Terengganu Govt Seeking RMAF's Assistance To Airlift UPSI Student Injured In Gerik Bus Accident
SETIU, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu state government is negotiating with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to secure a mercy flight service to bring home an Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student who was injured in a bus accident on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Gerik, Perak on June 9.
State Welfare, Women's Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman Maliaman Kassim said the student, Nur Erika Alisya Mohd Zaidi, 21, who is currently still being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, can only be transported back to Terengganu by air.
"Following my recent visit, the hospital informed us that if we want to bring the student home, she cannot travel by land vehicle due to her injuries. Therefore, we are currently negotiating with the RMAF to make efforts to bring Nur Erika Alisya home via a mercy flight," he told Bernama here today.
He said this when met after visiting another UPSI student injured in the accident, Aimi Nusaha Che Azmi, 21, in Kampung Gong Batu, Bandar Permaisuri, here.
Maliaman said that in addition to Nur Erika Alisya, another UPSI student is still receiving treatment at the same hospital, one is being treated at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, while the rest have returned to their respective hometowns.
In the meantime, he said the state government has provided aid to 48 victims and heirs involved in the tragedy, namely RM3,000 to the families of those who died, and RM1,000 to those injured, including the bus driver, co-driver, and four individuals in the Perodua Alza car.
He added that the state government will continue to assist the victims, including medical costs, with the highest medical cost funded by the state government being RM18,588 for Nur Erika Alisya's treatment.
In the early morning incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when a bus specially rented from Jertih to return to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned after being involved in an accident with a Perodua Alza on the JRTB.
The accident also resulted in 33 others being injured, including the bus driver and co-driver, as well as the driver and three passengers of the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

IPOH, June 21 (Bernama) -- Police have mounted a manhunt for three male suspects involved in an armed robbery at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, on June 15. He said that the three suspects had stormed into the premises, damaged property, and fled with an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash taken from the counter. He added that the suspects also injured two customers with the machetes and smashed the windows of four vehicles parked near the premises. Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief involving damage to public property.

Police nab man who drove off with special needs girl in Penaga
KEPALA BATAS: Police have arrested a man who fled in a vehicle with a 12-year-old special needs girl in Penaga on Friday (June 20). Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred around 5.30pm when the girl's mother had gone to her husband's workshop to deliver engine oil, leaving her daughter in the car with the engine still running. "However, when the woman, who is in her 40s, returned to the vehicle, she discovered that both the car and her daughter were missing. She then used a location tracking app to locate her phone, which was with her daughter, and found it was in the Bagan Lalang area of Butterworth," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). He added that based on this information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters, together with personnel from the Butterworth police station, managed to arrest a suspect and recover both the victim and the vehicle. He said checks revealed that the suspect, who is in his 60s, has a criminal record with seven cases and 11 drug-related cases. "The victim is in good condition and did not sustain any injuries. She was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for a medical examination," he added. Anuar said that further investigations are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Sections 379A and 363 of the Penal Code. New ‘Edisi Siasat 2.0' cannot be accessed
KUALA LUMPUR: The Telegram channel of 'Edisi Siasat 2.0', which was created after the 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' channels were blocked yesterday, is now also inaccessible to users of the platform. A Bernama check of the channel found that a warning displayed, saying 'This channel can't be displayed because it violated local laws (Malaysia)' and all content on the channel had also been deleted. Yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) filed a civil action against two channels on the Telegram platform, namely 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas', rendering the two channels inaccessible on the same evening.
