BREAKING NEWS McLaren pours cold water on bizarre claim that Donald Trump is set to drive one of its F1 cars in secret Austin test

Daily Mail7 days ago

McLaren has poured cold water on a bizarre report that Donald Trump will drive one of its Formula 1 cars in Austin next week.
News of the rumor began to spread around the F1 paddock on Saturday afternoon when Canal+ claimed the President was set for an unprecedented drive at the Circuit of the Americas, home of the United States Grand Prix.
In a tweet to its 384,000 followers on X, the French broadcaster reported: 'Donald Trump will drive an F1 car next week!
'Info Julien Febreau: The American President will be driving an F1 car in Austin.'
When asked by the Daily Mail at the Canadian Grand Prix, a McLaren spokesperson quickly denied there was any truth to the baffling report.
Canal+'s post was quickly removed after being widely shared around social media.

Europe wants to show it's ready for war. Would anyone show up to fight?

Nice tanks you got there, Europe—got anyone to drive 'em? Such are the taunts the continent's generals might have to endure following the announcement of a splurge in defence spending expected from the NATO summit in The Hague on June 24th-25th. Assuming European governments don't bin their commitments to bigger defence budgets once some kind of peace is agreed to in Ukraine—or Donald Trump leaves the White House—spending on their armed forces will roughly double within a decade. A disproportionate slug of the jump from a 2% of GDP spending target to 3.5% will go towards purchasing equipment. But armies are about people, too. Attracting youngsters to a career that involves getting shot at has never been easy; a bit of forceful nagging (known in military jargon as 'conscription') is already on the cards in some countries. Even dragooning recalcitrant teens into uniform will not solve a problem that is lurking deep in the continent's psyche. Europeans are proud of their peaceful ways. If war breaks out there, will anybody be there to fight it?

Orioles C Adley Rutschman on IL for first time in career

June 21 - Baltimore catcher Adley Rutschman was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain, the Orioles announced Saturday. Rutschman, who had never been on the IL in his career, was held out of the starting lineup on Saturday for the second straight game against the host New York Yankees. The 27-year-old Rutschman tweaked his left side in batting practice and had been nursing what was described as left abdominal tightness. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters that Rutschman underwent an MRI on Saturday morning. Gary Sanchez started behind the plate and Jordan Westburg served as the designated hitter on Saturday for the Orioles. In a corresponding move, Maverick Handley was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Handley, 27, went just 3-for-40 (.075) in 15 MLB appearances this season, his first in the majors. Rutschman, 27, is hitting .227 with eight homers and 20 RBIs in 68 games this season. A two-time All-Star, Rutschman is batting .257 with 60 homers and 221 RBIs in 483 career games since Baltimore selected him with the top overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft. --Field Level Media

BREAKING NEWS LeBron James speaks out on when he will retire from the NBA

LeBron James admitted his days in the NBA are running out as the 40-year-old addressed possible retirement on Saturday. The Lakers legend appeared on stage alongside Tom Brady and Victor Wembanyama at Fanatics Fest in New York City. When asked how much longer he had in the league, James chuckled and pointed at Brady. 'He played until he was 58! 'I don't know, man... I can't play that much further.' LeBron then gestured to Wembanyama. 'The more and more time I play as long as he keeps smacking my f***ing shots into the stands, it's going to make me retire,' he said.
