The Ford Mustang Mach-E isn't a Mustang in the traditional sense, but ultimately, who cares? It's a great electric crossover, and it's not like Ford stopped selling the regular Mustang. Plus, while I'm sure Ford CEO Jim Farley has his flaws, he isn't actively trying to destroy the federal government and has never once exposed me to his breeding fetish, so that's another two points in Mach-E's favor. Still, some people really want to hear that V8 roar, and the Mach-E doesn't have an engine of any kind. Don't worry, though, Hertz fixed that. Sort of.
The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E you're looking at here is Shelby GT-H, and yes, that H stands for Hertz. This isn't just any former rental car, though. It's one of 100 that Hertz commissioned Shelby to build, at an alleged cost of $21,841 per car. It won't be any quicker than a regular Mach-E GT, but you do get 20-inch black wheels, a carbon fiber hood, the customary gold stripes, a carbon fiber front lip, GT-H seats and, most importantly for our purposes here, a Borla sound system that makes it sound like your EV actually has the GT 500's V8 under the hood.

Adding a fake exhaust to an EV certainly sounds like a terrible idea at first. After all, how much overlap can there really be between people who want an EV and people who want their car to sound like a GT500? There must be dozens of possible buyers out there. And yet, I have to admit the video of the seller "revving" the "engine" sounds better than I thought it would. I don't get the appeal personally, but it's probably a neat trick for kids at car shows, and I'm not going to pretend the black and gold spec doesn't do it for me because it absolutely does.
It also isn't like you have to leave the "exhaust" on all the time, which means you could drive it like a cooler-looking Mach-E GT 99% of the time and then show off the fake noises it makes at Cars & Coffee or any time you give a ride to a child. Alternatively, if you have a neighbor who's constantly annoying you with how loud their vehicles are, you could give them a taste of their own medicine without the need to buy a car that needs gas and is actually that loud.
Okay, so that pitch isn't going to appeal to the vast majority of people reading this, and the premium you'll pay versus buying a regular Mach-E GT with similar miles makes it something you have to really be into to justify. But if we only wrote up cars with near-universal appeal, Jalopnik would be nothing but Honda CR-Vs and Kia Tellurides, and no one wants that. Besides, the 1-of-100 thing has to be worth a little something, right? I guess we'll find out in five days when the auction is finally over.

The Action Network: Great American Getaway 400 odds, picks, predictions

The NASCAR Cup Series is at the 'Tricky Triangle' this week for The Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway (2:00 p.m. ET, Prime Video). Pocono is a 2.5-mile, triangle-shaped track with three different radius corners, each with varying degrees of (relatively flat) banking, and three different straightaway lengths. In geometry class, we called that a scalene triangle, and with three differently priced manufacturers for this race, I'll be scaling that scalene definition to the betting world. Advertisement When we examine track history and practice times, one manufacturer stands out with a few undervalued drivers, so I'll take the lot of them for the win. Let's dive in and check out our Great American Getaway 400 odds, picks and predictions for Pocono. NASCAR at Pocono Best Bet As I do every race, I take a close look at my practice FLAGS metric to identify which drivers stand out and if there are any trends in the FLAGS data. As it turns out, there was a pretty clear trend right off the bat. Each of the top-four drivers in my group-adjusted FLAGS was piloting a Ford, with Ryan Blaney leading Chris Buescher, Austin Cindric, and Brad Keselowski until we reached the first non-Ford, William Byron. Advertisement The Blue Ovals also boast a relatively strong recent track history, with Blaney winning this race a year ago and setting the most fastest laps, while Buescher and Keselowski racked up the second- and fifth-most fastest laps. Ford as a whole took home 71 of the 117 (60.7%) fastest laps, including four of the top five drivers, with Josh Berry grabbing 13 fastest laps. In addition, Cindric claimed four fastest laps, so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that he ended up in the top four in FLAGS. Berry is also undervalued in my model, because there's no way to account for a car not completing any representative at-speed laps, with Berry having a diffuser issue costing him pace in practice and forcing him to miss qualifying. Even with Berry undervalued in my model, it still shows Ford having a 32.6% chance of winning this race, which translates to implied odds of +207. Advertisement If we bump Berry up a bit, this wager likely shows value at close to 2-to-1. However, as always, I like to leave some wiggle room for model error, so I'm comfortable with this down to around +220. FanDuel is offering this at +260, which is a healthy deviation from my model's number. Ford looked fantastic on the long run, so if you're tailing me on this, we're probably rooting for a healthy green flag run to end this race, rather than some late-race restarts where Chevy showed plenty of speed on the short run. While President Donald Trump's social media posts make it seem as though his tariff moves are executed at his whim, it is clear that at least some industries have a seat at the negotiating table. The auto industry's top executives have said they are in close contact with the White House and have even praised the president and his White House team for hearing their concerns. However, it is also clear that Trump's interest in protecting the auto industry's bottom line is Stellantis, and General Motors — America's Big 3 automakers — have all said that Trump's tariffs will cost them billions, and they've pulled their guidance due to a lack of visibility. Trump has made it clear to every industry that he doesn't want prices to increase, even going as far as telling companies like Walmart to just 'EAT THE TARIFFS.' So, every time the auto industry has been observed raising prices in recent months, it has denied that it has anything to do with tariffs. Others, like Mazda, have indeed eaten the tariffs, with the Japanese automaker sending a letter to its U.S. dealers informing them that it would not raise its sticker prices or tack on import fees for any vehicles already on dealership lots or that will come into the country before May 1. Toyota is the latest Japanese automaker to make a pricing move, but it isn't blaming the move on tariffs. Toyota sold over 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. last year, a 3.7% year-over-year increase. Between April 2024 and March 2025, the company built 1.96 million units in the U.S., according to Statista. So, despite a U.S. production capacity that can handle nearly 2 million vehicles a year, Toyota still ships in nearly half a million vehicles from overseas to sell in the U.S. On June 21, Toyota said that prices for several Toyota and Lexus brand vehicles will rise by an average of $270 and $208, respectively, starting in July, according to an email seen by Bloomberg. While the price increase could be seen as a response to the 25% duties Trump has placed on auto imports, Toyota insists that the move is just part of its regular price review April, fellow Japanese automaker Mitsubishi said it would hold its vehicles in port for the foreseeable future instead of offloading them and being forced to pay duties. "We have sufficient stock on the ground at dealers for the moment to not impact customer choice," the company said at the time. While it was unclear how much cargo was in the ports, Mitsubishi's 330 U.S. dealers sold 109,843 vehicles in the U.S. in 2024, a 25.8% year-over-year increase and the brand's best performance since 2019. Earlier this month, the company announced that it is raising prices on three models, also saying that the move was just a regular adjustment and not a reaction to tariffs. Japanese car companies aren't the only ones afraid to pin their price increases on tariffs. In May, Ford sent a notice to dealers saying it planned to raise prices on the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, Maverick pickup truck, and Bronco Sport SUV by as much as $2,000 on some models. Those vehicles are made in Mexico. Those vehicles will start arriving on dealer lots in late June. The company emphasized that its employee pricing promotion remains for all of its vehicles through the July 4 weekend. Just like Mazda and Toyota before it, the company says the increase was due to its usual midyear pricing actions, but it was also "combined with some tariffs we are facing.
