Cascarino told talkSPORT: 'I understand that you can stick to your principles and your ideas.
'But if you're playing for Rangers and you're getting beaten 3-0 against Celtic, you're overplaying and they're demanding that you go for blood - because they do, whether we like it or not - that's what the Old Firm derby's like and you have to be matching that.
'If you're playing tippy-tappy football and you're winning, you won't have a problem.
'I'm being a bit disrespectful saying tippy-tappy but basically I mean overplaying in dangerous areas.
'If they do that against Celtic and come off second best again, it will be over before it even starts, it really will.'
Martin will take charge of his first training sessions with the Light Blues squad this coming week.
And he'll be hoping to welcome Max Aarons to the fray sooner rather than later.
Its understood a deal is in place for the Bournemouth full-back to join Gers on loan for the upcoming season.
The next step will be the Ibrox club announcing the move, with Gers believed to have beaten Leeds United in the race.
Also on Martin's to-do list is tying Nicolas Raskin down to a new contract on improved terms.

The former Scotland international wants to mould his his Rangers first team around the energetic Belgian midfielder, who has been attracting interest from clubs across Europe.
Meanwhile, the deal to take Cyriel Dessers to AEK Athens looks to have stalled with the Greek club refusing to pay more than £3.8million to land the striker.
Gers understandably want a greater fee for their top goal scorer, even if they don't plan to use him as much next year and he is already 30.
Accepting such a bid would also translate to a net loss for Rangers, who spent £4.5m to land the Nigerian international from Serie A side Cremonese two years ago.
Winger Kwame Poku remains a target for the Light Blues but big-spending Birmingham City are also keen on him.

Ex-Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley 'eager' to join Roma
The 23-year-old is reportedly eager to join Serie A club Roma. O'Riley had a tough start at Brighton, getting injured six minutes into his debut, but managed to make 23 appearances in his first season.
