, sprinting zombies.
"28 Years Later" revolves around the inhabitants of Lindisfarne, an island off the coast of Northumberland. The tide cuts Lindisfarne off from the mainland most of the time, keeping it safe from the infected.
Things get bloody when Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is tasked with taking his son Spike, played by newcomer Alfie Williams, to the world beyond the island.
While Boyle has recruited some talented actors for "28 Years Later," Cillian Murphy won't return to the franchise just yet.
Here's where you've seen the main cast before.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is known for movies like "Kick-Ass," "Kraven the Hunter," and "Nosferatu."
Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Jamie in "28 Years Later," and he takes his son onto the mainland, where they come face-to-face with the infected.
The actor previously starred in the "Kick-Ass" movies, and played superhero Quicksilver in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
He also appeared in the 2014 "Godzilla" reboot and had a supporting role in Christopher Nolan's "Tenet."
Last year he led Sony's "Kraven the Hunter" movie as the titular Marvel villain, before getting his first brush with the horror genre in "Nosferatu."
Jodie Comer made her name in British dramas like "Doctor Foster" and recently starred in movies like "Free Guy" and "The Bikeriders."
Jodie Comer plays Jamie's wife Isla (and Spike's mother) in "28 Years Later."
Comer started her career by starring in buzzy British dramas like "My Mad Fat Diary," "Doctor Foster," and "Killing Eve."
She made the jump to Hollywood in the last five years, and worked with Ryan Reynolds on "Free Guy," and starred opposite Ben Affleck and Adam Driver in Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel."
In 2023, she played Kathy Bauer in "The Bikeriders" with Austin Butler and Tom Hardy.
Ralph Fiennes played Voldemort in "Harry Potter" and led 2024's "Conclave."
Ralph Fiennes plays the mysterious Dr Ian Kelson in "28 Years later." The actor is one of the most famous British stars of the past 30 years, following Oscar-nominated performances in films such as "Schindler's List," "The English Patient," and 2024's "Conclave."
He may be best known for playing Voldemort in the "Harry Potter" franchise, and the new M in Daniel Craig's "James Bond" movies.
Jack O'Connell started out in "Skins" but recently appeared in "Back to Black" and "Sinners."
Jack O'Connell plays Sir Jimmy Crystal in "28 Years Later," but the details of his role are being kept secret and out of the film's marketing material.
He rose to fame thanks to his role as Cook in the teen drama, "Skins," before starring in critically acclaimed British movies and shows including "This Is England," "Eden Lake," and "'71."
He later appeared in Netflix's "Lady Chatterley's Lover" opposite Emma Corrin, and played Amy Winehouse's husband, Blake Felder-Civil, in "Back to Black."
In 2024, O'Connell portrayed the vampire villain, Remmick, in Ryan Coogler's "Sinners."
Erin Kellyman starred in "Solo: A Star Wars Story" and "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier" before "28 Years Later."
Erin Kellyman plays Jimmy Ink in "28 Years Later," but her role has been kept out of the marketing for the film. She also got her start in British TV thanks to shows like "Raised By Wolves" and the "Les Misérables" miniseries.
She started to get more attention after her brief role as rebel pirate Enfys Nest in "Solo: A Star Wars Story," which led to her playing villain Karli Morgenthau in the Marvel series, "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier."
She continued her TV streak in 2022 by starring in Netflix's "Top Boy" and Disney's "Willow."

Danny Boyle admits he couldn't make 'Slumdog Millionaire' today because of cultural appropriation concerns
English director Danny Boyle said that he would not direct "Slumdog Millionaire" if it was made today due to "cultural appropriation" and would rather have a "young Indian filmmaker" make it instead. "We wouldn't be able to make that now. And that's how it should be. It's time to reflect on all that. We have to look at the cultural baggage we carry and the mark that we've left on the world... At the time it felt radical," Boyle told The Guardian. 'Snow White' Becomes Disney's Worst-performing Live-action Remake In Nearly 10 Years Set in India, the movie tells the story of Jamal, a young "slumdog" who's been selected to appear on the country's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", and hopes to also find his childhood lost love, Latika. Throughout his appearance, events from his tumultuous life are shown in flashback and help him answer the questions. Released in 2008, "Slumdog Millionaire" was a hit with audiences and critics, grossing nearly $380 million on a $15 million budget and winning eight Oscars, including Best Picture and Director for Boyle. Denzel Washington Shuts Down Reports He Bailed On Cannes Film Festival After Red Carpet Incident Read On The Fox News App However, despite its success, the movie was controversial for appearing to exploit Indian culture and portray stereotypes of India from a western perspective. Some Indian critics enjoyed the movie, but some Indian artists were underwhelmed, claiming it was "saturated with stereotyped images of India," TIME magazine reported. Boyle added that while the film was in production over 15 years ago, he was sensitive to the exploitative implications of making the movie as a foreigner then. "We made the decision that only a handful of us would go to Mumbai. We'd work with a big Indian crew and try to make a film within the culture. But you're still an outsider. It's still a flawed method. That kind of cultural appropriation might be sanctioned at certain times," Boyle told The Guardian. He went on to say, "But at other times it cannot be. I mean, I'm proud of the film, but you wouldn't even contemplate doing something like that today. It wouldn't even get financed. Even if I was involved, I'd be looking for a young Indian filmmaker to shoot it." Boyle's other notable movies include "Trainspotting," "Steve Jobs," "127 Hours" and the "28 Days Later" horror series. The latest, "28 Years Later", was released on Friday. Boyle nor his representatives immediately responded to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Weekend Box Office: ‘Dragon' Slaying '28 Years Later' And ‘Elio'
Mason Thames in "How to Train Your Dragon." How to Train Your Dragon is projected to top the domestic box office again ahead of newcomers 28 Days Later and Elio. The live-action version of the 2010 animated hit How to Train Your Dragon is projected by Deadline to earn $35.2 million in its second-weekend frame from 4,373 theaters, which is below the trade publication's forecast of $40 million earlier this week. If Deadline's projection holds, it will up Universal Pictures' How to Train Your Dragon's domestic tally to $158.6 million through Sunday. Meanwhile, director Danny Boyle's zombie thriller 28 Years Later is projected by Deadline to gross $28 million to $30 million from 3,444 theaters through Sunday, which is in line with the trade's projections earlier this week. The projected weekend domestic tally is on the low end, however, of Box Office Pro's long-range tracking for 28 Years Later, which on June 7 was forecasting a $30 million to $40 million opening. Released by Sony Pictures Entertainment, 28 Years Later — which stars Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson — had a production budget of $60 million before prints and advertising, Deadline reported. A scene from "Elio." 'Elio' Tops Projections But Has A Lot Of Ground To Make Up Disney and Pixar's animated sci-fi adventure Elio is projected by Deadline to earn $22 million to $24 million from 3,750 million in its opening weekend frame, which is ahead of the trade's $20 million-plus forecast from earlier this week. Still, an opening weekend tally of $24 million domestically falls far short of Box Office Pro's long-range tracking forecast from May 31, which pegged the film to open in the $35 million to $45 million range. Elio a lot of ground to make up in the long term, since the film cost $150 million before its marketing spend, Deadline noted. By contrast, Disney's Pixar's Inside Out 2 opened with $154.2 million from 4,440 North American theaters a little over a year ago. There's also one other newcomer this week — Bride Hard — though it's not opening nearly as wide as 28 Years Later or Elio. Directed by Con Air and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider helmer Simon West, Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp's action comedy Bride Hard is debuting in 2,000 theaters domestically. Bride Hard is the product of Magenta Light Studios, which distributed last summer's indie serial killer thriller Strange Darling. Note: This box office report will be updated throughout the weekend with the most current numbers as they become available. The final numbers for this weekend's box office will be released on Monday.

‘28 Years Later' Ending, Explained And What's Next For The Franchise
Ralph Fiennes in "28 Years Later." Sony Pictures Entertainment Danny Boyle is back with another zombie thriller with 28 Years Later , starring Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. What does the ending of the film mean for the future of the franchise? Boyle, of course, directed 28 Days Later in 2002, a horror thriller that chronicled the outbreak of the 'rage virus' that turned the living into undead zombie maniacs. Boyle returned to executive produce the film's first sequel, 28 Weeks Later, in 2007 and reteamed with his 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland (who directed Civil War and Warfare ) for 28 Years Later . Forbes When Is Zombie Thriller '28 Years Later' Coming To Streaming? By Tim Lammers The film starts at the onset of the rage virus, where in the Scottish Highlands a young boy named Jimmy (Rocco Hayes) is ordered by his mother (Kim Allan) to flee from his home as it is invaded by several of 'the infected.' From there, the film flashes forward 28 years later, where a group of survivors, including Jamie (Taylor-Johnson), Ilsa ( Comer ) and their 11-year-old son, Spike (Alfie Williams), are introduced. The official summary for 28 Years Later reads, 'It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. 'When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers the secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.' Forbes 'Jaws' By The Numbers: 50 Years Of Merch, Media And Money By Tim Lammers Jamie, Ilsa and Spike are inhabitants of the island, which thanks to carefully guarded barrier at their end of the causeway keeps the infected at bay. However, the inhabitants of the island must always be prepared for a breach by the infected, so in a rite of passage, fathers take their pre-teen sons across the causeway to the mainland. It's on the mainland where the infected roam at will, so the fathers and the boys must be vigilant so they don't fall victim to the zombies. At first, the hunt goes well, but complications and harrowing situations with the infected force Jamie and Jimmy to stay a bit longer on the mainland, where some of its mysteries begin to pique Spike's interest. One, as Spike comes to learn, is an area where fires are always burning, which is inhabited by Dr. Kelson (Fiennes), whom Jamie explains is nothing but a madman. Forbes Marvel's 'Thunderbolts*' Gets Digital Streaming Release Date By Tim Lammers Spike, however, is willing to risk his life to seek out Dr. Kelson to help heal an ailing member of the island community— but he will need to face off against an untold number of the infected to do it. Note: Spoilers for '28 Years Later' are discussed in the next section. Since many genre films have end credits or post-credits scenes, viewers will no doubt wonder what happens during the end credits of 28 Years Later . Typically, end-credits or post-credits scenes either tie up loose ends from a scene earlier in the film or they indicate that a sequel is on the way. The interesting thing about 28 Years Later is that yes, there are quick cuts of action from earlier in the film that play all the way through the end credits, ending with a shot of Spike. Forbes '28 Years Later' Reviews: Is There Still Life In Zombie Franchise? By Tim Lammers However, since there are no actual narrative scenes that play out in the end credits of 28 Years Later , you won't miss anthing if you leave as the credits begin to roll. The last scene in the movie before the credits, however, ties up the loose end of what became of young Jimmy from the first scene of the film. The final scene of 28 Years Later finds Spike venturing out on his own because of a personal falling out with his father, Jamie, regarding his relationship with Isla, which won't be spoiled here. As Spike begins to navigate the mainland, he encounters a group of the infected, which he fends off at first until it looks like he will be overrun by the zombie hoard. Suddenly, though, a small group of weapon-wielding survivalists emerge and kill the infected and the leader of the group asks Spike to join them. Forbes Directors Of 'Final Destination Bloodlines,' Now On Streaming, Talk Tony Todd's Emotional Role By Tim Lammers The leader introduces himself as Jimmy (Jack O'Connell), who is the grownup version of the boy from the beginning of the film. Jimmy's identity is confirmed since he is wearing the same crucifix that was given to him by a preacher at the beginning of the film. In the credits, O'Connell is billed as Sir Jimmy Crystal, while his followers each use Jimmy as part of their name. Bearing such names as Jimmy Ink (Erin Kellyman), Jimmy Jimmy (Robert Rhodes) and Jimmima (Emma Laird), it suggests that the survivalists are cult-like followers of Sir Jimmy Crystal. Fans of 28 Years Later won't have to wait for word of a sequel because one has already been announced. Forbes Netflix's 'Ginny & Georgia': What Else Has Georgia Actor Starred In? By Tim Lammers Directed by Nia DaCosta ( Candyman , The Marvels ), written by Alex Garland and produced by Danny Boyle, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is already in production and is set for a 2026 release. O'Connell and Ralph Fiennes will reprise their roles in the film, while more stars are yet to be announced. Cillian Murphy, who starred in 28 Days Later and is an executive producer on 28 Years Later , will have a small role in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and appear more in the third 28 Years Later film as well, Boyle told Variety in an interview on Thursday.
