Japan Backs Johor's Push To Become ASEAN Urban Mobility Model

JOHOR BAHRU, June 19 (Bernama) -- Japan has pledged continued support for Johor's transformation into an ASEAN benchmark for urban mobility by promoting smart transit solutions and cutting-edge transportation technologies.
Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Noriyuki Shikata said the initiative aligns with Johor's rapid economic growth, particularly fuelled by the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which is set to position the state as a key regional economic hub.
He said the forthcoming Rapid Transit System, Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS), expected to be completed by late 2026, along with the proposed Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit System (E-ART), are key to improving public transportation in Johor.

By utilising Japan's AI-powered traffic control systems and digitally optimised public transportation networks, Johor could significantly reduce traffic congestion and emerge as a transportation model not just for Malaysia, but for the entire ASEAN region, he said at the Nikkei Forum Medini Johor 2025 here Thursday.
Co-organised by Iskandar Investment Bhd and Japan's Nikkei Inc, the two-day Nikkei Forum Medini Johor 2025 is hosted by the Johor state government with support from the Johor Economic Planning Division, Invest Johor, and the Iskandar Puteri City Council.
He highlighted the strategic potential of the Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Johor Port, both of which are well-positioned to grow as competitive regional logistics hubs and play a larger role in international trade.
He said Japanese stakeholders are eager to collaborate on enhancing operational efficiency and vessel traffic management at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Johor Port, aiming to strengthen Johor's role in international trade, generate quality employment, and significantly contribute to regional economic growth.
As Johor continues to emerge as a key destination for data centres, Shikata underscored the significant environmental challenge posed by the high energy demand for cooling, noting that Japan's LNG-based cooling technology offers an environmentally friendly and efficient cooling solution.
'By adopting this technology, the data centres in Johor would significantly improve energy efficiency while reducing their environmental impacts as well as improving operational efficiency,' he said.

IPOH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Perak Syariah Judiciary Department has developed the Modul Awam Elektronik Kehakiman Syariah Perak (eKSPerk) website to facilitate the preparation of registration forms for selected syariah court cases. Perak Chief Syariah Judge Datuk Ab Rahman Thobroni Mohd Mansor said the website, accessible at has been operational since June 10. He said cases eligible for registration through eKSPerk include consensual divorce applications, confirmation of divorce pronouncements, underage marriage applications and the appointments of wali hakim. 'This public module was developed to assist individuals without legal representation who often face difficulties in preparing court documents. 'Previously, the public found it challenging to engage document writers due to high fees charged by some. With eKSPerk, users can fill in the necessary case details and information more conveniently,' he told reporters after the 2024 Perak Syariah Judiciary Department Excellence Appreciation Ceremony here today. Ab Rahman Thobroni said that, for now, users must print out the completed forms and submit them to the court manually. 'We are working to upgrade the website so that, in the future, documents filled in via eKSPerk can be directly integrated into the e-syariah system,' he said. He said registration forms prepared by third parties or individuals are still accepted, as long as they comply with the required format, content structure and language style. 'At present, the Perak Syariah Judiciary Department is the only one implementing such a module, but it may be adopted by syariah judiciary departments in other states,' he said.

Perlis Forms Special Task Force To Recover Revenue From Leased Land, Buildings

KANGAR, June 20 (Bernama) -- A special task force led by Perlis state secretary Datuk Rahimi Ismail has been formed to address revenue leakages related to the rental of state land and buildings. Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said the task force is responsible for identifying and collecting data on premises and assets involved in the leakages, as well as coordinating actions to ensure that lost revenue can be recovered. 'Among the task force's early achievements is identifying revenue leakages involving four departments/agencies. Through these initial actions, the total leakage identified has reached RM1.5 million. '...with an estimated RM800,000 expected to be recovered by the end of 2025. This effort will continue to involve other departments," he said during the monthly assembly of the state administration here today. Mohd Shukri said the task force is also in the process of preparing a Premises Usage Management Guideline, which has been reviewed by the State Legal Adviser's Office and is now being examined by the Perlis State Land and Mines Office (PTG) for feedback. Mohd Shukri said the task force was formed following a January audit committee meeting that called for immediate action to ensure rental income from state-owned properties collected by third parties is returned to the state. Issues related to the rental of state land and buildings include activities conducted without valid contracts or agreements, violations of existing regulations, encroachments on government-owned land and the rental of assets that do not provide reasonable returns to the state, he added. SejaTi MADANI: Value-added Catfish Products Help Boost Community Income

PASIR SALAK, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programme has proven effective in strengthening the local economy, particularly for the urban poor and communities in rural and remote areas. Perak Menteri Besar's special officer for the Kampung Gajah state constituency, Khairul Azwan Harun, said that with a government grant of RM100,000 under the SejaTi MADANI initiative, the community of Kampung Makmur near Kampung Gajah here has achieved notable success through the production of value-added products derived from catfish farming in canvas ponds. "The Kampung Makmur community now has three main downstream products, namely catfish balls, cakes, and butter garlic herb fillets, all produced entirely by participants of the SejaTi MADANI programme. "This project not only generates income from fish farming but also imparts new knowledge and helps increase the income of local residents through the creation of downstream products," he told Bernama after launching the products under the SejaTi MADANI programme by the Kampung Makmur Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) at Pasir Salak Community College here today. He also reminded recipients of SejaTi MADANI funds to ensure that the allocations bring positive impact to the local community. "Participants must realise that the SejaTi MADANI programme, initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is meant to help the community grow their economy," he said. Meanwhile, Kampung Makmur JPKK chairman Muhammad Fauzi Ahmad Shaharudin said the launch of the downstream products marked the continuation of the catfish farming project undertaken by the community in September last year. "Following the success of our catfish farming, we began a new chapter by developing downstream products, and a total of 17 JPKK members took part in an intensive training series at Pasir Salak Community College from May 21 to June 12," he said. He added that in addition to processing techniques, participants also received training in packaging, labelling, digital marketing, and accounting to ensure they not only produce quality goods but are also capable of managing and promoting their business effectively.
