Driver Power, which is the Carwow Group's flagship research study, asked thousands of new car owners to share their thoughts and real-life experiences of the vehicles they newly bought.
They're asked to judge their motor's reliability, interior space, safety features, value-for-money and driving experience, in a bid to help car experts determine which set of wheels offers owners the ultimate satisfaction.
Last year, the winner was the delightful Dacia Duster - championed for being roomy, well-built and great value for money.
This year's winner, though, was the classy Mercedes GLE - which topped the tables across six categories, including driving pleasure and overall quality.
The GLE reached a score of 92.24% overall, scoring highly across the board apart from in the economy and running costs category, where satisfaction with fuel economy sinks to 43rd place.
If you want to run this car, you may need deep pockets.
However, the GLE's key wins included driving pleasure, safety attributes, climate, audio and sat-nav function, as well as overall quality.
Its exterior style, sat-nav and the balance of digital and touchscreen controls were all highly rated by owners, too.
Owners said: 'The GLE's luxurious interior, smooth ride, and advanced tech make it a joy to drive, but it's roomy enough for family and luggage.
'Its powerful engine, spacious cabin, and sleek design blend comfort with performance perfectly.'
Vauxhall Mokka hybrid is a smarter, greener & better equipped version of old motor… but small detail really lets it down
Coming in just behind the GLE was the Vauxhall Grandland with a score of 90.55% - topping one category and taking second place in five others.
Indeed, it failed to score outside of the top 10 in any of the categories, proving to be an excellent all rounder.
'It is high off the ground, with plenty of room inside,' said an owner.
'Quiet and comfortable on long journeys, and the boot is amazing.
'I like absolutely everything; it's comfortable, easy to use and I look forward to driving it. It's good value, too.'
Another Vauxhall – the most recent Astra - came in third place with a score of 89.97%, racking up six category 'top fives' - including first place in the ride and handling category.
For generations, the Astra has been one of Britain's favourite family cars, with the latest iteration adored for its ride and handling, through to ride quality and road handling.
Owners also love the exterior style, ranking it third, while front seat comfort is fourth and interior style sixth.
An owner said: 'It is smooth, quiet, very comfortable, it has an impressive range of driver assistance technology and it looks stunning, even after three years and 50,000 miles.'
Despite the Ford Puma continuing to enjoy a run as the nation's best-selling car, in fourth place is another Ford - the Kuga - which has risen six places since last year after scoring highly for safety, practicality and interior - notably for boot space and seating versatility.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has also gone up by five places to rank fifth, thanks to especially good scores for infotainment and value for money.
One owner said: 'I like the luxurious interior and the smooth ride, the advanced safety features, the strong performance and the elegant design.'
Talking about the results, Paul Barker, editor of Auto Express, said: "Driver Power is Carwow Group's leading car ownership survey, brought to life by Auto Express.
'It reveals what owners genuinely think - and how they feel - about their cars.
'That unique perspective gives unrivalled insight into what prospective customers can expect, and tells manufacturers exactly what their own customers think of the cars they sell.
"From running costs to quality and infotainment, we get the views of people living with these cars day-to-day, and the results show the cars that offer the best chance of a very satisfying ownership experience."

Gabrielle Union reveals the 'stupid' purchase she made after cashing first big paycheck for Bring It On

Gabrielle Union revealed the 'stupid' purchase she made after cashing in her paycheck from her breakthrough film Bring It On. The 52-year-old actress, who rose to fame after starring in the cult classic cheerleading comedy in 2000, opened up about what she regretted doing when she 'made it' in Hollywood. She said that over two decades ago, she made a 'stupid' car purchase with her first big paycheck even against the advice of her father. While making an appearance at the American Black Film Festival in Miami on Thursday, June 12, she recalled her spontaneous purchase during a panel discussion. 'So stupid,' she began about her purchase, which she deemed not very worthwhile, while chatting with moderator Kelley L. Carter for her live, onstage discussion titled Sisterhood & Savings: A Conversation with Gabrielle Union. 'I went on the Mazda lot,' the movie star — who teased an upcoming sequel movie with Kirsten Dunst — recalled. 'I'm like, "Oh, I've made it when I have a Mazda." 'My dad's like, "Don't buy a brand new car. It depreciates the second you drive it off the lot",' she added. 'I walked into Mazda and I bought myself a black on black Mazda Miata with leather seats,' Union said before explaining how the car hurt her nearly every time she drove it. 'Let me tell you about leather seats in Los Angeles. Do you know I scorched myself every time I got out?' She added: 'Yeah, that was my first purchase. And it depreciated the second I drove it off the lot.' Over the years, Union as well as her husband, retired NBA star Dwyane Wade, have openly discussed their finances in the past. They previously revealed that they split their bills evenly even after getting married. Wade, 43, also previously shared that he and Union signed a prenup before they tied the knot in August 2014. While making an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast in 2023, Wade said that they discussed it beforehand to protect each other's best interests. She said that over two decades ago, she made a 'stupid' car purchase with her first big paycheck even against the advice of her father 'So stupid,' she began about her purchase, revealing it was a 'black on black Mazda Miata with leather seats' while chatting with moderator Kelley L. Carter for her onstage discussion titled Sisterhood & Savings: A Conversation with Gabrielle Union 'I told her the same way, "I'll sign a prenup too. You're a millionaire. You got money. You work hard for yourself."' Union's decades-spanning, acclaimed career began in the 1990s with various sitcom appearances. Near the turn of the century, she landed supporting roles in 10 Things I Hate About You and She's All That, rising to fame in the 1999 romantic comedies. Union was 27 whens he starred opposite Kirsten Dunst in Bring It On. Earlier this year, Union teased an upcoming sequel and also admitted that her kids do not like the original movie. The original film starred Union and Dunst as the heads of rival cheerleading teams as they prepare for the national championships. Bring It On was a hit in its theatrical release in August 2000, taking in $90.4 million against an $11 million budget and gaining an enduring fan base. The film also spawned five direct-to-video sequels and a television movie sequel, none of which featured any of the original cast members, as well as a Broadway musical stage adaptation. Now it seems that Union and Dunst are ready to return for a sequel, with Union teasing a sequel during a March appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live. She also admitted during the episode that neither of her kids — 17-year-old Zaya nor six-year-old Kaavia — enjoyed the beloved original, which comes after she opened up about husband Dwyane Wade's cancer diagnosis. Union was asked by a fan when the last time she saw Dunst, and asked about her comments about revisiting the original. 'Well, I ran into Kiki a couple of months ago. Our kids are around the same age, and her child goes to school with one of Kaav's best friends,' Union began.

This Gorgeous, 1-of-26, Piece of American Automotive History Can be Yours on BaT

A time of innovation… The 1950s were a hotbed for independent automotive innovation. It was a time when lax rules and regulations meant that automakers and regular Joes could create what they thought was the next best American automobile. Although already an established name by that time, Hudson was not averse to embarking on new projects. One of those new projects gave birth to what I strongly believe to be one of the most unique cars to have ever seen the blacktop, and one of them is now for sale on Bring a Trailer. 1954 Hudson Italia Project …and a tremendous example of that innovation The Hudson Italia was created when Hudson's chief designer, Frank Spring, saw the publicity Chrysler had created with their Ghia-bodied creations. The Italia was bodied by the Italian Touring Supperleggera coachbuilding company, with some unique touches that truly gave it a jet-era look that would fit right at home in the Jetsons. The bodywork featured an inverted 'V' centered in the front bumper, V-shaped brake-cooling scoops above the headlights, a wraparound windshield, brake-cooling scoops, upper door edges contouring into the roofline, and triple chrome tubes recessed into the rear fenders for the rear lights. 1954 Hudson Italia Project 1954 Hudson Italia Project A prototype was shown at various Hudson dealers around the country, with just 25 other examples produced between 1954 and 1955 before Hudson merged with the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation to form American Motors Corporation. This particular 1954 example, chassis 10007, was reportedly displayed at the 1954 Paris Motor Show before moving to Sweden in July 1955 with its first owner. It saw several more owners throughout the 1970s before another Swedish owner kept it for 22 years. It was later purchased by its current owner and imported to the US in 1999. Its 202ci Twin-H L-head inline-six was overhauled in 2011, and replacement twin Carter carburetors were installed. The bodywork was left unpainted and shows numerous patina scars, including dents, patches, primer, and a damaged windshield. It is also unfortunately missing its bumpers, which adds a tremendous amount of style to the car. The car retains its column-shifted three-speed manual transmission, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, independent front suspension, as well as its red and black leather upholstery that was reportedly re-dyed. Matching red carpeting was seemingly installed, but the dashboard and terrific-looking, wrapped two-spoke steering wheel remain intact. It sits on factory 15' Borrani wire wheels with wide whitewall tires that will absolutely need replacing. The odometer currently shows around 61,000 miles. As much as seeing this car in a shiny, period-correct paint job would be stunning, preserving it in its current worn state entices me more. Cars are only original once, and erasing the dents and scratches that help tell this piece of history's story is almost a tragedy to me. Regardless, the Bring a Trailer auction ends in 5 days with a current bid of a mere $10,000. The seller claims that many spare parts come with the car and that they have even 3D-scanned a fully restored Italia that the future owner of this one can use to make parts. It is definitely a daunting project, but how often do you get such a chance? About the Author Gabriel Ionica View Profile

Huge carmaker ‘may sell iconic luxury motor brand' as sales dive and new CEO takes charge

ONE of the world's largest car manufacturers looks set to sell an iconic sports car brand as sales plummet. Discussions over the future of Maserati remain ongoing as industry giant Stellantis prepares to welcome its new CEO in the coming days. 5 5 The French-Italian company could be forced to sell the luxury car brand on the back of poor sales over the past year. New CEO Antonio Filosa - who starts on Monday after being appointed last month - faces huge financial decisions as a result of President Trump's brutal trade tariffs. Stellantis - which owns 14 brands across the globe - was reported to have hired management consulting firm McKinsey and Co to review the situation. McKinsey was called in April this year to advise on struggling brands Maserati and Alfa Romeo, with both experiencing a dire 2024. Last year, the number of Maserati units sold plunged from 26,600 to just 11,300. Stellanis told Motor1: "McKinsey has been asked to provide its considerations regarding the recently announced U.S. tariffs for Alfa Romeo and Maserati." Trump's new legislation means tariffs of at least 25 percent on anything imported into the US. Maserati has no new model launches scheduled as it waits for a new business plan, with the last one having been put on hold by Stellantis in 2024. The plan is expected to be presented soon after Filosa starts his new role. But as things stand, it is understood that all options remain on the table for the world-renowned Italian brand. It came after the global firm pulled the plug on a £1.3billion investment in Maserati earlier this year. Plans for the hotly anticipated electric MC20 Folgore were also binned due to low demand. WHO ARE STELLANTIS? The EV, which translates to 'lightning' in Italian, was intended to be the brand's electric alternative to the stunning MC20 sports car. It promised a power output and performance characteristics similar to the existing V6-engined MC20. The Folgore was set to be one of six Maserati EVs set for launch over the next year or so. But Stellantis chief financial officer Doug Ostermann said they had pulled the plug on Maserati projects, claiming they wanted to review the pace in which sports car owners move over to EVs. He said: "We have to recognise the dynamics in that business, particularly in the Chinese market, and our expectations in terms of how quickly that luxury market would transition to electrification." What is Stellantis? Stellantis is the company behind iconic motor brands such as Fiat, Vauxhall and Peugot. The conglomerate, which is the second-largest maker of cars in Europe, owns 14 badges, including Chrysler, Citroen, Jeep and Maserati. The company itself is the product of a merger between Fiat-Chrysler and France's PSA, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen, in 2021. But the motoring giant has encountered increasingly stuttering financial success. And an initial manufacturing break at Stellantis has now been extended as bosses report a collapse in demand for electric cars. Other projects, including EV replacements for the Levante and Quattroporte models, are in danger of being cancelled too. The vehicles were set to be released in 2027 and 2028 respectively. It is understood the three models would have been Maserati's electric line-up as the firm looked to adapt to the EV revolution. Before he left the firm last year, Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares claimed the low sales at Maserati were due to advertising issues. He told Top Gear: "Maserati is in the red. The reason is marketing. "The Maserati brand is not clearly positioned and the storytelling is not how it should be. "The brand is not just about sports cars, it's about gran turismo, it's about quality of life, dolce vita and technology." 5 5
