Disneyland Autotopia Car Crashes Off The Track

One of the cars at the Disneyland Autotopia ride in Anaheim, California went off the track, crashing in the dirt and foliage. We've been on the ride ourselves many times and never imagined such a thing was even possible with all the guardrails and such, but there are photos and video to prove it happened.Walt Disney and theme park aficionado Laughing Place posted the photos and video of the crash aftermath to X. While he was just as shocked as we were, he did note it didn't appear anyone was injured in the freak incident, which is a good thing.
After all, we can't have any tragedies in the happiest place on earth, right?
While we would think this is a first in the ride's 70 year history, it's apparently not even close. Another X user called The Infernoman who claims to have been at one point a trainer and working lead for the Autotopia ride confirmed this sort of thing has happened in the past.
Saying it was 'very rare,' the guy said he has seen a car go completely off the tracks in the past, noting the off-road part of the ride is where it's most likely to occur. He goes on to explain that if one of the cars is hit hard from behind in the area where you make a U-turn, it could in fact get knocked off the track.
That might be why workers at the ride emphasize not ramming into the back of the car in front of you.
The ride was immediately shut down and everyone in the cars had to get out and walk to the exit with help from employees.
Disneyland had the ride up and running again soon after the incident, so whatever happened it must have been an easy fix. Just remember next time you go on Autotopia to not ram into your friends or family members driving right in front of you.

Another Dragstrip Closes Down
Read the full story on Backfire News Car enthusiasts in Paris, Texas are mourning after the Paris Dragstrip announced it's closing for now. With tracks getting shut down and bulldozed far too often these days, we hate seeing these stories. But the owners of the dragstrip say there are multiple good reasons for the sad Paris Dragstrip has been around for over 50 years, hosting NHRA sanctioned races on the 1/8 mile strip in Northwest Texas. It's been an outlet for many who have octane in their veins, helping them get their need for speed firsthand or vicariously. But that's gone in a flash and seemingly without warning. The owners of the facility took to the official Facebook page on June 17 to make the shocking announcement: 'After a lot of thought and consideration, we have made the tough decision to close Paris Dragstrip until further notice. 'With the rising cost of operations, a constant shortage of staff, ongoing criticism, and the continued struggle to break even financially — it's simply not feasible to keep the gates open at this time. 'This track has been a huge part of our family, and I know it means a lot to so many of you. I want to personally thank every racer, fan, family, and crew member who has supported us over the years. Your loyalty and love for the sport never went unnoticed. 'This isn't goodbye forever — just a much-needed pause. We will be taking this time to regroup and consider what's next. I appreciate your understanding and support more than you know.' While it's shocking, even infuriating to see another track close down, it sounds like this move might not be permanent. Exactly what 'criticism' the Paris Dragstrip has endured isn't entirely clear. But looking around on Google Maps, the facility seems to be around some homes. We don't know if those houses were built before or after the strip was established, but we do know some people buy homes near racetracks, then complain about the noise. Hopefully the Paris Dragstrip comes back better than ever. Too many tracks have shut down in recent years and we hate to see another go away forever. Image via Paris Dragstrip/Facebook

Disney Announces Cars-Themed Expansion at Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is gearing up for a transformative expansion as Disney officially unveils plans for a Cars-themed land set to roll into Frontierland. This bold development marks one of the most significant updates to the park in decades, bringing Pixar's beloved automotive universe to life in a wholly original way. A Journey Into the 'Wheeldernesst' The new land, inspired by the Cars franchise and themed around an all-new location called Piston Peak National Park, will combine the spirit of Route 66 with the grandeur of the American frontier. Drawing visual and thematic inspiration from real-life national parks such as the Rockies, the expansion will transport guests to a rustic, nature-filled retreat designed especially for Cars. Disney Imagineers have emphasized a unique blend of storytelling and landscape architecture, with flowing rivers, towering pines, waterfalls, and geysers surrounding immersive structures built to accommodate car-sized inhabitants. Classic western parkitecture meets Pixar charm in a land that feels both fresh and organically tied to Frontierland's storytelling roots. Attractions & Experiences While full attraction details are still under wraps, Disney has confirmed the land will feature two major rides: Off-Road Rally Adventure – Guests will board custom 'off-road' vehicles in an adrenaline-pumping race through rugged terrain. The experience will include an interactive queue inside a park lodge and feature an all-new original character, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore, a comedic, animatronic park ranger who introduces the park's lore. Family-Friendly Experience – A second, yet-to-be-named attraction will offer a more relaxed experience suitable for all ages, likely housed in the park's ranger station area. In addition to attractions, the land will feature walking trails, scenic overlooks, themed retail, and food & beverage locations inspired by the great outdoors—infused with Cars-style humor and design. A Massive Transformation To make way for the expansion, Disney has announced that several long-standing Magic Kingdom offerings will close permanently: Rivers of America Tom Sawyer Island Liberty Square Riverboat These closures will take effect on July 7, 2025, allowing construction to begin immediately. Disney has stated that key walkways and guest flow areas along the Frontierland promenade will remain accessible, with thoughtful redesigns to preserve the park's charm. A New Era for Frontierland This Cars expansion represents not only a physical transformation but also a thematic evolution for Magic Kingdom's Frontierland. While maintaining the land's adventurous spirit and western identity, this addition introduces new characters, environments, and storytelling techniques that align with Disney's vision for the future of its parks. The expansion is part of a broader $60 billion investment plan to enhance Disney Parks worldwide. Though no official opening date has been confirmed, industry speculation points to a multi-year construction timeline, with a likely debut in the late 2020s. Bringing together the scenic splendor of the American wilderness and the high-octane personality of Pixar's Cars, this expansion promises to deliver a uniquely Disney experience—one that honors tradition while racing full speed into the future. For fans and first-time visitors alike, this new destination will redefine what it means to explore the frontier at Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned for updates as Disney reveals more details about Piston Peak National Park and its cast of four-wheeled adventurers. Clint Gamache is the owner of ThrillGeek. Beloved Disney World ride reopening announced — and fans are overjoyed: ‘This is what I needed to hear'
Disney fans, start your engines! A recent wave of closures, changes and cancellations at Disney World has drawn plenty of ire from longtime visitors, but the amusement park's latest announcement has given Disney devotees something to be excited about. On Monday, June 16, Walt Disney World revealed that Test Track, a fan-favorite Epcot ride, is slated to reopen later this summer on July 22. Advertisement The ride was originally closed down in June 2024, much to the disappointment of park-going adrenaline junkies. According to Walt Disney World News Today, the ride is expected to return as Test Track 3.0, and will boast several new features — a fresh musical score, revamped story, and new insights on futuristic technology, among others. Advertisement General Motors, which sponsored the original Test Track 1.0, has also been confirmed to return as the ride's backer for the revamp, ousting Chevrolet, which was responsible for Test Track 2.0. Aside from its intriguing futuristic aesthetic that attracts car buffs and Epcot enthusiasts alike, Test Track is best known for its speed — it's the fastest attraction among all Disney Park rides, clocking in at a dizzying 65 miles per hour. Overwhelmingly, fans responded to the announcement with excitement. 'Yay! I can't wait,' one fan gushed, while another said: 'I'm ready to speed.' Advertisement 'This just made my son's day,' shared an enthusiastic fan, while another chimed in, 'This is what I needed to hear.' 3 Test Track 3.0 cars also boast an entirely new, futuristic look that mimics the sleek appearance of many contemporary vehicles. Getty Images Given that Test Track has been through several notable renovations — with some better received than others — several commenters were suspicious of the reopening news. 'Hopefully it's better than the previous iteration,' said one skeptical park-goer. Advertisement Refurbishments at Disney parks can take anywhere from a few days to a few months, and breakdowns are generally pretty rare, thanks to the meticulous inspection and repair process the park maintains. 3 Reviews from fans suggest that wait times at Test Track are typically upwards of 22 minutes, so planning ahead is advised for potential park-goers. Getty Images 'We have a meter-based program,' Fredrick Cox Jr., the director of manufacturing at Walt Disney World's Central Shops, told Fox Business. 'Every coaster that we have does X number of laps around the track. 'We do a tear-down,' Cox continued. 'We tear it apart, and we inspect everything, everything on the ride. Bolts, bearings, bushings, panels, you name it.' Typically, closures are scheduled ahead of time — the Test Track shutdown is proof of that — but the occasional malfunction does occur, much to the rage of Disney-goers. Cox says fixes usually take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or two to complete. 3 Test Track is among Epcot's most popular rides, so fans are eager for the fast-paced attraction to return. Getty Images As a result of other closures, some Disney fans began to fret that Test Track would be among the shuttered rides. After all, beloved attractions like Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat were recently announced to be closing down to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a new area dedicated to Pixar's 'Cars' franchise. Advertisement Nostalgic park-goers have also commiserated over the long-felt loss — the area closed back in 2011 to make room for Fantasyland — of Mickey's Toontown, the whimsical, life-size village that mimicked some of the most famous Mickey Mouse-themed attractions. Luckily for Test Track fans, the ride will be back later this summer, but dedicated Disney fans should keep an eye out for any other potential closures — and spend time on your favorite attractions before they're gone, as one fan advised in the comments of the park's Instagram announcement.
