Speculation continues to swirl around the future of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner. An unexpected report brought a new possible destination to the table.

The 28-year-old winger is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and multiple sources have indicated that Toronto is weighing scenarios to recoup value before his departure.
Among the options being discussed is a sign-and-trade arrangement, in which the Maple Leafs would sign Marner to an eight-year contract and immediately flip him to a team of his choosing.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, this outcome is unlikely but not off the table. A "plausible" scenario, in Pagnotta's words, would involve Toronto trading Marner's negotiating rights before July 1 to give another team a head start in talks.
On Saturday, Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects fueled Pagnotta's beliefs with a report confirming there's "real smoke" about the Florida Panthers' interest in Marner.

Robinson reported that Florida is "gearing up to make a run" at Marner, even before he reaches free agency.
"There's real smoke that the Florida Panthers could be gearing up to make a run at Marner," Robinson wrote. "Word is that Toronto has opened the door to a sign-and-trade scenario, where they ink Marner to a max-term extension (eight years) and then flip him to recoup some level of value."
Toronto, having Marner's negotiating rights, is the only franchise that can add an extra year to the winger's extension, making it eight years long instead of the seven-year deal all other 31 franchises can offer him.

Marner, who posted a career-high 102 points this past season, is expected to reach the market to evaluate all options on the table, and he's not publicly committed to either leaving or returning to Toronto.

Pagnotta noted that an extension is far less likely than with fellow veteran forward and pending free agent John Tavares.
Robinson confirm that belief in his report.
"The Leafs know that Marner is all but assured to leave," Robinson wrote. "For the acquiring team, moving a draft pick to avoid a bidding war is a very palatable cost. Whether Marner is keen for that route is another thing."
Regarding other potential offers, Robinson quoted one source close to the matter, saying, 'That Marner to LA report is pure rubbish,' with regards to the Los Angeles Kings being one of the most-linked teams to the Maple Leafs star.

Nick Sirianni Continues To Pull Right Strings For Eagles

Nick Sirianni Continues To Pull Right Strings For Eagles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ever since Nick Sirianni was hired as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the outspoken leader has seemed to have strong control over the locker room. Advertisement Year after year, Sirianni has been able to handle the pulse of the roster to the point of allowing them to succeed even when adversity hit hard. It all came together last season when Sirianni's leadership helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX. At 48-20, Sirianni's .706 winning percentage is among the highest in NFL history for a coach in his first four seasons. His control of the locker room's pulse was abundantly clear during offseason workouts. In a clip of the Eagles' Unscripted documentary, Sirianni clarified the team's mindset for this season. "First I want to say, the celebration is over. OK? The celebration is over, preparation is here. Celebration is over, preparation is here," Sirianni said. "As we continued through here last year, as we came into the 2024 season there was a lot that we talked about of handling adversity. Now, it's a little different. You have to handle success, Right? It's a different animal. Right? Advertisement "You've got to handle success. Everyone right now, for the guys here, is telling you how good you are. Treat praise like perfume. Sniff it, don't drink it. It's poison." While Philadelphia is one of the youngest teams in the league, its roster is very veteran-laden. Its young players all played key roles in its Super Bowl run last season. Sirianni's ability to get his young team on the same page this early in the offseason shows that he continues to know the right ways to prepare his team for the season. And it shows why his record shows there's more to winning football games than just calling plays. Ravens Running Backs Named NFL's Best

Ravens Running Backs Named NFL's Best originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In 2024, the Baltimore Ravens led the NFL in rushing yards, tallying 3,189 yards on the ground. The majority of that running came from two sources: running back Derrick Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson. Advertisement Henry ran for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns, while Jackson picked up 915 yards and four touchdowns on the ground himself. The dominant rushing duo is running it back in 2025, and plan on continuing to frighten opposing defenses. Henry headlines what PFF's Dalton Wasserman deemed the top running back room in the NFL. "The Ravens reign supreme with the NFL's highest-graded running back from last season, Derrick Henry, and a talented unit behind him." Wasserman wrote. "Henry led the position with a 93.5 PFF rushing grade as well as 89 missed tackles forced and 6.0 yards per carry. At this point, his eventual decline isn't believable until we see it." Henry isn't the only talented back in the room, however. Justice Hill was one of the NFL's most effective third-down backs last season, picking up 14 first downs on 47 carries, while also picking up 17 first downs in the receiving game. Advertisement Baltimore also has Keaton Mitchell in their back pocket, who didn't see much playing time in 2024, but in his rookie campaign in 2023 averaged 8.4 yards per carry. Rasheen Ali rounds out the room, he took just 10 carries in his rookie campaign last season, but flashed some special teams ability, averaging 26.8 yards per return on kicks. "Alongside Henry is one of the NFL's best third-down backs, Justice Hill." Wasserman added. "Hill's 89.0 PFF receiving grade in 2024 ranked fourth among running backs last season. He did not drop any of his 52 targets. Baltimore also has Keaton Mitchell, who earned an elite 92.5 PFF rushing grade in limited work in 2023, and Rasheen Ali, who added special-teams value late last season." Boasting the NFL's best running back room with one of its best scrambling quarterbacks is a recipe for success. The Ravens had the third-highest scoring offense in 2024, and led the NFL in total yards produced, tallying 7,224 yards over their 17 game season. Caleb Williams Predicted to Shatter Bears Passing Record in 1st Year With Ben Johnson

Caleb Williams Predicted to Shatter Bears Passing Record in 1st Year With Ben Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Bears have an illustrious history stretching back more than a century, though it is devoid of even a single great quarterback during the Super Bowl era. Advertisement Jim McMahon is the only Bears signal-caller with a championship ring, though he won it with the overwhelming support of one of the best defenses in NFL history. In terms of career resumé, Jay Cutler is the most prolific thrower of the football ever to wear a Chicago uniform, and it's unclear how much he ever cared about the sport or being great at it while he was playing. The No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft was supposed to change all that. The Bears landed former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and got off to a 4-2 start. Then a 10-game losing streak struck, and Williams watched as his offensive coordinator and head coach get fired, though his view was often obscured by the turf stuck in his helmet following any number of the league-leading 68 sacks he endured. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Chicago's front office called on former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson this offseason, luring him to the Windy City with the promise Williams' talent and $13 million annually over a five-year contract to save the purported savior of the Bears' cursed QB room. Advertisement Johnson subsequently added three new interior offensive linemen, all of whom appear likely to start. He then spent the team's first two draft picks on a stud tight end and a stud slot receiver to round out Williams' weapons alongside Nos. 1 and 2 wideouts DJ Moore and Rome Odunze. Now, it's time to put it all together during training camp. Jeffri Chadiha of expects Johnson, Williams and the rest of the Bears offense will do just that, predicting on Thursday, June 19, that the quarterback will break the all-time franchise record for passing yards in just his second season. "One thing that shouldn't be doubted is whether he'll become the first Chicago signal-caller to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. Williams won't just reach that barrier; he'll blow it away, especially when considering all the advantages he has working for him now," Chadiha wrote. "Williams threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns last season when he was running for his life and trying too hard to extend plays. Better coaching and an improved supporting cast will make life much easier for him, and the numbers will bear that out." Chadiha projected Williams to throw for 4,500 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2025.
