George Russell wins from pole at Canadian Grand Prix

Great Britain's George Russell captured his first F1 victory of the year, leading from wire-to-wire at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday.
Russell earned the pole position with 'an incredible pole lap' on Saturday, fended off four-time world champion Max Verstappen at the start, and was not threatened the rest of the way.
Russell described his sixth career pole position as 'probably the most exhilarating lap I've ever done in my life because around this circuit you've got to be so committed.'
McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided four laps from the finish, knocking the former out of the race. Piastri managed to hold onto fourth place and extended his lead in the championship (198 points) over Norris to 22 points.
The collision has prompted an investigation by race stewards.
Verstappen, who finished second, is in third position overall (155), while Russell is fourth (136).
Fourteen of 24 races remain on the 2025 circuit.
Russell's Mercedes teammate, 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli, finished third, becoming the third-youngest driver to earn a podium spot.
'It was so stressful but (I'm) super happy,' Antonelli said. 'I had a good start, managed to jump into P3 and just stayed up there at the front.'
Russell earned his fourth career victory and his first since capturing the Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2024.
'I want to thank the team and the factory for their efforts,' said Russell. 'Let's see what happens in the upcoming races but I'm just going to enjoy this one for now!'
The drivers head to Austria for the MSC Cruises Austrian Grand Prix June 27-29.

From scandal to strategy: Kyle Moyer's new role at Arrow McLaren Racing
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Kyle Moyer, one of the three Team Penske executives fired during an Indianapolis 500 scandal, has been hired by Arrow McLaren Racing and will be with the IndyCar team this coming week for a test session at Iowa Speedway. Moyer was hand-selected to join McLaren by team principal Tony Kanaan. The two won the 2004 IndyCar championship together at Andretti Global. Moyer was Kanaan's team manager at the time. At McLaren, Moyer will be the director of competition and assist Scott Harner, who is the director of race operations. He will also replace Kanaan as strategist for Nolan Siegel, freeing Kanaan to work on race day with all three McLaren drivers. Moyer's official start date is June 30. Kanaan said almost the entire industry tried to hire Moyer after his May firing at Penske, but the previous relationship between Moyer and Kanaan gave McLaren the edge. 'Kyle is one of the best strategists in the paddock, so talking about his qualities, not just about him as a human being, he knows a lot about racing,' Kanaan told The Associated Press. 'Kyle probably is one of the top guys of knowledge of IndyCar — he's been around it his entire life. 'And Kyle is a people person, he's that kind of guy that captivates people and people want to work for Kyle,' Kanaan continued. 'At the same time, he is very direct and he will call you out and he makes it so every person I've ever seen working for Kyle wanted to work for Kyle. That's something that I experienced in my career and that is probably the biggest thing. The respect that I have for the guy is unbelievable.' Moyer's popularity was evident when Penske driver Scott McLaughlin lashed out after the trio of firings ahead of the Indy 500. Moyer was let go along with team president Tim Cindric, a 25-year Penske employee, and managing director Ron Ruzewski. Moyer was Penske's general manager of the IndyCar program and the strategist for McLaughlin's car. The firings followed the discovery that the cars of Josef Newgarden and Will Power had illegally modified rear attenuators; Cindric said seams on the safety part had been sealed for aesthetic purposes, but the rulebook clearly stated no alterations could be made to the part. It was the second major technical violation for Penske cars in just over a year and team owner Roger Penske was left with no choice but to fire his top three executives. Penske owns the three-car race team, the IndyCar Series, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500. 'Ultimately, those three guys are friends of mine and have done a tremendous amount in my career to get me to this point,' McLaughlin said in May after the firings. 'I guess you could say there's a sadness from my perspective. At the end of the day I drive for Roger Penske. I respect the decision. I understand the decision. We move forward.' Kanaan said he was shocked that Moyer did not have a non-compete clause and was available to McLaren immediately. He believes Moyer will be a help to Siegel, the 20-year-old in his first full season of IndyCar. Siegel heads into Sunday's race at Road America in Wisconsin ranked 21st in the standings. South Africa's Kyalami circuit says the FIA has approved upgrades which would let it host Formula 1
MIDRAND, South Africa (AP) — Formula 1 could be a step closer to holding a race in Africa again after the owner of the Kyalami circuit in South Africa said Wednesday that the sport's governing body had approved upgrades to the track. A statement from the circuit said that the FIA had 'accepted final design proposals' for work which would upgrade Kyalami from the FIA's Grade 2 to the Grade 1 status required for F1. It added that Kyalami has been given three years to complete the upgrades and that 'selected works' will be carried out only once Kyalami has been selected to host F1. 'Today, we turn the page to a bold new chapter for Kyalami. We are ready for the return of Formula 1 to African soil,' circuit owner Toby Venter said. Kyalami hosted the most recent F1 race in Africa in 1993 but other countries are also interested in bringing the series back to the continent. Rwanda is working on its own project and Morocco reportedly has plans too. Majority of Proline bettors see Oilers forcing Stanley Cup final to seventh game
The majority of Proline bettors expect the Stanley Cup final to go the distance for a second straight year. The Florida Panthers host the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night leading the best-of-seven final three games to two. The Panthers won last year's title, downing the Oilers in seven games. Fifty-two per cent of Proline bettors have Edmonton winning the game, with 74 per cent of wagers on the contest going over 6.5 goals. The most popular player prop get is Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl over 3.5 shots on goal. Florida moved to the brink of clinching its second straight NHL championship with a 5-2 victory Saturday night. A whopping 74 per cent of Proline players had the Oilers winning at home. Fifty-one per cent correctly picked the game to go over 6.5 goals. Edmonton captain Connor McDavid scored as the McDavid over 0.5 goals was contest's most popular player prop. Meanwhile in the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder moved to within a game of their first league title with a 120-109 win over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night. J.J, Spaun captured the U.S. Open on Sunday, the only player in the field to post a score under part in the event.
