Not done yet: Titans eyeing late run at finals
Gold Coast stars AJ Brimson and Kieran Foran insist the last-placed side can still make a late run and contend for finals with one proviso.
The Titans, who play Parramatta away on Sunday night, have also had good news on their two State of Origin representatives Moeaki Fotuaika and Tino Fa'asuamalaeaui.
Both middle forwards travelled to Sydney on Saturday to join the team and are set to play the Eels.
Fa'asuamaleaui had a sternum complaint he took into Queensland's 26-24 win over NSW in Perth, but is determined to play Parramatta so long as there is no late complication.
Brimson was man of the match in last week's 28-8 win over Manly playing at fullback. It was easily the Titans' best win of the year with 11 players unavailable - two to Origin and nine injured.
The Titans play North Queensland at home next week and then have the bye.
Brimson said it was vital the side string back-to-back wins together, starting with Parramatta, so as to have a crack at a late run to the finals.
"We are planning on (the Manly win) not being a one-off. We think this is what we have been capable of for weeks," he said.
"You enjoy every win when you are on the bottom. We are trying to put together some wins to finish off the year and see where we can go with it.
"After a short turnaround and as outsiders that was a good team performance.
"We spoke about taking the shackles off because we enjoy playing footy and that was Titans footy … backing ourselves and playing eyes-up footy.
"We are back on track with the way we want to play. We have got Parramatta and we are not getting ahead of ourselves."
Veteran Foran also had his best game of the season at No.6 and said the Titans were capable of figuring in September.
"I still believe we can," he said.
"I've always maintained we've got a great footy side here.
"The first part of the season hasn't gone to plan on the back of some disappointing performances.
"We've got to reset and go again. It's a block at a time. If we do that, you never know.
"We've got to go step by step."
In other Titans team news, boom back-rower David Fifita, named as 18th man, won't return this week after ankle surgery but is close to making a comeback.
Parramatta are also at the bottom of the ladder and will be without halves Dylan Brown (suspended) and Mitchell Moses (injured).
Their places will be taken by debutant Joash Papalii and Dean Hawkins.

No Origin stars, no worries; Panthers in boilover win
An undermanned Penrith have secured a critical 28-18 victory over the high-flying Warriors despite missing their swag of State of Origin stars. The Panthers arrived in Auckland without five stars including Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo due to the travel factor from Origin II in Perth to New Zealand. Feeney dominates Darwin to hit four straight race wins
Broc Feeney has continued his dominance at Hidden Valley Raceway, winning back-to-back races from pole in Darwin to extend his lead at the top of the Supercars standings. The Triple Eight speedster seems unstoppable at the moment. With his third and fourth consecutive race wins on Saturday, his championship gap over teammate Will Brown has opened up to 143 points. In a controlled performance in the day's second race, Feeney held onto the lead from the jump, setting a new Darwin lap record of one minute 7.523 seconds in the process. After pitting last, the 22-year-old used his fresh supersoft tyres to speed away from Anton De Pasquale in the final laps and hold onto a one second lead. De Pasquale's second-place finish was his first podium of the season and Grove Racing rookie Kai Allen picked up his first career podium in third. But Grove could be in for a team penalty after one of his crew members dropped a tyre in pit lane, sparking a post-race investigation from the stewards. De Pasquale and Allen both slipped behind Brodie Kostecki and Matt Payne after pitting later, but jumped back into the top three with fresher tyres. Cam Waters, who started in third, lacked pace and slipped back through the pack before an off on turn one with two laps to go sent him back to 10th. Brown recovered 10 places to finish in seventh after starting in 17th. Feeney's two wins continued his love affair with Hidden Valley, including winning both races in 2024 and another the year earlier. Australian opener Konstas says he has 'come a long way'
Australia's Sam Konstas says he has 'come a long way' since his explosive Test debut against India (Saeed KHAN) Teenage opener Sam Konstas said Saturday he had "come a long way" from his combative debut against India after winning his place back for Australia's opening Test against the West Indies. The 19-year-old made headlines in the Melbourne Boxing Day Test last year when he took on fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to make a blazing debut 60 with a slew of unorthodox shots. Advertisement But he only lasted one more Test before being jettisoned with some pundits seeing his batting as "reckless". With a struggling Marnus Labuschagne dropped for the opening Test in Barbados on June 25 and Steve Smith out nursing an injured finger, Konstas has another chance, confirmed as a certain starter. "The emotions probably got to me with the crowd," Konstas, who has his Test cap No.468 tattooed on his forearm, said of his explosive Boxing Day knock. "I've been trying to focus on a few key areas with my batting coach, and I feel like I've come a long way, so hopefully I can display that in the next few Test matches."
