Iraqi forces retrieve two ISIS militants' bodies in Saladin after airstrikes
Shafaq News/ Iraqi security forces uncovered the remains of two ISIS militants during a search operation in eastern Saladin province, days after airstrikes targeted suspected hideouts, the Joint Operations Command (JOC) revealed on Thursday.
In a statement, the JOC reported that troops from the 88th Brigade, supported by military intelligence and engineering units, conducted the follow-up sweep after F-16 jets hit militant positions in the Balkana mountain range near Tuz Khurmatu earlier this week. 'Forces retrieved weapons, communication gear, and materials linked to ISIS operations, along with the bodies.'
Military footage also showed the destruction of what officials described as a 'functioning ISIS guesthouse,' deep in rugged terrain used by remnants of the group.
Despite ISIS's territorial defeat in 2017, the group's remnants continue to launch sporadic attacks using suicide bombings, ambushes, and guerrilla warfare, particularly in rugged terrain and remote areas where they maintain hideouts.
Iraq has ramped up pressure on the group's remaining elements in 2025, reportedly neutralizing over 50 militants in the first quarter alone.

Hassan Abdul Hadi al-Tamimi was fired from his post as director of Basra airport on Wednesday by the Iraqi transportation ministry, which said his dismissal was part of 'routine administrative measures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the airport's management.' In an audio recording obtained by Rudaw on Saturday, Tamimi said he was wrongly terminated. 'My dismissal from my duties… came against the backdrop of a firm stance to delay the implementation of some ill-considered decisions and orders and the intense pressures that were exerted on me to return some of the people in the airport previously dismissed during my tenure due to their incompetence,' Tamimi said. He also denied allegations that he had installed eavesdropping devices inside the airport. 'I would also like to categorically deny what has been circulated on some suspicious pages, supported by malicious rumors, including the false claim that my dismissal was due to the installation of spy devices and other fabricated lies,' he added. Tamimi vowed to file a legal complaint against those who spread 'these false allegations with the intent of defaming and insulting me.' Basra is the only airport currently operating in Iraq, which closed its airspace because of Israel's conflict with Iran. It is permitted to operate flights during daytime hours only.

Reports: Israel kills Nasrallah's aide and Iraqi commander in Tehran
Shafaq News/ Hussein Khalil, a longtime aide to former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran along with a senior Iraqi commander, according to media reports on Saturday. Widely known as 'Abu Ali Khalil,' he had recently relocated from Iraq to Iran prior to the strike. Hezbollah has yet to confirm or deny the assassination. The same strike allegedly killed Haidar al-Moussawi, a senior commander in Iraq's Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada, an Iran-backed faction. A source familiar with the group told Shafaq News that al-Moussawi was in charge of its operations in Syria. Israel has not officially acknowledged the operation. However, it coincides with the ninth straight day of Israeli airstrikes targeting high-value assets inside Iran. In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has continued to launch waves of missiles and drones since June 13.
