Terengganu Govt Seeking RMAF's Assistance To Airlift UPSI Student Injured In Gerik Bus Accident
SETIU, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu state government is negotiating with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to secure a mercy flight service to bring home an Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student who was injured in a bus accident on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Gerik, Perak on June 9. State Welfare, Women's Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman Maliaman Kassim said the student, Nur Erika Alisya Mohd Zaidi, 21, who is currently still being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, can only be transported back to Terengganu by air. "Following my recent visit, the hospital informed us that if we want to bring the student home, she cannot travel by land vehicle due to her injuries. Therefore, we are currently negotiating with the RMAF to make efforts to bring Nur Erika Alisya home via a mercy flight," he told Bernama here today. He said this when met after visiting another UPSI student injured in the accident, Aimi Nusaha Che Azmi, 21, in Kampung Gong Batu, Bandar Permaisuri, here. Maliaman said that in addition to Nur Erika Alisya, another UPSI student is still receiving treatment at the same hospital, one is being treated at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, while the rest have returned to their respective hometowns. In the meantime, he said the state government has provided aid to 48 victims and heirs involved in the tragedy, namely RM3,000 to the families of those who died, and RM1,000 to those injured, including the bus driver, co-driver, and four individuals in the Perodua Alza car. He added that the state government will continue to assist the victims, including medical costs, with the highest medical cost funded by the state government being RM18,588 for Nur Erika Alisya's treatment. In the early morning incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when a bus specially rented from Jertih to return to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned after being involved in an accident with a Perodua Alza on the JRTB. The accident also resulted in 33 others being injured, including the bus driver and co-driver, as well as the driver and three passengers of the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

RMAF's CAP55 plan targets cyber, drone, and electronic warfare capabilities
KUANTAN: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is advancing its Capability Development Plan 2055 (CAP55) to modernise its air defence, focusing on cyber threats, electronic warfare, and drone operations. This strategic initiative aims to enhance operational readiness and modernise the air force to meet evolving security challenges. Its chief General Tan Sri Asghar Khan Goriman Khan described CAP55 as a blueprint to build an efficient and highly capable air force. "It will be able to address future security challenges, including cyber threats, electronic warfare, autonomous drones, and hybrid conflicts," he told reporters after the RMAF 67th anniversary parade at the Kuantan air base here today. "RMAF will continue to steer forward in enhancing its capabilities and remain ever ready to defend the country's sovereignty." Earlier, in his speech, Asghar Khan said CAP55 involves organisational restructuring, integration of warfare systems, enhancement of training, smart logistics capabilities, and operations based on the concept of multi-domain operations. "In facing the future, the empowerment of human capital is the main pillar. RMAF must produce skilled pilots, innovative engineers, strategic cyber experts, and brave leaders who can make decisions amidst uncertainty," he said. "I want every RMAF member, at all levels, to ensure prudent spending, transparency in project implementation, and reject any form of misconduct," he said. Asghar Khan earlier said Malaysia's bid to acquire F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets from Kuwait has moved a step closer to reality following approval from the United States.

RMAF continues to enhance country's air defence through CAP55
KUANTAN: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will continue to enhance the country's air defence readiness through the implementation of the RMAF Capability Development Plan 2055 (CAP55) as their long-term strategic direction. Its chief, Gen Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan said CAP55 which is the cornerstone of its transformation, was formulated to ensure that the RMAF remains competitive in line with the increasingly complex and multidimensional challenges of modern security. CAP55 is not just an asset acquisition plan, but a comprehensive plan involving the development of doctrine, organisational structure, technology and human capital. 'This plan is not for me or the current leadership, but for the next generation of military personnel so that they can carry the trust of defending the nation's airspace with the best capability,' he said. Mohd Asghar Khan said this at the press conference after the RMAF 67th Anniversary parade ceremony celebration themed 'Kuasa Udara, Perisai Kedaulatan Negara' (Air Power, Shield of National Sovereignty)' at the Kuantan Air Base here today. At this anniversary celebration, he also announced his retirement after more than four decades of service in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and he will hand over the leadership of the RMAF to his deputy, Lt Gen Datuk Seri Muhamad Norazlan Aris. Mohd Asghar Khan said the plan also prepares the RMAF to face non-traditional threats, including cyberattacks, electronic warfare, the use of autonomous drones, and hybrid conflicts that are now increasingly dominant in the global defence landscape. Therefore, he expressed confidence that the implementation of CAP55 will be strengthened under the new leadership, described as authoritative and far-sighted. 'Alhamdulillah, the RMAF today is on a solid foundation. We will continue to move forward in our efforts to enhance capabilities and remain vigilant in defending our beloved homeland,' he said. He said the RMAF has now developed significantly from a small team to a credible modern air force, with a record of achievements in conventional air operations, humanitarian missions, and the operation of various advanced weapon systems. Commenting on the progress of the purchase of 30 used F/A-18C D Hornet fighter jets from Kuwait, he also said both parties have established a committee for further discussions before the purchase process is carried out soon. 'The Kuwaiti Air Force needs to acquire the F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets purchased from the United States first. When they start receiving those aircraft, only then can the older aircraft be sent to us,' he added.
